Christmas Thief
What sort of juvenile delinquent steals Christmas decorations when you're away visiting relatives?
Oh, I'm sorry, was that PC? Will the thought police arrest me for saying "Juvenile Delinquent?" Should I have said, "Morally challenged?" No, I guess I can't say that -- that would imply moral judgment, which isn't allowed either. How about miserable S.O.B.? I guess that wouldn't be okay, either, because I have no right to determine someone else is miserable, and SOB, although accurate, simply cannot be said.
Of course, I shouldn't be surprised -- they're only putting into practice what they're learning in the government-run schools -- there is no right or wrong. Stealing is okay if you're stealing from someone who has more than you. Schools cannot teach that stealing is wrong -- that would be forcing religious beliefs on others.
Sorry, I'm sticking with miserable S.O.B. -- and I'll tell that to the damn thieves who did it.

such a sad testomony to today's society. I have always thought (since at one time I was a juvenile detective) that if Dad especially Dad had to sit in the cell with the brat that things would change. I have met more men that were quick to defend their offspring than mums.
Dads are quick to say boys will be boys. Well if your ass sat beside your brat for a week or two no bail. Boys might have manners and morals.

Lack of visits
I'd like to take just a moment to apologize for the lack of visits to other fine blogs by Ogre. Normally, I have a rather large list of blogs that I visit daily because
I have no life they're fun and interesting to read. One day (maybe tomorrow) I'll get that blogroll code on the right more organized to reflect the ones I read.
However, in the meantime, while all you suckers good subjects citizens gender-neutral people are working hard this week, Ogre's been away in Florida, ignoring the news, politics, and pretty much everything. Don't be jealous -- he worked for many years "up the ladder" to earn this position and vacation time.
He'll be back this evening to attempt to catch up on email and blog stuff. Starting next week, regular visits to everywhere else in the blogosphere should start back up, but perhaps with a more limited schedule, as punishment a reward for taking this time off, the workload will be slightly higher, meaning less time for playing.

More Fines for NC
This time, the North Carolina government wants more money (what else is new?) In
this case, legislators who are afraid to be identified from North Carolina are working with Virginia legislators to fine anyone who DARES to cross the state line between the two states.
They hope to steal raise $100 million for each state by adding a $5 fee for crossing the state line (much more for commercial trucks -- and keep in mind that if the trucks have to pay $20 for crossing the state line, that cost WILL be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices).
What will they use the money for? Whatever they want. The North Carolina legislature is famous for taking money raised for roads and using it for any other projects they want -- they regularly steal from the highway "trust" fund to put money in the general fund.
So, how much money does it take to run government today? More. Always more.

Education Money Myth
Yet still the myth continues. There are still some groups that simply live and die spreading the myth that money = education. Sorry, but that's a complete lie, only designed to get more cash out of the taxpayers hands and into government. Of course, "It's for the Children."
Another lie-filled "advocacy" group has announced an astounding fact -- that poor counties in North Carolina are spending less money than rich counties on education. Their solution? Of course, to steal more money from productive citizens and give it to the "poor" counties.
MONEY DOES NOT EQUAL EDUCATION. It never has, and it never, ever will. There are ZERO studies that even suggest that any amount of increase of $1 or $1000 has ANY effect at all on education. None. Zero.
Increasing funding for education does have ONE effect: it steals money from the economy so that hard-working people get less for their work. It violates the North Carolina Constitution that says, "We hold it to be self-evident that all persons are ... endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, the enjoyment of the fruits of their own labor."
All government spending on education should be reduced to zero. EVERYONE will benefit tremendously -- well, except for the bureaucrats and "advocacy" groups.

I don't think you are entirely correct.
For example, would soldiers learn their skills if we zeroed out the military budget? Surely SOME money is necessary for operations...although more money does not guarantee squat.
I'm also reminded of America's history regarding education. In Massachusetts, for example, educational facilities were established from the gitgo. In South Carolina, only the white and well-heeled received a proper education. Consequently, there were more educated folks in Mass, and less in SC...although the few in SC may have received a better education than their northern counterparts. Maybe not though.
Everyone should be given tools and access, and ideally everyone could, one day, be given a first class education, even if it meant watching college courses on their TV or computer.
America needs more education, not less. We are ignorant enough, and crime is only getting worse.
Think different and better, not removal.
The current admin has squandered and squandered, and now want to cut important services to make up for their wrongheadedness.
If they simply gave back all they stole and diverted, we wouldn't have to even talk about cuts to programs.
Hi there!

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Stop spending money on education? Are you mental?
You seem to have some sort of issue surrounding class and social strata as you mention "stealing" money from "productive" citizens and giving it to the poor..whoa horsey! That's what the income tax system is all about...everyone pays tax, it goes into a central fund and is then drawn back out for schools, hospitals, roads etc. That's the way it works, it's not about stealing.
Are you seriously suggesting reducing Government spending on education to zero? Where would the money for schools come from then? Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly but that's what I think you're saying. I have to say that's the most absurd thing I've ever heard, seriously, ever!
And as for your point that there have been no studies to show that spending money has any effect on education...that's nonsense! It doesn't take a report or a study or a rocket scientist to work out that if you have a school in a disadvantaged area where there is one teacher to 40 students and then a school in an affluent area that has one teacher for every 15 students that the pupils in the more affluent school are going to, in the main, have more opportunities educationally. Here in Ireland, there was a study done on one particular poorer suburb of Dublin and it showed that only three per cent of it's students went on to third level or college education compared to a more affluent suburb in Dublin where about 60 per cent of its students went on to college. That sure says something to me! (The study was done some years ago and I'm not sure if it's online so can't provide a link but I'll try to find something)
Investing money in education is the ONLY way forward for all countries. The more educated our people, ALL of our people, are the better our lives and our world will be. Apathy towards education is what is destroying our communities. As the last poster said, we need more investment in education, not less!

There is so much waste in the public education system that the details defy description.
One step to improving education is to see that children achieve the proper level of proficiency in reading. And the proven way to do this is through a coordinated series of basal readers. But the textbook lobbyists see to that the readers are republished every few years so that more money has to be shelled out--taxpayers' dollars, of course. Add to that the fact that many counties don't see to it that all the schools within any given system use the
same series of basal readers.
Furthermore, the stats are homeschoolers put to shame the proficiency levels of the public school system. And why is that? Effective homeschool parents grab ahold of a curriculum from a particular publisher and stick with it. The public system could take a lesson from that practice.
Remember the days of the
McGuffey Readers? Some of the greatest intellects of the previous century learned from those simple books.
Get rid of the bells and whistles, and kids will learn.

Thanks for all the comments, folks!
Anonymoses -- Would soldiers learn their skills with no budget? You betcha, without ANY doubt.
As for comparing today's society to that of 400 years ago, I don't think you can. Today, EVERYONE in America, including illegals, felons, criminals, and the so-called "poor" ALL have the opportunity for education, without any exception at all.
Government has very few and limited purposes. Anything else it attempts, it does wrong. Education is NOT government's business. They are complete and utter failures at it.
Kaz -- nope. I'm not mental at all. Government should not spend one dollar on education. Do you really think for even one second that there would be no education without government? Seriously? Imagine what would happen if ALL government-run education shut down tomorrow -- it would be awesome. No less people would be educated. In fact, I think MORE would be educated, and without any doubt, the quality of education would skyrocket.
As for your example on spending, in fact your illustration is not actually true. Have 15 students for 1 teacher versus 40 students for one teacher has absolutely no effect on the education. Being raised in a so-called "poor" neighborhood has MUCH more effect than on the money spent on the education.
And yes, Smokey, you're right on my thinking. Government stinks at educating people. The free market works infinitely better and always will.
You bet, AoW. "Dick and Jane" taught millions to read. Why can't we use it now? Because the government monopoly will not let people. Follow the insane amounts of money, people, follow the money.

I think the Federal Government should stay out of education because it is unconsitutional to have the Federal Governement run state programs. However, education creates more productive working citzens. What would happen Ogre if no one was required to learn history or civics?

What would happen? People would learn it anyway. Do you really think that no one would learn history? How many people do you know that would be willing to teach what they know to others?
I'm not saying there should be no organized education -- just that the government shouldn't be doing it.

Prohibition Continues in NC
In case you were wondering about the status of prohibition, just check North Carolina. A North Carolina appeals court
recently ruled that a person riding a scooter or a skateboard can be arrested and have their driver's license revoked if they have an improper blood alcohol content.
Never mind the fact that no driver's license is required to ride a skateboard, you can still be jailed for having a drink and getting on a skateboard. And don't worry about the fact that riding a skateboard drunk really isn't putting anyone else in any more danger than walking drunk. And forget about the idea that 0.08 BAC is a completely arbitrary number that has NOTHING to do with the actual risk of getting in an accident.
Thanks to the morons at organizations like M.A.D.D. (Morons Against Drinking or Drinking), the 0.08 BAC has no meaning, other than to interfere with anyone drinking any alcohol at all. There is no logical reason to jail someone for riding on a skateboard with a 0.09 BAC. NONE.
There is NO reason to take a driver's license from someone who has a BAC of 0.09 who rides a scooter. ZERO. This is government completely out of control. The only possible conclusion that can be drawn is that you should not leave your house if you have an alcoholic drink -- or you might end up in jail in NC.

Some years ago, REASON magazine conducted an interview with a neo-prohibitionist of national stature, and the interviewer asked, "Just how high would you like the minimum legal drinking age to be set?"
The prohibitionist wouldn't give a direct answer, so the interviewer approached from a different angle: "I understand from other sources that you would back a national minimum drinking age of 25. Is there any truth to that?"
The prohibitionist shook her head and said, "No, none at all. We don't have the votes in Congress for anything like that."
Verbum sat sapienti.

Lottery Shell Game
Ah yes, the lottery topic again. As you may or may not know, North Carolina is trying very hard to join the state-sponsored gambling monopoly. As with just about every other state-sponsored gambling monopoly created, it is being sold as "for the children." We are told over and over again that the money will only be used for education, and that the "new" money will not replace current expenditures.
If you believe that, I've got a great deal on some oceanfront property in Montana for you.
South Carolina is already bemoaning the "loss" of education funding that will happen when North Carolina's gambling enterprise starts up. If all the lottery money is "extra" money to be spent on education, why the problems?
Because SC, like every other government that's addicted to gambling programs, cannot stand ANY decrease in any spending program, EVER. That's why they are already talking about the SC legislature having to increase funding to education to make up for the "shortfall" that's going to happen when NC residents stop playing the SC lottery.
But it's for the children, so just give the state the money you earn and shut up.

Easley Raises Gas Tax
In case you were wondering North Carolina Governor Mike Easley's position on rising gas taxes, he completely supports them. On January 1, because of the prices after Katrina, the gas tax in North Carolina will increase by 10%.
This is because the Democrat NC Legislature put into effect a law that automatically raises the gas tax whenever the wholesale cost of gas increases. This also affects home heating oil. The gas tax is now 27.1 cents per gallon -- the highest in the Southeast.
Some legislators from western North Carolina asked Governor Easley for a break for low-income people and citizens in general on this tax increase. Easley told them to talk a long walk off a short pier.
The governor's spokesman gave a typical government answer -- it would provide little savings to people and "cost" The all-powerful State a lot. Strangely enough, the Democrats who are publicly asking for the break are mostly Democrats.
I strongly suspect they knew that this would go nowhere, so they were safe in asking for it. If they honestly wanted to reduce taxes, the NC Democrats would throw them out of the party.

Factually Challenged Journalists
In case you're wondering what point of view is being taught in places of "higher learning," things like this pass as factual information:
There is no question that the world is warming at an unprecedented rate, due largely to the burning of fossil fuels.
Actually,
Kim Curtis, that idea is quite in question. There is little data and a large number of scientists that do question the idea that fossil fuels are responsible for global warming, and a large number that question that global warming is even occurring.
But, Ms. Curtis teaches political science at Duke University. Keep that in mind next time you hear from a candidate who attended Duke with a poly sci major -- they're being taught that ideas are facts. Who knows what other agenda-driven political lies are being passed off as facts?

Unfortunately this is not just limited to PolySci. Journalists with similar ideas quote each other, politicians feel like if they say things enough people will believe them, marketing specialists think they can claim anything and it is true.
I have found profound truth in what one of my mentors said, "Perception is reality, the truth is only the truth."
Best wishes for a great New Year!

Smokey, Smokey...stop trying to ruin their agenda with facts. When facts don't fit, they are simply ignored in favor of the agenda. It's for the children, you know.
And good point, David -- the truth IS the truth, but SO many people are completely willing to ignore it.

Another Socialist for NC
Another socialist has decided that he wants to represent the people of North Carolina in the NC Legislature (as if there's not already enough socialists there). Ronnie Griffin
has announced that he wants the district 11 seat from Republican Louis Pate.
This alleged Democrat is once again claiming that he is qualified for the legislature because he has military experience. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing but tremendous respect for military people -- especially someone who reached the rank of Brigadier General! But that doesn't automatically make one a good politician.
Mr. Griffin does not want to reduce spending anywhere. He does not want to cut taxes. He wants to increase spending to schools via the lottery. He wants 100% socialized medicine, paid for by everyone else in the state except those who will benefit from it, including mental health.
Of course he got the endorsement of the Lt. Governor -- another Democrat -- because he's right on the Democrat platform -- more government, more spending. If he's elected, I'm sure he'll join them completely and will vote to raise taxes to pay for his extra spending, even if he won't admit it now.

Yes, of course. And I am qualified to be an obstetrician because I've given birth!

Merry Christmas!

4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Christmas Eve

1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

Happy Christmas Eve Day!
It's Christmas Eve Day -- so I'm not sure who's out there reading blogs and who is actually doing stuff. I hope you're not shopping -- I just can't imagine that. Of course, it's neat to watch because I just laugh when I look at the stores this week and the Democrats complain about the economy...
This is also a weird day because it's football Saturday (NFL). I'm a big Dolphins fan, and I'm glad to see that the Dolphins are playing today and not tomorrow -- I really don't get who actually watches sports on Christmas Day. I know there's usually NBA games on Christmas, but I don't know that I've ever turned a TV on Christmas Day.
So hopefully you're having a good day and have lots of good plans with family for the Christmas holiday. I know various families have problems with holiday gatherings -- I hope this year your problems are non-existent!

No Economic Freedom in NC
North Carolina is 100% run by Democrats. They have a majority in both state houses -- the NC Senate has NEVER had a Republican majority. The Democrats also hold the governorship. With that tandem, they are free to ignore the judicial branch, and often do.
The North Carolina state banking commissioner recently decided that you are not free to pay people money if you want to. That's correct, if I WANT to give you money, the state has decided that I should not be free to do so.
This ruling has to do with "excessive rates" charged by companies doing business freely with consumers. Specifically, this "ruling" (how is it unelected officials can make rulings that put companies out of business?) has to do with "payday lending."
Now why is it that I am prevented from giving you money voluntarily. This sort of ruling only protects those it is designed to protect -- those who the Democrat Legislature want to protect, because they are paid to protect them -- Big Banking.

I am confused by this poste
You say. "That's correct, if I WANT to give you money, the state has decided that I should not be free to do so."
But from the article you link to, it just means you can't charge me more than 36% interest. But if you are charging me interest, how are you 'giving' me money?
Did I misunderstand the ruling?

Gerald -- if I want to give you $100 tomorrow in return for you giving me $50 today, I cannot. The state has determined that I should not be free to make that decision.

Alleged meme Tag
Contagion seems to have attempted to
tag me with a meme.
However, according to the absolutely official meme rules, it is simply not permitted to tag people when they're not home. Therefore, Contagion's tag is hereby officially certified as null and void. Sorry Contagion, better luck next time.

Ah, nice try!
But duplicate tags, once an initial tag has been nullified, are not permitted, either -- it's similar to the double jeopardy clause in the Constitution.

Oh, this has got nothing to do with Christmas -- this is all about following the rules. They're posted, after all, so we might as well follow them.
Posted by: Ogre at December 23, 2005 09:04 PM (s2+Ck)

Having viewed the "rules", and being a proclaimed rules lawyer by many individuals, I must say that the findings are that it was a valid tag. The "rules" that you have cited have no legal presidence, nor do they hold any validity. The "rules" in question where neither voted on, nor ratified by either a congress nor senate of bloggers. Thus the rules have no legal or actual implication. One can not simply make up rules and cite them as valid. If that was the case I will site the "rule" derived from the Lee Ann book of blogging. "MeMes must be responded to with in 1 month of being tagged, as long as the individual has received proper notification and due time to respond to said request." This rule does not state that you have to be present for it. Then again if you want to make up rules. My rule says, "If Contagion tags Ogre with a meme, he better get off his green butt and respond or Contagion will sign him up for the Al Franken and Hillary Clinton fan clubs."
thank you for your consideration.

Ah, so we have devolved to the threats already. Don't make me call the Dome police on you...
The rules are in place, having already been voted upon and accepted, having won a unanimous vote of the entire committee (of Ogre). You may make up other rules, but since all those have been made up AFTER the institution of these rules, they are, by rule, inferior to these aforementioned rules.
