So, what's the solution? Of course, since it's liberal democrats who run the state, the solution is to give them more money. It's not to re-evaluate the current expenses. It's not to look and see where there might be savings somewhere else. It's not to see if there's waste in the system. After all, it's not THEIR money they're spending, it's the taxpayers. So their solution is just to spend MORE.
And yes, that will mean massive, massive tax increases. And of course, they'll claim it's "needed" to fix the roads, so people will support it. Why do they even allow us to get paychecks? It would be so much easier if we just worked, they took the money, and then they gave us whatever was left over -- what they determined we "needed" to spend on our own. What? Socialism? Well, that is the liberal Democrat position in America today.

I couldn't get the focus just right because I was actually standing about 80 yards away from this nice beast while taking the picture.
There's more pictures to come, with Tammi's picture up tomorrow afternoon.

Hat tip: Ban The ACLU This was found on youtube and it's pretty short at 3 minutes. I wish I could find more footage somewhere. It is an accurate account of the ACLU's founding. Does the ACLU's communist founding mean anything about what the ACLU is today? Well, if you plant a lemon seed would you expect the tree to produce peaches? Compare their current goals to the 45 communist goals in the Congressional Record and decide for yourself.

So, after the city charged them, the ACLU decided they didn't like anyone (other than themselves) charging money for anything. Instead, they feel the subjects citizens who want to rally, protest, and potentially riot should be free to do so without any consequences, and all special police protection should be paid for by working people who are NOT rioting. So they sued over a $1000 fee for police protection.
I'd suggest next time that the police, when requested to provide protection for criminals who are protesting in the streets, simply ignore the request. Let the criminal protesters get what they deserve. After all, the could just claim religious objections. But then the ACLU would sue for lack of protection and the morons that pass for judges would let them win.
Dude, where's my free country?

Also, if a board is majority Republican, but a Democrat takes the place of one of the Republicans, there is zero chance ANY Republican issues will ever see the light of day (see: Charlotte City Council, Mecklenburg County Council, NC House, NC Senate).
But hey, it's all about being "nice" and "non-partisan," isn't it? Never mind the politics or the laws that will be passed that are anti-freedom, right? Tell me why we even HAVE party affiliations if they don't matter?

Of course, that's not what the news article says, it simply reports that 65% of people want to ban all smoking in all public places. And of course, even that information is slanted to meet the agenda of the writers. As a matter of fact, the poll asked if they opposed smoking in "public buildings, restaurants, offices and bars" -- which is a FAR cry from "in public" -- but the clear and obvious goal of these anti-freedom people.
Look, if you are one of the 65% of people who support the government banning smoking in all public places, you are an anti-freedom moron. Sorry that you are, and I'm sorry if you're insulted by that statement -- but it's true. When YOU decide that I cannot smoke outdoors, YOU are supporting the complete and total destruction of freedom. It's simply none of your business.
Don't start with the red herring of "second-hand smoke," because those studies have been shown to be questionable -- and they don't even apply because I could smoke and be NOWHERE NEAR ANYONE ELSE, but still be punished for exercising freedom.
However, polls like this do show that any hope for freedom in North Carolina is completely and absolutely gone. If 65% of people strongly oppose freedom, how will the other 35% of us have a chance?

Today I see that That One Muslims is in England, terrorizing bedridden combat troops. Yes, those troops who have been injured and can no longer defend themselves are being verbally attacked (perhaps as a precursor to physical attacks) while in the hospital. And what's the solution by the hospital administrators? No, it's not to remove That One Muslim, it's to move the troops to another wing and let That One Muslim continue his actions.
So, where do you suppose That One Muslim will appear next?

It has been interesting lately to observe just what the critics of the Fair Tax have to say. Lately, much of what has been said has centered around percentages. Clever as it may be to confuse people with cleverly worded assertions that tend to fool the average American when it comes to these issues. If anyone in the audience is similar to me, it takes focused attention lest my eyes glaze over at the thought of following someone's lessons involving percentages, statistics and numbers in general.
Succinctly, what has been asserted that I have seen generally resembles something such as this: (http://www.jpfo.org/fairtax.htm)

Women make up 54 percent of the voters in North Carolina, but just 16 percent of the public office holders in the state.
The Peace College forum was "to change that."
My question: Why?
Why are these people so sexist? Why can't they let people be free? Why is it wrong for people to be free to vote for anyone they want to, and instead should be forced to vote for someone based on their sex?
Look, it's a free damn country (for the most part). If women want to run for office, THEY DO. It really is as simple as that. I know, because I've participated. All you have to do, literally, is walk down to the board of elections, pay your fee, and you're on the ballot. That's it. Now these idiots at Peace college apparently think that women are too stupid to do that?
What another utter useless waste of taxpayer money and time. If women want to be elected, they can do exactly the same thing everyone else does. And if they want to vote for other women, THEY CAN. They don't need busybodies like this to force people to vote based on sex instead of the issues.

My impression was that I was listening to a radio talk show and there happened to be a football game going on. I watched about 45 minutes to an hour of the game and not one time did the announcers say the down and distance -- not one time. They were too busy talking to one another, telling jokes, picking out whether Aquaman could beat Superman, and other such crap.
They missed penalty call announcements on the field because they were answering emails from viewers. They missed injured players because they were talking about the history of some other players that weren't even on the field.
That was really, really awful. Maybe the second half they actually announced the game.

In the last couple months, I've now heard of three different "contests" where people compete, either by writing, calling, or just being randomly selected, to celebrate "Back to School" -- only it's not celebrating "Back to School," it's celebrating "The Kids Are Out of the House and Back In School." And no, that's not my interpretation of it, one radio station called their promotion something like "Let's Party, The Kids are Back in School."
If you openly and publicly celebrate your children going back to school, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Go ahead, call me all sorts of names. Feel free to tell me that I don't understand. Tell me that I don't get it. Tell me I can't comprehend it. I will not change my position. You are sending quite a message here, when you publicly celebrate your children being sent away from you for 8 hours a day.
How would you feel if you stayed with me for the weekend, then I posted about a celebration I was having to celebrate your leaving? The kids know this. The kids get it. The kids don't understand why you hate them so much that you want to celebrate sending them away.
Now I'm not talking about a sense of relief, or a sense that things will be calmer around the house during the day. I'm talking about a public, open celebration. You ARE sending a message to your children. The message is: I DON'T WANT YOU HERE. Nice message. If you don't want to raise kids, don't have them. If you have them and don't want them, talk to a church or adoption center and let someone have them who does want them.
What, did you think your responsiblity for your children ended after conception? Did you think that it's the state's responsibility to raise them once they're 5 years old? If you truly love your children and desire them, you should be disappointed they're away from you all day long for 9 or 10 months of the year. And again, I'm not talking about the slight relief you feel once you've packed them all off and the house is quiet.
You should not celebrate openly that your children will be away from you. You should not brag to others on the phone that you're "relieved" that the kids are back in school. The kids can hear you and see you. They are getting the very clear message that they're not wanted. Think about it.
For those who have read this far and still hate me for calling you out on this one, don't worry, some day your children will grow up and leave you. Then you won't have to deal with them at all during the day or night.

He points out that cigars, interns, and blue dresses would be a welcome relief today -- as opposed to what we're seeing and reading about the Republican SUPPORT of the pedophile Mark Foley.
Since the late 80s and early 90s I have rallied against the Republican Party support of running government like a business and making it the "party of the big tent." As Vox notes -- the Republican Party big tent is now large enough to encompass everyone, while advancing no agenda -- other than that of retaining power.
Yes, that's exactly how the Democrats have operated for decades -- sacrifice anything to retain power. And that's the election this year, how it was in 2004, and how it will likely be in 2008: Don't vote for the other guy, he's bad.
Any genuine conservative would have to be blind, deaf and cognitively challenged to continue to support the Republican Party.
As I've said before -- Conservatives have no political party today.

As usual, the Muslims claim, "I cannot force anybody to change their belief." While actually trying to do that very same thing. Meanwhile, "Airport officials have begun working with taxi drivers to install colour-coded lights on taxi roofs to indicate which are alcohol friendly and which are not."
Now I'm not sure about MN, but everywhere else I've been, all people who drive cabs have to have licenses and permissions from the city. So, since these cabbies are working with the permission of the city, they are imposing their religious beliefs on anyone else who wants to use the cab. So where is the ACLU? Why isn't the ACLU trying to get these cabbies to stop because this is just as clearly a government endorsement of religion, isn't it?
I wish I had the time and money to really create test cases for these things. How far do you think I'd get if I drove a cab at the airport, but before I'd let anyone ride, I'd ask them if they had accepted Jesus as their savior -- and then refused to let them in if they didn't? Oh, I wouldn't be forcing my beliefs on anyone, just not letting anyone in who didn't completely and totally accept my beliefs.
My suggestions for everyone who goes through the MN airport: carry six-packs of beer when you need a cab.

Why do they want to do this? Because tuition has gone up 71% in the last 6 years. Why has the tuition gone up? Because the state keeps giving more money to the schools for students. In North Carolina, the state gives money to the schools for each student enrolled. That money is used as part of the tuition for the student. Therefore, the more money the state gives, the higher the tuition.
So, will costs go down? No, of course not. So how will the schools get the money? According to UNC President Erskine Bowles, "from the State Legislature." This is the world according to Democrats: instead of state schools getting money from the state, the state schools instead should get more money from the state.
How about we do something logical? How about we ask the students to pay for their own education? Wouldn't that be a novel concept? How about students get exactly what they pay for? Or, better yet, why not get the state out of trying to maintain a monopoly on higher education?
And yes, I'm aware that "logic" and "Democrat-led NC state government" do NOT go in the same sentence, EVER.
