Sorry, money-grubbing, mooching looters. If you used to donate money to the zoo (as I used to every single year), there's really no reason for you to donate your $10, $50, or even $10,000 -- it's nothing to these greedy bastards who are now getting $6 million from the state -- which YOU already paid to them.
Greedy thieves like this will only get less the more they demand and take from me.

That's the summary of this article that describes a potential plan to pay even more money to teachers in North Carolina -- as much as 57% more. They claim that there is a retention problem with teachers and by spending more money that problem will go away. It hasn't worked in the past, but like every other Democrat program, the solution is always just a little more money.
Teachers aren't leaving the industry due to lack of money. They're leaving the public education system because it stinks. They have no control over their classrooms. They're punished if they say the wrong thing at the wrong time. They're not allowed to throw disruptive students out of the classrooms. They're punished if they don't pass enough students. More money isn't going to solve that problem.
In addition, in a capitalist system, you earn money for doing one of two things -- doing something no one else can do, or something that no one else wants to do. Programming a computer is something few people can do -- therefore those who CAN do it get more money. Picking up trash is something few people want to do -- so they earn more money. Brain surgery is something that few can do and few WANT to do -- so they earn even more.
Teaching is not a difficult thing to do -- and there are currently a lot of people willing to do it -- so it does not command a high salary in a capitalist society. Government is interfering with the supply and demand, so the rules don't completely apply. But throwing more money will simply allow the people who are already doing it to earn more -- but that's not going to solve all the other myriad problems associated with public education.
If you don't believe me, compare the attrition rate of government school teachers and private school teachers -- it's not about the money.

Responding to reports that phone companies are turning over private details about AmericansÂ’ telephone calls to the National Security Agency, the American Civil Liberties Union today launched a nationwide initiative to end illegal government spying.more...ACLU affiliates in 20 states today filed complaints with Public Utility Commissions or sent letters to state Attorneys General and other officials demanding investigations into whether local telecommunications companies allowed the NSA to spy on their customers.
“We cannot sit by while the government and the phone companies collude in this massive, illegal and fundamentally unAmerican invasion of our privacy,” said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. “And unfortunately, we cannot wait for Congress to act. The ACLU is mobilizing its members and supporters nationwide to demand investigations into this shocking breach of trust. And we are asking the FCC to use its authority to uncover the facts about how far the president's illegal spying has gone. The American people want answers.”

Both resolutions allege that Bush made "false and misleading statements" to justify the war in Iraq, violated laws regulating domestic surveillance and violated a treaty barring the use of torture.
I'm willing to bet these exact same people opposed Clinton being impeached for lying because it's okay to lie about sex but not about war. And no, the resolutions do not list what statements were made that were lies. And for the loons who attempt to back this, keep in mind hindsight is 20/20 -- if I say something I believe is true and it turns out to be wrong, that's not a lie, that's just being wrong.
Well, it's better to have Democrats and lunatics yelling and whining about not being in power than having them in power.

And President Bush gives instructions to the National Guard to "secure" the border:
BUSH: Guards!
TWO GUARDS enter and stand to attention on either side of the fence. One of them has hiccoughs and does so throughout.
BUSH: Make sure the immigrants don't pass this fence until I come and get them.
FIRST GUARD: Not ... to pass the fence ... even if you come and get them.
BUSH: No. Until I come and get them.
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
FIRST GUARD: Until you come and get them, we're not to pass the fence.
BUSH: No ... You stay on this side of the fence and make sure they don't pass.
FIRST GUARD: ... and you'll come and get them.
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
BUSH: That's Right.
FIRST GUARD: We don't need to do anything, apart from just stop them from climbing the fence.
BUSH: Passing the fence.
FIRST GUARD: Passing the fence ... yes.
BUSH: Got it?
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
BUSH makes to leave.
FIRST GUARD: Er ... if ... we ... er ...
BUSH: Yes?
FIRST GUARD: If we ... er ...
(trying to remember what he was going to say)
BUSH: Look, it's simple. Just stay here and make sure they don't pass this fence.
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
BUSH: Right?
FIRST GUARD: Oh, I remember ... can they ... er ... can they pass the fence with us?
BUSH (carefully): No .... keep them over there ... and make sure they don't ...
FIRST GUARD: Oh, yes! we'll keep them over there, obviously. But if they had to pass and we were with them...
BUSH: No ... just keep them over there.
FIRST GUARD: Until you, or anyone else ...
BUSH: No, not anyone else - just me.
FIRST GUARD: Just you ...
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
FIRST GUARD: Get back.
BUSH: Right.
FIRST GUARD: Okay. Fine. We'll remain here until you get back.
BUSH: And make sure they don't pass the fence.
FIRST GUARD: What?
BUSH: Make sure they don't pass the fence.
FIRST GUARD: The Illegal Immigrants ... ?
BUSH: Yes ... make sure ...
FIRST GUARD: Oh yes, of course! I thought you meant him!
(he points to the other GUARD and laughs to himself)
FIRST GUARD: You know it seemed a bit daft me havin' to guard him when he's a guard ...
BUSH: Is that clear?
SECOND GUARD: Hic.
FIRST GUARD: Oh, yes. That's quite clear. No problems.
BUSH pulls open the door and makes to leave the room. The GUARDS follow.
BUSH (to the GUARDS): Where are you going?
FIRST GUARD: We're coming with you.
BUSH: No, I want you to stay here and make sure they don't pass the fence until I get back.
FIRST GUARD: Oh, I see, Right.
They take up positions on either side of the fence.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS: But, Senior Fox said...
BUSH: Shut your noise, you, and get back to picking lettuce!

44 and 45% of North Carolina residents (actually voters because these polls only poll likely voters) think the NC Legislature is doing a bad job and that North Carolina is headed in the wrong direction. That has nothing to do with the fact that criminal charges have been brought against nearly everyone involved with starting up the state lottery, I'm sure.
Finally, EIGHTY PERCENT want the overpayment of taxes refunded to them. So what's the legislature to do? LIE. Claim you're giving tax cuts and reductions when you're not. It's simple because the press will print whatever lies the Democrats tell them to. One day maybe the people will wake up and realize they're being blatantly lied to. Maybe not.

So you head over there and you "surf" various blogs at random. You find new ones, you comment, find new layouts, whatever. As you're surfing, you gain credits. Those credits are then used to display your blog to others who are surfing, too. It's a neat way to find new blogs and a neat way to get your blog some more exposure.
So, if you've never tried one of these things out or seen it, why not take a peek at BlogExplosion -- it's worked pretty good for me.

Now just imagine the story if the writer were a black person and the harassers were white. You'd have every race huckster in the world running to Chicago and searching for news cameras. But since the attackers are supporting criminal invaders and illegal aliens and the victim is white, there's nothing wrong.
How much longer before the race war escalates into armed conflict?

This week we're fortunate enough to have a professional video produced by the folks at Americans for Fair Taxation. It gives a good overview of taxation in America, grassroots movements (and the FairTax initiative is definitely a grassroots issue!), and some good information about the FairTax and how it works. If you have a friend or family member who is not familiar with the FairTax, just have them watch this video. It's less than 20 minutes long, and definitely worth your time!

One problem -- the executive branch didn't do this -- both the judicial branch AND the executive branch agreed that there was evidence of a crime that had been committed -- a felony -- and that a sitting Congressman had committed the crime. It's called checks and balances and it appeared to work just right so far.
If this search is ruled invalid, then Congress will be utterly, completely, above the law. If a Congressman commits a murder in his offices, are the police allowed to investigate? Those who oppose this search are saying that yes, the Congressman's office are literally completely above the law and could not be searched.
When two branches of government agree that a felony may have been committed, by what right does Congress attempt to obstruct that investigation?
The Gun-Toting Liberal wonders why THIS one is a big deal (and suggests that he thinks it's unconstitutional, too). And William Teach points out that it's perfectly Constitutional.

It appears that one criminal alien who entered this country illegally to have a baby so their child could be a citizen and get free healthcare, free education, free housing, and free food started working at a restaurant. Apparently the restaurant decided that if the criminal wanted to work for them, they'd break the law, too, and pay less than minimum wage.
Well, the criminal (the first one) complained. Incredibly (and wrongly), the criminal won their lawsuit against the criminal employer. However, at the same time, the criminal's "baby's daddy" was detained by ICE because he was also an illegal criminal alien.
Therefore, a group that supports breaking the law and the criminal invasion of a foreign country has decided they need to protest the restaurant for turning in the criminals. What a screwed up group of people. And no, there's no word on ANY of the people involved in this actually being charged with a crime -- the restaurant that hired the illegal and paid less than minimum wage, the illegal who came to this country to have her baby so she could get free stuff, nor the illegal who was detained by ICE for a little while.
This is no longer a country of laws.
Kender has more.

Presuming just 55% are employed and earning and paying for their own insurance, that's $2,238 for every person who's not employed to pay for their medical care. Government's not giving me one dime for my medical expenses -- why should so much go to just some "special" people?
Worse, the county is being forced to pay that $1 million, whether the people who live there want to or not. That's wrong. It's not quite taxation without representation directly, but it certainly is indirectly -- the citizens have no say in how their tax money is being spent and that's wrong.
North Carolina is the last state in the union that requires counties to pay for a portion of Medicare -- and they are told exactly how much they are required to spend. However, the legislature in Raleigh (run by Democrats) is more interested in spending money on what they want and retaining control than in a fair representative republic.

Last night the Charlotte City Council met to have a "public discussion" about how much to raise taxes -- not whether to raise them, but how much they would raise them. The bidding started at an increase of 11% and only went up from there.
A number of people showed up to address the city council. NONE wanted to complain about the addition tax burden -- every single one wanted the city to raise taxes more -- and give the money to them. Perhaps next time The Ogre will go to the meeting and make the following request:
I support your tax increase completely. I think you should increase the taxes by an additional 1% because people can afford it and just give me a damn check for the amount you raise it. Why? What difference does that make, I'm breathing, so use your monopoly on police power to take money from someone who earned it and give it to me.
That was the argument given by various city employees last night. They want more simply because they manage to continue breathing -- they're not going to produce any more, they just demand more because they want it.
If you are a productive, working citizen subject in Charlotte, get out while you still can.
