The full report, entitled Farm Labor Shortages: How Real? What Response?, is available at http://www.cis.org/articles/2007/back907.html.
Among the findings:
# Production of fruits and vegetables have been increasing. In particular, plantings of very-labor-intensive crops such as cherries and strawberries have grown by more than 20 percent in just five years.
# The average farm worker makes $9.06 an hour, compared to $16.75 for non-farm production workers.
# Real wages for farm workers increased one-half of one percent (.5%) a year on average between 2000 and 2006. If there were a shortage, wages would be rising much more rapidly.
# Farm worker earnings have risen slower in California and Florida (the states with the most fruit and vegetable production) than in the United States as a whole.
# The average household spends only about $1 a day on fresh fruits and vegetables.
# Labor costs comprise only 6 percent of the price consumers pay for fresh produce. Thus, if farm wages were allowed to rise 40 percent, and if all the costs were passed on to consumers, the cost to the average household would be only about $8 a year.
# Mechanization could offset labor higher labor costs. After the “Bracero” Mexican guestworker program ended in the mid-1960s, farm worker wages rose 40 percent, but consumer prices rose relatively little because the mechanization of some crops dramatically increased productivity.
# Labor-saving mechanization can be difficult for one farmer, since packers and processors are usually set up to deal either with hand-picked or machine-picked crops, but not both. Government has a key role to play in facilitating mechanization.

Some American citizens were protesting companies hiring people who are actively breaking the law (illegals). The criminal alien invaders (illegal immigration or "undocumented" workers) proceeded to attack and beat the American Citizens who had not broken any laws. Since the illegals are used to breaking the law, and continue to be rewarded for breaking the law -- they continue to break the law. They're just getting more brazen and breaking more laws.
America used to be a country of laws. It is not today.

I would like to invite each of you to view two screenings of the movie "Border" here in NC that our organization ALIPAC is bringing to the state. We need as many lawmakers, citizen activists, and members of the media to attend as possible.
Many of you may have heard about this movie on CNN, Fox, and CBS or in the New York Times.
This film will be of interest to people that favor enforcement and those that favor amnesty.
The two showing are also being supported by Bill Lumaye of WPTF radio's Bill Lumaye Show and by Jeff Katz of WBT Radio in Charlotte, NC.
You can view a trailer for the film and order advance tickets online at www.BorderMovie.com
I will be speaking briefly at these showings and the film's creator, Chris Burgard, is coming to NC on his national tour with the film and will be glad to answer questions after each showing.
These show times are for 6:30pm EST, but an 8:30 showing will be added if the first sells out. That is why advance tickets are important.
This movie shows you what is really happening at the border in graphic detail. This movie shows you what North Carolina will be dealing with soon. People are planning to come from across the state and from SC and VA to see this film here with us.
Hope to see you there.

So why does the left love Saul Arellano? Someone needs to take this kid aside (it would be social services, if they were even remotely interested in helping, well, anyone other than themselves) and explain to him:
Saul, I'm very sorry to tell you this, but your mom did some bad things. She broke the law. She took things that didn't belong to her. She hid from the police. And she said that she will continue to refuse to obey the law. So she's being punished. As soon as she agrees to stop breaking the law, she will be able to return to you. But as long as she won't obey the law, she's going to be punished.
Because that's the truth. This kid is so much of a pawn it's not funny. He's being taught by the left to hate America. Great job, Democrats.
Keep in mind his mother is very clear: if she doesn't agree with a law, she is simply not going to obey it -- ever. I have no problem with that position at all. In fact, I do that very thing each and every day. But it's shameful to use a child like this to advance your political cause.

Here's an example -- from the Boston "janitor's" union:
Rosalia Minas, 41, said she is barely able to support her two children on her part-time job cleaning a building in the Financial District and had to pick up a second job.
That's what these slimeballs are after -- free cash. So, how much money do you think you should make to raise two children? Is $50,000 a year enough? Maybe we should be safe and call it $75,000. Now this greedy, miserable SOB wants to earn that much PART TIME. So she is honestly asking for $75 AN HOUR to sweep the floor. Seriously, that's what the union is asking for in this case! Gee, how many of you would work for $75 an hour, 20 hours a week, sweeping floors?
Slimy, greedy, miserable bums, the lot of them.
If you want money, how about working and earning it? If your job doesn't pay enough, how about trying to find another job? Gee, don't have the skills to be a brain surgeon? How about going to school? Oh, gee, you have kids to support? Maybe you should have thought about that before you had those kids -- the stork didn't bring them, you know? And by the way, Miss Minas, where's their father? Huh?
Sorry, I have no pity at all for someone who marches in the street to demand more for nothing. Worse, since this is in Massachusetts, I bet the government gives them their raise. Lots more money for doing absolutely nothing -- only government can achieve this feat.
I reiterate -- unions have no purpose today. You want to form one, you go ahead. However, don't try and stop me from crushing them.

Terry Funderburk (the Lone Protester) says:
How is it that the political parties in this great country of ours, which prides itself as a nation of laws forget that they serve at the will of the people? How is it that they can control the system to the extent that they determine that certain of our laws will not be enforced? Who in this country has the authority to exceed the limits of the Constitution? How is it that these same parties can allow America to be invaded by millions upon millions of illegal aliens from other countries, totally against the wishes of a huge majority of Americans and in violation of the Constitution.
How can they allow our great foundations that were established 231 years ago to become so corrupted? How can they rip the Constitution to shreds, tear apart the Declaration of Independence and forget the Bill of Rights? How can they completely destroy everything our country was built upon? How can these two political parties so effectively and completely alter the future of this country and almost destroy the fabric of American society?
How is it that the American people can sit idly by and watch these once great political parties become so corrupt as to ignore the rule of law? Where are our great foundations of justice, the Bill of Rights, our local courts, the Supreme Court, indeed our entire legal system when the American people are in dire need of them? Where are our law enforcement institutions, local, state and federal when the American people need them? They are supposed to be the American citizens' first line of defense and they have been willfully negligent in their assigned responsibilities.
Why has government of all levels abdicated their responsibilities to the citizens of this country? Why does the will of the American people not matter anymore to certain people and parties in this country? How can we as Americans allow certain groups to so control our future that they are well on the way to destroying this once great country?
It is time for change. It is time for we Americans to take back our once great country. It is time we begin to set things right again. It is time for us to repair the damage these people and parties have done to us. It is time for us to rid ourselves of corrupt officials at all levels that totally control the system to the extent that the will of the American people are ignored and our laws are not enforced. It is time for us to hold our law enforcement officials at all levels to the oath that they swore to when they took those positions. To demand of them that they will not ignore certain laws. To demand of them to enforce all laws fairly and equally. Simply enforce our laws under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and every other law in the land.
It is time for a change in this great country. It is time for the American people to start getting angry about the great problems facing us and at the ones who are responsible for it. Angry at the ones whose solutions only erode this country more. It is time for the America people to take our country back. It is time for us to remember all of the great Americans that gave their lives, from the revolution to Iraq and Afghanistan, the ones who gave their everything. It is time to rid ourselves of politicians who have been in office so long that they think they own an inherited position. It is time to rid ourselves of politicians who have forgotten who this country actually belongs to. It belongs to us and we need to take it back. It is time for a change.

So yes, your tax dollars help to pay for the hours of time of the police department in arresting, charging, and taking the man to court for protesting the illegal aliens who were being paid less than the minimum wage. And no, none of the police did anything about the crime being committed by the illegals just a few yards away from where they arrested the horrible man, Terry Funderburk, for "cursing."
As Terry noted -- apparently in today's society, it is a MUCH more severe crime to protest and say a "bad" word than to employ illegals and pay them less than minimum wage (and perhaps even under the table) -- because he's the one in court while the criminal aliens continue to work. Nice selective enforcement, Columbia, SC. At least he didn't do something REALLY dangerous that would send him to jail -- like distribute leaflets!

14 Reasons to Deport Illegal Aliens...
1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year. http://tinyurl.com/zob77
2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html
3. $2.5 Billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html
4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.0.html
5. $17 Billion dollars a year is spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html
6. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html
7. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html
8. $90 Billion Dollars a year is spent on illegal aliens for Welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. http://premium.cnn.com/TRANSCIPTS/0610/29/ldt.01.html
9. $200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html
10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the United States.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html
11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana, crossed into the U. S. from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report: http://tinyurl.com/t9sht
12. The National Policy Institute "estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period."
http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/pdf/deportation.pdf
13. In 2006 illegal aliens sent home $45 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin. http://www.rense.com/general75/niht.htm
14. "The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants In The United States.” http://www.drdsk.com/articleshtml
So using the LOWEST estimates, the annual cost OF ILLEGAL ALIENS is $338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! So if deporting them costs between $206 and $230 BILLION DOLLARS, get rid of em', weÂ’ll be ahead after the 1st year!!!
Please pass this on. And call your representative in Congress...Americans need to wake up!

I'm sure by now most of you have heard the news that the amnesty bill is back and better than ever! What makes it better this time? What makes everything better: MORE MONEY! Yes, the primary selling point of this "new" amnesty bill is that it will spend BILLIONS more in taxpayer cash! Hooray, spending!
This bill once again shows how incredibly disconnected the billionaire's club (that's the US Senate) is from actual people of America. VAST majorities of Americans oppose this amnesty bill. McCain LOVES amnesty, especially when you don't call it amnesty. But these billionaires simply think differently from normal people -- they honestly believe that if they throw billions of dollars at something, then people will like it. After all, how can people not like lots of money? The Senators LOVE money -- especially when it's not theirs and they didn't have to work for it.
Is there any person in America not in the US Senate that actually believes these morons? Seriously. This plan promises to issues Z-Visas to criminals who are "in the shadows" faster than they can issue normal passports to American citizens who have been in the system their entire lives. This amnesty plan promises to enforce the border will billions of dollars when these same idiots can't even build a 700-mile long fence.
It really doesn't matter how much "enforcement" they claim to be putting in this bill: they simply will NOT enforce the border. They won't do it now, so I don't know why one single person would believe them when they claim they're going to do it once they grant amnesty to all the current illegals.
But hey, they're the Billionaire Senate, and they're smarter than everyone else on the planet. We should all, apparently, just shut up and let them spend our money because they is smarter than me. Well, I'm tired of them. I want a country that has international borders. I want a country that actually has some pride in itself. I want a country that is ruled by laws, not men. Unfortunately for me, there's no such place on Earth today. Anyone want to start a country with me?
Update: I'm not the only one who is calling this The Amnesty Zombie!

However, Bush wants them freed because they were illegal alien invaders and they might not have been offered a chance to speak with their Mexican consular after they were arrested. Yes, because these miserable, horrible, evil murderers (convicted in many courts of law) weren't asked, "Gee, Senior, would you like a free pass out of the country?" then Bush is trying to set them free.
Bush actually is supporting Mexico and illegal alien invaders over innocent citizens and children of America.
The state of Texas told Bush what he could do with his demands to set the criminal bastards free. Bush has now gone to the US Supreme Court to attempt to get them to enforce his presidential power. If the court rules against him, I wonder if he'll pardon these evil, deadly criminals. If the court rules for him, I hope the state of Texas tells the Supreme Court where they can stick it.
Either way, Bush is way, way out of line and completely out of control. Well, it is quite often said that "Power Corrupts." No kidding.

I believe we can get it done.
Yes, Bush really believes that he can work with the anti-American Senators on capital hill to force amnesty through the Senate, despite a vast majority of Americans who simply do not want amnesty for illegal alien invaders. Remember, Harry Reid, John McCain, Ted Kennedy (and other Democrats) all are looking forward to cramming amnesty down our throats, whether you want it or not.
I didn't believe the news reports for a minute that claimed this bill was dead for the year. This bill isn't dead until the Senators leave Washington for the year.
Why am I so opposed to the bill? Because I like America the way it is. I like the unique American culture -- what's left of it -- and I think it should be preserved. I think we have too many people in this country now that don't know anything about the America culture, nor do they want to know about it. This continued influx of illegals is nothing but bad news for the country that used to be known as America.
As I've mentioned, I think America is dead -- at least the unique country that was founded upon freedom and hard work. This amnesty bill is just the last nail in the coffin. If that last nail can be kept out, there's at least a tiny glimmer of hope for America. Unfortunately, I still believe the bill is a done deal, it's only a matter of when.
