1 Muslims are fighting for their homeland. Christians are fighting on foreign soil. If Christians would just return to their own homeland perhaps Muslims would be very happy and content in their homeland (which has been occupied by foreign owners throughout history of humans on Earth). You know, security was very good when Saddam and the NAZI's held power. Is that your vision for a "safe and secure" (peaceful) Iraq?

3 Well, have we annexed Iraq as the 51st state? I didn't realize it's even debatable who is the occupying force and who are the local soldiers who live where the fighting is taking place. Sort of like the American revolutionary war -- King George's super-power military forces were, unfortunately, fighting on foreign soil (after we declared our independence). Well, yes, Muslims are killing other Muslims. If you have read Eric Hoffer's book, "The True Believer", then you know that religious beliefs are much more powerful than political beliefs. I read the predicament you described of a Pakistani Christian condemned to death by Muslims, but you pointed out that Pakistan is an "allay" of the U.S., so it's a little hypocritical to give them billions of dollars in military aid and then turn around and criticize them for the actions of a tiny few Pakistanis who disregard (or are ignorant of) American values. I don't know of many cases of Muslims killing Christians (yet) but I do know that Intelligence agencies have reported rapid growth of international "Al-Queda" affiliates motivated to take action against the U.S. based on U.S. atrocities committed in Iraq. Their position is that the Occupation of Iraq is the single best recruiting tool for anti-American militancy worldwide, which tells me that the U.S. military presence in Iraq is doing more harm than good for the safety and security of U.S. citizens. Only a handful of U.S. citizen-jerks thought they were doing their patriotic duty to kill Muslim-looking Americans in the very first weeks after September 11. Oddly, they were charged as criminals and convicted of murder in regular U.S. courts of law. Ironically, they killed innocent peace-loving Seeks(?) from India, not militant Sunni or Shia Muslims. Isn't it funny how all dark-skinned "rag-heads" look the same to many Americans who are so White/Christian supremists and so very, very ignorant of other cultures outside the U.S.? However, I certainly agree that there has not been widespread killing of Muslims by Christians since 9/11 (except for the killing fields in Iraq, of course). Anyway, I do believe that the U.S. simply does not have enough military power to sustain military control in every Muslim country in the world, anymore than King George could send enough RedCoats to our 13 colonies to keep us from gaining our independence from foreign domination. How many armed soldiers would it take to convert you from a conservative Christian Republican to a liberal secular Democrat? I suspect that further military action in Iraq is never going to win the hearts and minds of Kurds, Sunnis, and Shias to abandon their core religious beliefs and adopt neo-con goals of multinational corporate control of their society.

4 Wow. You really think there's any similarity between the American Revolution and Iraq today? I'm beyond words. I'm not sure there's a single thing that's the same. Do you really believe that if Americans left today that all the killing would stop? Worse, you're also not aware of Muslims killing Christians? Again, wow. In Muslim countries, simply being Christian is a crime. People are jailed and beaten daily in places like Egypt and Saudia Arabia -- for being Christian.

5 The killing will not stop when U.S. military leaves Iraq, even if the occupation continues until the U.S. is bankrupt and can't get anymore foreign money to pay for its extraordinary costs. But it hardly could be any worse than what is already happening today. 124 civilians killed just yesterday even with the "protection" of 190,000 U.S. troops and 100,000 private mercenary soldiers from BlackwaterUSA and other war profiteers. The United States of America is not Egypt or Saudi Arabia. We are supposed to be setting a good example for others to see that people CAN govern themselves without resorting to violence. At least I thought so ... perhaps you think I'm all wrong about that, too.

Like Checkoslovakia divided into the Check Republic and Slovakia ... Yugoslavia divided into Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia ... the different ethnic/religious groups could never live together but peacefully co-existed after they became separate countries. There never was a country called "Iraq" until Winston Churchill carved up a map in 1922 ... before that "Iraq" was three separate states in the Ottoman Empire -- Kurdistan in the north, Sunnis in the middle territory and Shiites in the South. This is sometimes called the "3-state solution" for the Iraq mess. I think it just might work! But it will never get a chance to bring peace to the people in Iraq as long as the Bush administration keeps trying to force different ethnic/religious groups to live in a country with a history like Iraq's: For 80 years the 20% Sunni minority ruled the 80% Shiite minority -- the Shiites now have majority control and don't want to share any power -- the Sunnis had control and want it back -- and the Kurds have always wanted their own state (like Israel), and they had de-facto local control under Saddam Hussein (the Kurdish militia whipped Saddam's army) -- so the Kurds don't want to be a part of Iraq, either. So, if the U.S. troops would leave Iraq, the Iraqis will sort things out themselves, probably much quicker than they would with military force used to support a puppet government of the U.S. (in their eyes). I don't think peace will happen immediately, but it would happen sooner if U.S. troops would let them govern themselves. It worked in those other countries who divided after the Soviet Union ended.

8 I like the 3-state solution, but have heard reasons it won't work. I think it's completely false to suggest that if Christians left that Muslims would stop killing -- one another and Christians. I think if the US up and leaves now, violence will increase dramatically.

9 I'm happy to hear you like the 3-state solution; it does make a lot of sense. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are another example of tiny countries who live next to each other in peace and harmony. The only reason Col. Gary Anderson USMC gave against the 3-state solution was that Turkey would attack Kurdistan. That sounds like a weak argument to me. Doesn't the U.S. have big influence on our ally Turkey? And since when does Turkey decide U.S. foreign policy, especially in a matter as important as war? You know we have laws against murder, not to mention the Ten Commandments, yet it still happens. To say Muslims will keep on killing, therefore the U.S. must keep troops there forever doesn't make sense to me. Check the murder rate in the U.S. and you'll find much Christian-on-Christian violence. That doesn't justify a military police state in the U.S. in my opinion. What if England sent 190,000 troops to Mannassas? Do you think the presence of foreign troops would have prevented the American Civil war? The civil war may eventually have become unnecessary by economic factors or political reconciliation, but I certainly don't believe foreign military power would have done anything to resolve differences between North and South in 1861 America. One thing Col. Anderson did say was that he believes the after-fighting would be more like the civil war in Lebanon, not like the ethnic cleansing in Bosnia. That, to me, means there would probably be less fighting after U.S. troop withdrawal than everybody talks about. (That is, I believe political differences are less lethal than religious/ethnic hatred.) One thing's for sure: unless Congress reauthorizes a military draft the U.S. won't have enough troops to continue the unpopular occupation of Iraq -- and then we will find out how Iraqis settle things themselves using their own blood and treasure.

10 Oh, I forgot to mention the 200,000 weapons the U.S. military can't account for in Iraq. Likely that half (or more) of them are being used by insurgents. This is more than just incompetence -- this looks more like Bush-Cheney-Rumsfield have been supplying BOTH sides in Iraq, just to promote their own political agenda here in the USA. Just one more example why I disagree with you -- I believe violence will trend down, not immediately, but soon after U.S. military forces leave Iraq.

12 There were no car bombings in Iraq before the 2003 invasion. Police states are bad news, but if all you want is no violent resistance, then Saddam Hussein's secret police did an excellent job of preventing ethnic violence in Iraq, much like Tito kept Yugoslavia together during his communist dictatorship rule. We all know about Saddam gassing his own people (in Kurdistan) but the media fails to mention that the U.S. supplied him with biological weapons to fight Iran. The U.S. also gave Saddam targeting info inside Kurdistan from U.S. spy satellites -- and that is another case of violence which may not have happened without U.S. military assistance. Back in the 80's there were photos of President Bush (H.W.) and Rummy shaking hands with Saddam -- back when the U.S. supported Iraq in its war with Iran. Yes, the fighting does go back for centuries -- way back to Biblical times -- was it Abraham who was asked to kill a son? I think he lived in a town which now would be in Iraq. But the major trouble started in 1922 when Great Britain installed a Sunni King (from Saudi Arabia) to rule a country which is 80% Shia. England and France did what they felt was best for _their_ interests -- without much consideration or even understanding of the people who live in Mesopotamia (now Iraq). It seems like the West has ruled the Middle East with a "Might make Right" attitude (and ignorance or arrogance) regarding what would be best for Iraqis. Even General Jay Garner, the first guy in charge after Saddam was taken out -- Gen. Garner called for Iraq elections within 6 months -- and maybe Iraqis would have peacefully set up their own institutions, but Gardner was replaced by Paul Bremer who ruled Iraq like a dictator and Iraqis then started worrying that the U.S. would become an occupying force -- a bad thing for Iraq, not a good thing for their country. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3239166.stm Oh, I din't mean to imply that the presence of guns created the violence, it just helped very much to make it possible. When Paul Bremmer(?) issued a decree disbanding the Iragi army he immediately created an armed force of 500,000 soldiers ready to become insurgents. In Iraq, soldiers keept their weapons at home, not on their military base. But that was back in 2003 and it used weapons issued by the Iraqi government. The 200,000 missing weapons reported yesterday by the GAO were distributed by the U.S. where there should be no excuse for not keeping track of who has them and where they are located. The missing weapons are just an example of the Bush administration not paying attention to important things that put American lives at risk in Iraq. I believe continuing that occupation is diverting efforts away from fighting genuine threats posed by new Al Queda like organizations world-wide. Those have increased dramatically since Bush invaded Iraq, according to the National Intelligence Estimate. 13 You sound like you want peace at any cost -- are you one of those who actually thinks Iraq was better off under Saddam? I don't if I agree that the al-queda threats are greater now. There's been nothing like the twin towers attack since, well, 9-11. Are they working hard to attack again? Absolutely. Will they stop if America withdraws? Not one bit. I am of the opinion that they will focus on Iraq until they take power again and have a religious dictatorship again -- then they'll work harder at killing Americans.

NC Democrats Punish Poor

Democrats in North Carolina have completed their sweep this year in punishing those who produce in North Carolina -- HARD. They raised the sales tax across the state. They authorized counties to raise the sales tax even more -- so many counties across North Carolina can now look forward to a whopping seven percent sales tax. In addition, they approved the tax on moving -- up to 0.6% of a home's price (for this week, look for increases soon). So now if you want to move anywhere in the state, it's likely that you'll pay that tax as punishment for moving.

Whenever the government taxes an activity, there will be less of that activity. And when the taxes apply to all, the poor are always the hardest hit. Now the poor people will have a harder time buying, well, anything because everything now costs MORE because the sales tax applies to everyone. In addition, the new tax on moving will make it more difficult for people to move. Those who are having trouble making their house payments will now have a harder time resolving those problems.

Nicely done, Democrats. Make it more expensive for people to live in North Carolina AND make it harder for them to move away. Tell me again how Democrats "support the poor?" Quick, before the taxes go into effect, I suggest moving to New Hampshire: no sales tax, no state income tax.

Judge to People: Bite Me

Once again, the men in black robes have decided that the people are too stupid to have a government themselves. An unelected political appointee has once again declared: "You people are stupid. You're not smart enough to make your own laws. Instead, I, in my supreme glory, will tell you what you should do and what you should not do. Oh, and that silly 'Constitution' thing? That will apply and mean what I say it does, when I say it does, and at no other time."

What a schmuck. Judge Munley says that it's "unconstitutional" that the people have a law against, well, breaking the law. He basically claimed that "residents" have all the rights and protections of all people -- even if the residents are breaking the law. He ruled that if a business would suffer "irreparable harm" by NOT breaking the law, then they should be allowed TO break the law. Seriously, he ruled that.

In other words, let's say I set up a legal business, for example, selling blocks. If the majority of my income from selling blocks comes from people who rob banks, and I would go out of business if robbing banks was illegal; then according to this judge, robbing banks should not be illegal. That's what this maroon actually said:

U.S. District Judge James Munley ruled that landlords, tenants and businesses that cater to Hispanics faced Â“irreparable harmÂ” from the laws and issued a temporary restraining order blocking their enforcement

Once again, the message from the judge is clear: "Shut up you peons. I love illegals, and I'm supporting them no matter what you want." I say again: America is no more.

1 Ogre, 1. always double check anything fox news writes, sadly, they censor a lot. The reasons the law was over turned, in part was: only the Federal goverment has the power to impose immigration laws; it violates due process as it is pre-emptive by federal laws, and it creates discrimination based on race (this is against the law) that would incude legal lantinos. he biggest single reason is that Federal Law is supreme over State and local laws. While many of us want better immigration control, we are bound to do it within the laws of our country. No exceptions, even when it hurts us. I hope this helps with your undrstanding of hte decision.

4 Feel free to show me in the Constitution where it says that only the federal government can MAKE immigration laws. It's not there. Instead, the states HAVE the right, under the Constitution, to make any laws they want (as long as they don't conflict with the Constitution). This judge is very clearly and openly telling the states, "No, you CANNOT make laws that I, personally, don't like." Second, quit with the total, complete BULLS--- about race. This has NOTHING to do with race. It has to do with ACTIONS. When someone breaks the law, it makes NO difference what color they are. If a law disproportionately affects those of a certain skin color, tell those people to CHANGE THEIR ACTIONS. Total horse crap, claiming this is racist. That's wrong and intentionally inflammatory. I've heard about "Men in Black" -- I don't think I want to read it because it will just piss me off even more than I already am. And yes, Wuptdo, if you were born in America and work today you are scum. Your job is to keep working to pay for others. If you're a white Christian male, you have less rights than everyone else. If you happen to point that out, you're a racist and may end up in jail.

8 I have great respect and admiration for Mexicans to have had the savvy political instincts to choose for themselves to be born in Mexico because Al-Queda would never attack another poor country which has never exploited Arabs' natural resources (namely, oil). You and I, on the other hand, made a tremendous effort to be born in America and, as a consequence, we are now potential victims of Al-Queda car bombs blowing up people in the U.S.A. You don't think Al-Queda will start car-bombing in Mexico, do you? I mean, Mexican soldiers aren't killing innocent un-armed citizens in Iraq, are they?

Voters to NOT pay for free sex!

I wonder how many crap spams I'll get off that title.

I'm not trying to get spam, I'm trying to write the headline more accurately. When you read, "College Students Forced to Pay More," you might think that some price increase has happened that effects college students in a bad way. However, while that is clearly the intent of that headline, it's very (intentionally) misleading!

My headline is much more accurate.

You see, the college students aren't forced to do anything. In this case, they are buying something because they WANT to. There's ZERO health risks of any sort if they don't buy it. So to say they're forced is simply wrong. And then let's look at why they're paying more for this optional thing that they are buying because they WANT to:

Up until now, you and I have been paying the vast majority of the cost for this item. The "poor" college student is just paying a small amount because the government, with our tax dollars, is helping them to pay for this optional item that they want (and do NOT need). So they're going to have to pay more because you and I are not paying as much for this item that we're not getting any benefit from. To say that they're paying more is, again, intentionally deceptive.

And what is this item that they are so upset about paying more for? Why it's birth control! Yes folks, you and I, through the government, have been paying piles of cash to college students so they can have free, irresponsible sex! With our tax money, we've been paying so that women at colleges can have birth control so they can have sex at will without the "worry" about getting pregnant. Don't you love government use of money? Heck, without government, people who have sex might get pregnant! And we simply cannot have people actually be held responsible for their actions, can we?

So until now, the taxpayer has been paying enormous piles of money to ensure that college students can have worry-free sex. After this change, we're simply paying less. We're still letting them have their sex without a purpose, we're just asking them to actually pay for the free sex.

Now read that original headline again and tell me there wasn't an agenda at work there.

NC to Reduce Presidential Influence

North Carolina is preparing to ensure that presidential candidates no longer visit or care about the state -- the country's 8th largest (population-wise). How? By getting rid of the winner take all electoral college system that has been in place for hundreds of years. Why? One reason and one reason alone: because Democrats are tired of losing.

You see, in North Carolina Democrats retain control of government (and have for over 100 years) by gerrymandering. They continue to place Republicans in large districts and Democrats in small districts to ensure they will always have a majority. In fact, the primary reason that Jim Black, former Speaker of the House (Democrat) is going to federal prison for 5 years is because he openly broke the law to ensure Democrats would retain control.

Despite the gerrymandering, the Democrats have absolutely been unable to win the presidential election in 27 years. Seriously. For the last 27 years, the people of North Carolina have desired, and voted for, the Republican candidate for president. That has given as many as 15 electoral votes to the Republican candidate. Democrats in North Carolina are sick and tired of people getting to pick who they want to vote for -- so they're changing the rules.

With this move, Democrats will greatly reduce North Carolina's influence in presidential elections. North Carolina will suddenly have the power of Alaska, Delaware, and North Dakota. Do you think presidential candidates campaign in or care about those states AT ALL? That's what North Carolina will become -- because under this new law, already approved by Democrats in the Senate, any given area of the state will only be worth 3 presidential electoral college votes. And one of those votes will be pre-determined. Here's how it works:

The Democrats gerrymander the Congressional districts. There is ZERO competition in ANY federal Congressional district at all. EVERY single one of those districts is drawn specifically for one political party -- the other party has absolutely no chance of getting elected in that district. Therefore, ALL those electoral college votes will be pre-determined -- there will be no point in even holding those elections because I can easily predict right now, with 100% certainty, how all those districts will vote for president. That takes care of 13 of the electoral college votes. The remaining TWO will be determined by statewide choice. In other words, the Democrats are specifically taking votes away from the people.

Of course Democrats openly lie here, claiming that this will increase voter participation. That's lying. Even MORE votes will be predetermined (which is exactly what the Democrats want), giving people LESS of a reason to vote. This is the Democrat Party machine at work in North Carolina: ensuring that voting matters less and less so they can retain power in perpetuity -- no matter what.

This bill will likely pass. And Democracy in North Carolina will be greatly reduced -- which, again, is exactly what Democrats in North Carolina want.

5 Oh, my point is that military force doesn't scale very well at all. China is buying influence in resource-rich Africa for pennies on the dollar compared with the blood and treasure that the U.S. is spending in Iraq. China is winning friends and peaceful security while the U.S. is gaining enemies worldwide.

6 I wouldn't go so far as to say that China is winning friends. Sure, they might be BUYING friends -- because if they tried to use military force against a country, the UN might complain. But again, the US is only there now because they want us there. The only people who enemies of the US were enemies of the US long before US troops set foot in the Gulf (back in the first Gulf war).

7 Ohmygosh! Set me up as Prime Minister of Iraq and give me a comfy, well-protected life of luxury inside the Green Zone and even I might want all the U.S. troops Bush would send to protect me & my cronies. I'd invite you to be one of my Vice Presidents, for sure! Surely you must see the self-interests of the Iraqi politicians who gained power by the Bush administration. Of course THEY (ie, the government) want U.S. troops in Iraq. I understand China doesn't use military force because it's not been part of their history. Like Iraq, they were the victims of colonial military power for centuries. Iraq, you may know, was created in 1922 by Winston Churchill who was dividing up the Middle East map with France as the "spoils of war" after WW I. China only gained its independence from the U.K. in 1947. When China saw the massive amounts of military weapons and troops transported to Kuwait before Gulf War I they concluded it would be far cheaper to buy Iraq's oil than to steal it :-)

Lone Protester?

Wow. Have you read about the lone protester? At least the police managed to show up and lock this dangerous fellow away. I mean, after all, he was standing on a public road holding a sign. We simply cannot have those people disrupting illegal aliens at work!

So yes, your tax dollars help to pay for the hours of time of the police department in arresting, charging, and taking the man to court for protesting the illegal aliens who were being paid less than the minimum wage. And no, none of the police did anything about the crime being committed by the illegals just a few yards away from where they arrested the horrible man, Terry Funderburk, for "cursing."

As Terry noted -- apparently in today's society, it is a MUCH more severe crime to protest and say a "bad" word than to employ illegals and pay them less than minimum wage (and perhaps even under the table) -- because he's the one in court while the criminal aliens continue to work. Nice selective enforcement, Columbia, SC. At least he didn't do something REALLY dangerous that would send him to jail -- like distribute leaflets!

NC Voter Fraud

Democrats across North Carolina agree: voter fraud is good for Democracy. The Democrats in the Senate have now passed the bill that will allow and encourage YOU, yes you, to vote in North Carolina -- even if you don't happen to live here, or even if you're not a citizen of North Carolina.

This is more democracy for North Carolina and its citizens

Again, with the government newspeak. By "democracy," they mean "voting without restrictions, including meeting basic requirements like citizenship." So yes, if your goal is more votes cast, rather than more votes cast by actual citizens of the districts, indeed, this is "more" democracy. For all people who want to vote in North Carolina in the 2008 presidential election (no matter what state or country you are a citizen of):

Within a few weeks of the election (any day, really, in the 2-1/2 weeks leading up to an election -- whatever's convenient for you), get a copy of a bank statement. Try not to use a local bank (to you) -- but any BankAmerica or other nationwide bank will do. Use Google maps (or the Yellow Pages) to locate an address in the county in which you'd like to vote. If you want to vote in more than one county, feel free to obtain more than one address. Print out a label with your name (actually, any name will do, they're not going to check or anything) and the address in North Carolina. Place that label on your bank statement. Then show up at the local "early voting" location in North Carolina with that bank statement, and vote away.

It's as simple as that because Democrats want MORE people to cast votes, no matter what. Once again, welcome to the Democrat Party version of "free and fair" elections.

4 Apparently you're not very familiar with the North Carolina government system. How many illegal immigrants have voted illegally? Better yet, how many people have voted illegally? The answers are that no one knows because the North Carolina government is simply not interested in answering that question. There is absolutely nothing in place to even attempt to locate or verify that any votes are legal or illegal. The system in North Carolina is set up to count all votes, no matter who cast them or how.

If you broswe the URL you'll see these are recent events -- Republican "caging" occurred during the presidential elections in 2004 and are planned for 2008 (hence the reference to real Iraqi war veterans who were denied their right to vote after they returned from a foreign combat zone to the USA. Questionable election processes are investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice headed by that shifty-eyed Gonzalez guy. I wasn't advocating that Democrats do two wrongs to make it right. I asked for your opinion -- would you equally support Janet Reno if her administration were charged with Democratic "caging" of primarily Republican voters?

11 Your impression is absolutely the furtherest from the truth. I would be much happier with dozens of political parties. I've rallied against the Democrats in North Carolina who de-certified the Libertarian Party in North Carolina, reducing choices. I've attempted to get Democrats in Raleigh to change the laws to allow MORE political parties in the state, but they strongly resist any attempts to introduce competition into their mob.

NC HB 1366

Usually I just talk about North Carolina government in the mornings. But I received this notice today and thought I'd attempt to spread the word for residents of the socialist republic of North Carolina.

The short version: House Bill 1366 is attempting to give special rights to people based on their actions. If you decide that you want to have sexual relations with a person of your sex, you will be protected more than people who do not. The bill will require government schools to not accept, but encourage, approve of, and teach about homosexuality. This is in direct conflict with the 14th amendment of the Constitution (equal protection).

The longer version:

The pro-homosexual "Bullying Bill" was scheduled to be heard today (Tuesday) in the Senate Judiciary 2 Committee but has been delayed until the committee's meeting on Thursday. It appears that the vote on this bill, House Bill 1366-School Violence Prevention Act, could be very close. We need you to CALL the members of the Senate Judiciary 2 Committee ALL DAY Wednesday and ask them to OPPOSE this bill! The committee membership with phone numbers and county representation is listed below. An Issue Brief describing the bill in more detail is attached.

Please be sure to call the members of the Judiciary 2 Committee on Wednesday, especially if a member of the committee represents your county. THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU! If you call and they are unavailable, leave a message and then call back later. If you responded to our earlier alert and sent an email to your senator about this bill, thank you, but please also call committee members on Wednesday.

THIS IS CRITICAL, because if this bill passes in its current form, it would be the first time in state history that the terms "sexual orientation" and "gender identity or expression" would exist in state law. This bill would affirm and grant special legal status to homosexuality, bisexuality, cross dressing and other "alternative" sexual behaviors, not only in our state law but also in our public schools. Implementation of this bill will virtually ensure that all public school children will be introduced to concepts of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity and expression" as early as elementary school.

TALKING POINTS ON HOUSE BILL 1366:

* HB 1366 would force ALL of North Carolina's local boards of education to adopt anti-bullying policies that grant specially protected status to public school students and employees on the basis of their real or perceived "sexual orientation" and "gender identity or expression." Public schools across the state would be required to affirm, support and defend students and staff who are involved in or identify with homosexuality, bisexuality, cross dressing and other "alternative" sexual behaviors.

* HB 1366 is unnecessary, because the State Board of Education adopted a policy in July 2004 requiring local boards of education to "develop and maintain policies and procedures to prevent, intervene, investigate, document, and report all acts of harassment, bullying, or discrimination no later than January 2005." When adopting this policy, the Board specifically rejected the enumeration of special classifications or characteristics like "sexual orientation" and "gender identity or expression," because they wanted to ensure that the local policies applied equally to all school children.

* Delineating certain groups of students and staff as being specifically protected from bullying would violate the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which requires equal protection for all citizens.

* The inclusion of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity or expression" in state law for the first time in history would pave the way for other pro-homosexual legislation and endless lawsuits challenging North Carolina's marriage laws and other statutes that uphold traditional family values.

1 Unbelievable--this goes way beyond tolerance (though that's where it usually starts). Our kids are bombarded with enough moral confusion on a daily basis without our schools adding to the pile-on. It's vitally important that as many of us as possible contact our representatives. Burr and our national representatives responded to pressure during the immigration debate; these tactics can be even more effective at the state level.

3 Ogre: Did you read the bill? It protects ALL children from bullying and harassment. It's not a pro-homosexual bill, it's a pro-child bill. If a gay kid gets the **** beat out of him and there is proof of harassment/bullying and not just a fight . . . this bill could help administrators and educators protect these children by having more severe punishment for such acts of violence (pre-meditated vs. typical teenage hormonal stuff). This helps fat kids, disabled kids, foreign kids, nerdy kids--any kids that have a characteristic or trait that someone is targeting. TO QUOTE THE ORIGINAL BILL: Bullying or harassing behavior includes, but is not limited to, acts reasonably perceived as being motivated by any actual or perceived characteristic, such as race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, physical appearance, sexual orientation, or mental, physical, or sensory disability, or by association with a person who has or is perceived to have one or more of these characteristics. How does this subject kids to homosexuality or any other trait? The writers of the bill are not supporting gay kids, Muslim kids, blacks, obese kids, retarded kids, transgendered kids, female kids, nerdy kids and any other kids that are picked on. They are saying that these kids deserve a safe educational environment! What agenda are YOU promoting??? Let me guess: the gay-bashing one. If you don't like homosexuals then don't marry one. I like all people and I stand on the side of LOVE. Everyone deserves to be safe and to have the same rights as everyone else! It's not SPECIAL RIGHTS, it's EQUAL RIGHTS and PROTECTION.

BDS - What's Next?

Previously I mentioned a classic case of Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS). The people who are suffering from this syndrome are indeed often quite obsessed with President Bush and often blame him for, well, everything in the world that disagrees with their personal ideas. I have come to wonder what will happen when Bush's term in office is over.

I know when Clinton was in power, people told Rush Limbaugh that he would be lost when Clinton was out of power -- but Limbaugh opposed stupidity in government, not just Clinton. When Clinton left, Limbaugh still had lots to talk about because stupidity and anti-freedom in government still runs rampant (among Democrats and Republicans).

But BDS is completely different. These people are openly opposed to Bush personally. These people blame Bush personally for things like global warming. When Bush leaves office, there is going to be a vast hole in these people's lives. Like most people, they will need to seek something to fill that vast hole. I do not know what they will do with themselves. We can hope and pray that they find something good with which to fill that hole (like Jesus), but I suspect that will not be the case. Instead, I suspect they will become zealots for some other religion -- like environmentalism or global warming.

Government Newspeak

You know, words used to have meanings. When we had one unifying language in the United States (English), we could effectively communicate with one another because the words had a common meaning. When someone spoke of a "horse," for example, people knew exactly what the object of the discussion was. Today, however, that is no longer the case. And the destruction of the language is very intentional and can often be traced to government.

I personally first noticed the total destruction of the language with the misuse of the word "next." Do you know what "next" means? I suspect you do not, because it means whatever the person using it happens to want it to mean at the moment. When I was growing up, it had a very clear meaning. It used to mean something along the lines of "immediately following." That is no longer the case. If you hear it on the radio or TV, in invariably means, "after about 2-3 minutes of commercials."

Government, however, is much better at changing the meanings of words, and often with a more intentionally evil purpose. And yes, in most cases, it is exactly as Orwell predicted it would be in 1984. For example, if you give me $10, do I have more or less money than I did before? If I'm government, you just took money from me. And yes, they can and do repeat and scream that statement until you believe it. You see, I thought you were going to give me $20 and you only gave me $10. Therefore, you took money from me.

To see this amazing redefinition of words in action, check just about any action of your local government. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School board, in cooperation with the Charlotte Observer (socialist paper of record) is now claiming they cut schools and renovations. They are claiming they're "trimming" the budget and they've reduced, removed, and cut schools and classrooms. Of course, this is a total lie because they're actually planning on getting $516,000,000.00 that they did not have before. So literally, in government-speak, giving them $516 million is causing them to make CUTS. That is intentional lying.

And every now and then one of the ~~socialist bastards~~ member of the ~~Politburo~~ lying bureaucrats will make a mistake and their actual words (with real meanings) will get reported:

If we are going to persuade the voters of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County that our needs are real, I think it's important for us to come together and show leadership.

So sayeth $250,000+/ yr Peter Gorman, superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. In other words, he knows the needs aren't real, but that they need to lie and fool the ~~suckers~~ workers and voters that they are real. And to convince the unwashed (that's you) to vote for this massive pile of cash, they will do whatever it takes -- including using words with false meanings to scare you and outright lies.

They also continuously refer to the "bond package" and explain that it will not cost tax money. Either these people really are dumber than a box of rocks, or they're outright lying again. Do you know anywhere that I can borrow $516 million for an unlimited amount of time and I don't have to pay interest on it? I'll give you a clue -- there isn't anywhere. What's happening in Charlotte is that the interest payments on all these "free" bonds is rising every year -- it's now somewhere in the range of 20% of the entire budget! But these government-types honestly don't care. They just want more of your money now for themselves, plain and simple. And like any other common thief, they are more than willing to lie to get your money.

Ronald Reagan once said, "Trust, but verify." Government in this country simply cannot be trusted -- no matter what verification system you want to use. They intentionally misuse words to convince you to make them larger and more bloated. Remember the primary purpose of the government-run (public) education system in America: to get more money for themselves to spend.

1 The Americam people should wake up to the absolute damage that is being done to the country. Senators such as Leahy, Schumer, Kennedy & Feinstein havd only regard for their future control of Congress. What is their response to the murder, sexual assault and arson to the doctor's family in Conn. They now oppose the shielding of persons from civil penalties who turn suspicious behavior (such as the "flying imams' on US Airways) as a favor to their tort lawyers who pay their campaign bills. Wake UP AMERICA!!

3 Jeff, unfortunately, most Americans simply do not care -- about America or freedom. Vlees, I didn't write the cartoon, so I'm not positive, but I have read polls that show Congress' approval rating is actually lower than president Bush's.

5 Well Ogre, since someone questioned your numbers I looked up the gallup polling numbers for June 22, 2007. They were: those who had confidence in Congress-14%, those who had confidence in the president 25%. Overall support for Congress 25%, President Bush 26%.

7 What's missing from this cartoon is the fact that Congress's approval rating rose from 16% in October, 2006 to 23% in April, 2007 -- an improvement of 7% since control of Congress changed hands ... But be honest for a second -- probably everyone in America is pissed off about the Occupation of Iraq although the reasons for their anger could be as different as day and night. It is unreasonable to expect good grades when everyone is dis-satisfied with American foreign policy (albeit for different reasons). But it is worth noting that one rating is trending up while the other is sinking faster than his term is running out the clock ...

8 The point of the cartoon was to point out that the Democrats are trying to complain that Bush's approval rating is low while their own is even lower. It's that whole idea that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Government vs. People

Here at this blog, I often complain about the government. I complain that it's no longer government for the people (or even by the people, any more). But sometimes readers may not completely understand what I'm talking about. To that end, here is an example of a government response and a freedom-based response:

Let's say you witness a situation created by government: the major roads leading into a city are congested with a large amount of traffic. Upon further observation, you can see that most of the traffic is created by individuals in their cars. While some observers may say that this is not even a problem, for the sake of discussion, we'll accept that there's a problem here.

Now, those who are interested in government-based solutions (socialists, communists, members of the Democrat Party, the media, etc) will all observe and see the problem. Then any solution that will be generated will be based on more government control. These types of people will look at the problem and say, "We've got to do something to STOP these people from creating the traffic jam." In this case, as can be witnessed around the country, government tries to STOP people from causing the traffic jam -- they attempt to force people into mass transit. They waste space trying to force people to drive in carpool lanes. They attempt to force people to stop driving by installing taxes and tolls. In all cases, however, all their efforts are focused on forcing people to do something.

In a freedom-based society, government would not try to force people to do anything (other than prevent them from forcing others to do things). A government that was for the people and by the people would instead ask questions like, "How can we let people do what they desire here and reduce the traffic?" They might actually build more roads. They might adjust the lanes so that more lanes are inbound in the mornings (and not HOV-only). They might move the government offices (and their employees) to a location that would remove those employees from the traffic streams. But in all cases, they would not try and adjust people and tell them what to do.

So go ahead and pick a side -- most people already have. Unfortunately, those who side with me, for freedom, often find themselves aligned against the government behemoth -- and paying for the government to take away their very own freedoms. I just wish more people honestly wanted freedom.

1 Can I be on your side, Ogre? I think of the health care situation. Why do people come here to get seen by a doctor? Because our system is fast and efficient while the government isn't mandating everything. I mean seriously, how many things can you think of that the government does efficiently? However, in a free, capitalist society everybody is constantly trying to do a better job so that they get more business. The government wants to keep businesses in check - what keeps a person in check better than another person competing against him? In a perfect society, roads would be built by private businesses, not organized by the government.

3 I envy the people in Japan and Europe and South America who have excellent inexpensive public transportation systems where they can commute to work and travel with their families without spending the $500-$1,000/month to own and operate a private automobile. But perhaps your idea is better. Just PAVE THE PLANET!! One giant slab of asphalt from the south pole to the north pole just so people can hop in their SUV's and drive anywhere they want at any time they want ... after all, who has the time to wait 5 minutes for the next train or, worse yet, suffer the indignity of ACTUALLY WALKING to and from the public transportation vehicles... way too risky for the average American to attempt so much exercise in a single day.

4 If you envy the people in Europe who have "free" public transportation, why don't you live there? I'm being serious. If you think their system is so much better, you should move there. One of the few freedoms left to Americans is the freedom to move. If you don't want to spend the money for a private automobile, no one is forcing you to, either.
