Juries Overruled in NC

Yesterday, Democrat governor of North Carolina signed a new law for the state, introduced and supported by the Democrats in the General Assembly that completes the total destruction of government by the people.

You see, in a free country, in a representative republic, in a country where the people have ALL the power and the government is limited -- a country that was formed in 1776 -- the people have the final say. One of the most basic checks that people have on government is the jury. Quite literally, if the jury disagrees with a law, they are absolutely free to ignore the law. That is how the people retain power in a government that truly is "by the people."

But the Democrats don't like that. I think there must be a plank in their platform that says something like, "We support any and all actions that give more power to government, especially if it costs more money, because people are stupid and we cannot trust them to do anything right." This new "first in the nation" law gives complete and total power to the government. A brand-new government agency, staffed by government and political appointees with now have the power to tell juries that they are full of crap.

I'm not sure why they're even letting us have juries any more. I guess it's like the gerrymandered voting system in North Carolina -- you might think you're having some effect, and that keeps the people from revolting.

ABC PAC

Have you seen this new PAC? It's an organization that's trying to get actual conservatives elected to the US Congress. They claim to be supporting Republican conservatives and not just anyone who happens to put an "R" after their name (Lincoln Chafee, Olympia Snow, et al.).

This week they've been challenged by Representative Jack Kingston of Georgia to raise $26,000 by Friday. If they do, he will contribute an additional $14,000 ($1,000 per candidate) to the PAC to help. So, if you like conservatives, why not head on over and check out the site -- and drop in a few dollars if you can afford it. They've already raised over $10,000 of the $26,000 needed!

ACLU Conflict of Interest

When is the last time you heard a judge recuse himself from a case in which they had a clear, vested, conflict of interest? It happens all the time -- a judge cannot rule on a case where, for example, their own son is being sentenced. They would clearly not be able to be impartial in their decision. It's one of the reasons many higher courts have a number of different judges -- so that one can recuse themselves and judgment can still be rendered.

Of course, this idea is foreign to the left. The left, the ACLU, are all about advancing socialism and communism at all costs, in all cases. The ACLU has even permeated the highest court in the land, making a mockery of justice and the American Way. This penetration is, of course, Ruth Ginsberg.

She decided that she could rule on a case involving the ACLU -- an organization that she used to work for and very strongly support. In a republican form of government with actual checks and balances, she'd be removed from her position immediately for malfeasance. But America doesn't have a representative republic any more. And for that, the ACLU is glad.

Thelma Drake

This week, Wictory Wednesday presents Thelma Drake for US Congress for the Second District of Virginia. Representative Drake is running for reelection for her second term in the Congress and is running against MoveOn backed candidate Phillip Kellam. Polls indicate this will be a tight race, and from the amount of money being poured in by MoveOn, a race of importance in 2006.

Rep. Drake has been a supporter of victory in Iraq, rejecting calls to surrender to terrorists and leave the region in chaos. By providing support that the troops need, it gives the military and administration the latitude needed to do the hard work of reconstruction.

Also a supporter of free trade, Rep. Drake has voted to create a free trade zone in South America to further economic development that is beneficial to all parties. Many protectionists keep railing against the trade deficit without realizing that the trade deficit does more for other countries developing their economies than humanitarian aid could ever do.

Lastly, in the light of the recent debate on immigration, Rep. Drake gets it. Regulating the flow of immigrants is not xenophobia, it is common sense. It is one thing to be generous in allowing immigrants to come here to build a better life. It is another to have no real border and allow anyone, including terrorists, free reign across the border. Immigration is healthy for a county, unregulated flaunting of a border is not.

Please consider supporting Thelma Drake in her race for reelection.

Greensboro Mayor to Violate State Law

Greensboro Mayor Keith Holliday has publicly stated that he does not care what the state laws are, he has the ultimate power and authority to do whatever he wants, even if the state says that he cannot. He is planning on openly defying and assisting others in violating state law 14-177 (crimes against nature) and 14-184 (fornication and adultery).

At the same time, he is being bigoted against heterosexuals, perhaps violating the 14th amendment of the US Constitution; and the NC State Constitution, Article I, Sec. 19, and Article I, Section 1 (but that one's been ignored so long by government that it really doesn't have any meaning anymore).

Of course, since Durham and Chapel Hill (Berkeley of the East) already have violated these laws, the Democrat mayor of Greensboro sees no problem in breaking the law as well. If the laws are flawed, let's change the laws. Of course, I think the Democrats will have a very hard time coming out in the legislature and trying to repeal the crimes against nature and fornication laws. All I ask is that they be honest. If they don't like the laws, remove them -- they ARE a majority there and could quite EASILY remove the laws if they truly wanted to. However, I think they know the majority of this state do not want those laws removed, so they choose just to break them when it's convenient for them.

Marines in Iraq

Two US Marines are listening to the radio in Iraq.

"American soldiers," coos a soft female voice, "Your so-called national Leaders have lied to you. You are needlessly risking your lives to wage A useless, unjust, illegal, and unwinnable war. Now is the time to return home to your loved ones, while you are still alive. If you foolishly insist on remaining where you are not wanted, the brave resistance fighters will have no choice but to kill you and add your name to the long ever-increasing casualty list of this insane war. So why risk never seeing your loved ones again for a so-called president who has repeatedly lied and deceived you at every opportunity? Why should you be sacrificed so that US corporations can enjoy fatter profits? The only wise thing to do is return home now, while you are still drawing breath, before you return zippered into a bodybag."

"What's this?" sneers one Marine. "An Islamo-terrorist version of Tokyo Rose?"

"No," answers the other. "It's just CNN!"

Crush Corporate Welfare!

I think even those die-hard liberals would be able to support me on this one, right? Doesn't everyone want to stop taxpayer money from being spent against their will to the tune of millions of dollars for one corporation that spends the money however they want?

If you're in agreement, please help support this action TODAY in the U.S. Senate where they are debating a bill that would still millions of dollars of taxpayer funds from being used by a private corporation for their own lobbying efforts! Read more here.

Democrat Decker Guilty

The news gets worse for Democrat Speaker of the NC House . One of his cronies, Mike Decker, pleaded guilty to receiving bribes to influence politics. For those who don't know the story, here's a recap:

In 2003, about 59% of the people of North Carolina voted for Republican state representatives. With gerrymandering, that gave the Republicans a 61-59 advantage in the House. Jim Black, Democrat, didn't like that. Mike Decker was given $50,000 and later a brand-new state job created just for him (and one for his son). He then switched parties and registered as a Democrat, giving control of the House back to the Democrats.

Rumors are still swirling about who it was that actually gave Mr. Decker the cash bribe -- conditions of his plea bargin have not been released. It may be that Jim Black himself gave him the bribe -- although Black's multiple lawyers and spin machines completely deny it.

Mr. Black may be led away in handcuffs soon.

Qana, Morality, and War

Patrick Buchanan joins the left in crying out for the US to take responsibility for Israel and Qana:

And because America provides Israel with the bombs it uses on Lebanon, we refused to restrain the Israelis, and we opposed every effort for a cease-fire before Sunday, America shares full moral and political responsibility for the massacre at Qana.

He also joins the opposition in claiming
Israel launched an air war on an innocent people.

However, he illustrates himself that this is not actually the case:
87 percent of Lebanese back Hezbollah, and the entire Arab and Islamic world, Shia and Sunni alike, is rallying behind Nasrallah.

So let me get this straight -- a full EIGHTY SEVEN percent of the people of a country back an organization whose stated goal is the utter annihilation of a country and a people -- but they're innocent. 87% of the people in a country are supporting terrorists who kidnapped soldiers and continue to refuse to release them -- but they're innocent.

I don't condemn all Arabs as terrorists -- but would Mr. Buchanan support the federal government taking any action against a state if 87% of the people of a state decided to secede from the union; declared war on the United States; and started launching bombs into neighboring states? Or would he claim that the people of the state were innocent?

Corpses on Display

Peter Porcupine has up an article about a display of actual human remains in the museum.

Porcupine has an uneasy feeling that the exhibit is designed instead to desensitize us all to human remains, to make nothing sacred by breaking the oldest taboo of all.

I think Porcupine is right. There really is no need to use actual humans here -- a model can be made of plastic of anything they really wanted, despite the claims of the supporters.

I do hope Porcupine can find the time to grab some Cape Cod sand for human dignity's sake.

Hate Crime Logic

Ok, let's see if I can understand the mindset that's at work here.

Item 1: A person walks into an office, declares he is Muslim, declares that he hates Jews, KILLS one and SHOOTS five others. This is not a hate crime.

Item 2: A person states that "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." He takes no actions, he does not encourage anyone to take any actions at all. He is also drunk. This IS a hate crime.

There's a reason "hate crimes" are absolutely abhorrent to me. They are completely arbitrary and utterly impossible to enforce equally. They are totally wrong and incomprehensible. They are in direct conflict with both freedom of speech and equal protection. But for some reason, they still exist. Maybe so that any person can decide who to punish for their thoughts -- if they disagree.

The message: disagree with the government, and you can be severely punished. Go ahead, try again to convince me that this is a free country. I dare you.

More NC Taxes for you

In case you missed it in the closing minutes of the Legislature, the Democrats approved yet another tax increase after spending the $2 BILLION surplus. This one was another tax on road usage. You see, since the Democrats continue to use taxes that are collected from gasoline on non-road usages, they don't have enough money to maintain the roads. If you drive in North Carolina, you don't need me to tell you that our roads are incredibly sub-par.

This plan creates new toll roads, allegedly to pay for the constructions of some other toll roads. Don't believe it, it's a lie, plain and simple. The toll road receipts will go into the general fund for the Democrats to spend at will, as they always do. It's just a way for them to get more money to spend while claiming they didn't raise taxes.

Want better roads? How about using the entire amount collected from gas taxes and all automobile taxes (property, registration, title, impact fees, fines, etc.) for roads? We'd have the best roads in the country because we already HAVE the money. The Democrats just don't want to spend the money on roads because they're more concerned with building oyster farms and the like.
