I'm Over There

For the time being, I'm over here and blogging away. That's not where I plan to stay very long (but I did say that about my current employment where I've been for 7 years now), but I'm there at the moment. Come on over and say "Hi!"

I Surrender

I give up.

I've spent over 7 hours now in the past 4 days deleting spam. I'm done. Until I find another platform or another way to deal with spam, I'm simply done blogging here (or maybe I'll just post sans comments). It's not worth the time and trouble. When I find another way, I'll post here again. Until then, have fun!

Update: Thanks for all the kind emails of support. Please realize, I'm not completely giving up -- I'm just stopping until I find somewhere to blog where I'm not spending hours a day dealing with spam. It might be here, it might be somewhere else, but I'm not stopping. I just really don't want to change urls, if there's any other options.

Update #2: Hundreds more spam each day, even after manually closing and programatically closing posts. Gah. In the meantime, I'm playing over here.

Welcome to Friday

Well there's been lots of crap in the news this week. There's been lots of religious persecution, advancement of communism at the expense of freedom, and degradation of all that is good. And there's been some good news, too. But today's Friday, and I'm taking a news break.

I meant to post pictures all week about the Carolina Renaissance Festival. I got busy and forgot. So throughout the day today, I'll just be posting pictures and other lighter fare. Forget the news for a day -- I guarantee that when you check back again, you'll find you really didn't miss anything. So check back later here today, and there will be more fun and excitement!

Okay, this is SO what I was going for. My life as a blogger is now complete. Well, I was going for the #1 result, but I'll settle for #4. I'm now the #4 result when searching google for cheat programs dota pimp my peon. I'm so happy.

Oh, but only when using Google in Greek.

Just thought I'd share.

Pajamas Media Goes Mainstream

Pajamas Media, the newest entrant into the mainstream media, is moving into a new venue: Radio.

Mark your calendars because this Thursday, September 27 at 3 pm (PST) on XM Radio, Channel 130, Pajamas Media debuts its weekly radio show on P.O.T.U.S. '08.

Not only do we hope you will take a listen but this is an amazing opportunity for our bloggers to get involved. Contact Ed Driscoll for more info at ed@eddriscoll.com.

P.O.T.U.S. '08 is a new channel launched by XM who is partnering with C-SPAN and other media outlets to offer a 24-Hour, commercial-free channel devoted to the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

The channel will be broadcast free to all XM radio receivers. If you have an XM radio but opt not to subscribe to XM, you can still listen to the presidential election channel. If you don't subscribe to XM, they are offering a free trial where you can listen online.

Just in case you can't already find enough news and information about the presidential election. I wish I had time to monitor and count how many times each candidate is mentioned to determine whether this becomes just another cheerleading squad for the status quo.

FCC Fines for Fake News

This news is rather interesting. The FCC has proposed a fine aginst a network for running a commercial that looks like a news program and forgot to tell people watching it that it was a commercial. That part isn't really news. The interesting part is that this is the first time the FCC has tried to fine a cable network.

I'm wondering -- if the FCC is claiming power to regulate and monitor cable television networks, what else will the claim jurisdiction over? If the data that is transmitted over a television cable line can be directly regulated by the FCC for content, how soon before the FCC claims jurisdiction over the internet and all information transmitted over the internet?

Of course, in the real world, I understand the internet -- I know that the FCC will never be able to actually regulate it. Heck, they can't stop child porn and illegal gambling on the internet now. But if they claim jurisdiction, I know it will be just a matter of time before they start wasting time trying to shut down or fine various internet sites.

Keep in mind this is an organization that YOU, personally, have to pay for, whether you like it or not. Perhaps the FCC is yet another government organization that has outlived it's usefulness. Have you ever noticed that no government programs EVER end, even when they have no purpose any more? Wouldn't it be great to have the option to elect people who would get rid of such programs? If you know of anyone running for election that would actually reduce useless parts of government, let me know. The only person I know of running for election at any level that would actually reduce government is Ron Paul.

Pajamas Media vs. The Mainstream

Many in the blogosphere are buzzing over Edward Driscoll, Jr's article talking about the birth of the objective media. He writes about how the mass media, the mainstream media, lost touch with Americans. It outlines when, where, and how the mainstream media got lost, and how others worked against them -- culminating with the expansion of blogs and internet news. He makes guesses at the future and how even the word "blogs" will become useless, as information continues to move to the internet and allows all voices to be heard.

Of course, any discussion of this type would be incomplete without a mention of "Rathergate" -- and he mentions it as well. He also makes mention of the "pajamas blogger" that got much of this movement moving.

However, at the same time, one of the largest organizations that might be considered "anti-mainstream," Pajamas Media, has made a move in the opposite direction. Pajamas media has recently announced that they apparently don't like that various candidates that they apparently don't agree with are winning their online polls (and not just Ron Paul, either). Therefore, Pajamas Media has decided to only include candidates that have been "approved" by the mainstream media -- they will no longer allow so-called "second tier" candidates in their poll.

I have run this poll on my blog. However, it is no longer there. I realize that I generated just a few votes a week for their poll, but they've joined with the mainstream media in shutting out Republican voices with which I agree. Pajamas Media claims that they're doing this because people "lost interest" in voting in their poll. Well now that their poll is exactly like every other mainstream media poll, I'm not sure how that's going to increase anyone's interest.

Congratulations, Pajamas Media. You have become so big and so successful that it appears that you have now joined the mainstream media that was the reason for your creation.

Where is Ogre?

Ogre's not here. Today, and for the next few days, Ogre is at Graffiti Church in the Lower East side of New York City. Yes, THAT Lower East side.

But don't go away just yet! Today, since I won't be around, a number of editorial cartoons will post throughout the day. Come back and check them out. Some are funny and some are just sad commentary on society.

Ogre's Back

Yay. What a vacation. I had almost zero contact with news or information. I didn't even see algore's internet (which is why I had so much spam). As Angel says, "Ignorance is bliss." I can certainly see why so many people are disconnected from the news and politics. Regular blogging will continue tomorrow (unless I go the way of Daisy Cutter)...

For those who weren't aware, I was traveling up and down the east coast, driving and camping. It was indeed lots of fun. I talked to lots of people about lots of things. A few awards:

Worst roads:
PA without a doubt. Sorry, Oddy, but those roads were really bad. I thought I broke a tire (not a wheel, but a TIRE) on more than one of those damn potholes. NJ used to be bad, but PA really took the cake here. Avoid I-84 and I-81 in PA if you can. Runner-up: NC I-40 west of Statesville.

Worst Traffic:
CT without a doubt. CT simply does not have enough roads. If they'd build a few more lanes, there wouldn't be people driving 20mph on the interstate at all hours of the day. CT is ALWAYS bad. They need to build more lanes, period. Actually the traffic is so bad there ALL hours of the day, that I'm seriously considering driving to NH via Albany, NY just to avoid driving through the parking lot that is CT. Runner-up: no one. Nowhere was traffic this bad.

Dumbest Law:
TN alcohol id. Apparently TN has a new law that requires EVERYONE to show ID when purchasing alcohol. The lunatics that make laws in the state apparently honestly believe that forcing gray-haired old ladies to show id to buy beer will make the world a safer place for everyone. Runner-up: VA and their moronic "safety zones" on the interstate to raise cash for the state.

Best law:
When horseback riding in NC, they had a sign posted that informed riders that if you were killed while riding a horse, you were not able to sue the farm. It really is a sad state of affairs to even think that we need that law, but it sure is a good law to have in place. Runner-up: NH helmet laws. I think I saw 30-40 people riding motorcycles in NH and THREE of them had helmets. That really goes to show that when you let people have freedom, they will exercise that freedom. People really do want to be free.

So I'm back, and I'm trying to get things in order before I head back to work. In the meantime, for those thinking about a run for public office:

Ogre's Not Here!

Camping PictureWell, it's that time again -- time for the Ogre to go off into a cave and ignore the world for awhile. All you people who read blogs and news daily, I strongly suggest that you find time to do the same. What you will find out when you return is that nothing really important happened. Now this year there's a chance that the Senate will pass amnesty while I'm gone. But I've done all I can to stop that nightmare (dozens of faxes and phone calls). So I'm going camping.

Sometimes in the past I've had posts that would appear the two weeks I've been gone, but this year that didn't work out. So basically, you're not going to see anything new here for a couple weeks. I'll be tent camping without electricity -- no phones, computers, internet, or much of anything. Well, I might have to check the email once or twice to quell the urge...

So please accept my thanks for stopping by today and reading this post. And I promise, I'll be back about July 9th or so with more analysis of North Carolina government and reporting on the daily losses of freedom in this once-great country formerly known as the United States of America. And maybe one day, in the far future, we truly will be able to live free.

Oh, and I know it's been awhile since I've seen a comment party anywhere, so you people behave in the comments or I'll be calling on horse-dog Jake to deal with you...

The New Layout

Well, it's here. What do you think?

I've removed much of the advertising that marked this site as spyware, and I removed Sitemeter that's setting 3rd-party cookies. Blogrolling still is incredibly slow to load, but it's still there. I haven't finished with the permalink page, so that layout may change a bit as I fine tune this.

However, the site does work better with FireFox. What you should be seeing at the top, just under the picture, is a line that's updated as the page loads. With FireFox, it counts steps 1-4, then gives you a percentage as the slow blogrolling pages load. However, IE didn't want to do that, instead it kept skipping the last few steps. So, with IE, you get the Steps countdown, but then it shows the link to the Information Booth -- however, the blogrolls may not be completely loaded before you get the link. Oh well.

Feel free to check out the information booth and look around. Let me know if anything looks odd on your screen, please. Oh, and if you're reading this in a RSS feed, you probably won't see any differences. I'm thinking about playing with those settings soon...

A Momentary Delay

For those looking for the latest news, information, and freedom-based commentary about North Carolina and the U.S., sorry for the delay -- I'm in the middle of a slight re-design of the site and want to finish that up. Once that's complete, regular blogging will continue.

Ogre's Not Here

Yes, it's time once again to teach small children to use firearms! Hooray, firearms!

Ogre is off to the North Carolina mountains to teach boys age 7-10 how to shoot guns. And yes, the kids absolutely love it. I know Democrats and their pals absolutely hate it, but they can't stop me (yet). And if I can arm enough of these kids, maybe we'll have more people armed for government resistance when it's needed (sadly when, not if). And I'd be remiss if I didn't include the classic folk tale:

Interviewer: "So, LTG Reinwald, what are you going to do with these young boys on their adventure campout?"

LTG Reinwald: "We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting."

Interviewer: "Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the range."

Interviewer: "Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see how, we will be teaching them proper range discipline before they even touch a firearm."

Interviewer: "But you're equipping them to become violent killers."

LTG Reinwald: "Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?"

End of the interview

Trackback Program?

Does anyone know of a 3rd-party trackback program that works with blogs? I'm looking for something like Haloscan -- because Haloscan hasn't worked in quite a long time and the trackback features of the server I'm currently on doesn't work, either. So is there a haloscan-like solution that isn't Haloscan?

Thanks in advance, if you know of anything...
