The Amnesty Zombie
It's
baaaaack.

I'm sure by now most of you have heard the news that the amnesty bill is back and better than ever! What makes it better this time? What makes everything better: MORE MONEY! Yes, the primary selling point of this "new" amnesty bill is that it will spend BILLIONS more in taxpayer cash! Hooray, spending!
This bill once again shows how incredibly disconnected the billionaire's club (that's the US Senate) is from actual people of America. VAST majorities of Americans oppose this amnesty bill. McCain LOVES amnesty, especially when you don't call it amnesty. But these billionaires simply think differently from normal people -- they honestly believe that if they throw billions of dollars at something, then people will like it. After all, how can people not like lots of money? The Senators LOVE money -- especially when it's not theirs and they didn't have to work for it.
Is there any person in America not in the US Senate that actually believes these morons? Seriously. This plan promises to issues Z-Visas to criminals who are "in the shadows" faster than they can issue normal passports to American citizens who have been in the system their entire lives. This amnesty plan promises to enforce the border will billions of dollars when these same idiots can't even build a 700-mile long fence.
It really doesn't matter how much "enforcement" they claim to be putting in this bill: they simply will NOT enforce the border. They won't do it now, so I don't know why one single person would believe them when they claim they're going to do it once they grant amnesty to all the current illegals.
But hey, they're the Billionaire Senate, and they're smarter than everyone else on the planet. We should all, apparently, just shut up and let them spend our money because they is smarter than me. Well, I'm tired of them. I want a country that has international borders. I want a country that actually has some pride in itself. I want a country that is ruled by laws, not men. Unfortunately for me, there's no such place on Earth today. Anyone want to start a country with me?
Update: I'm not the only one who is calling this The Amnesty Zombie!

You know I prefer commenting on the more lighthearted posts, especially those involving Eric The Fish and Eric The Llama. But this new revived Amnesty Bill is just (expletive ending in "ing" deleted) unbelieveable.
I couldn't agree more with what you wrote above than if I plagiarized it and put my name to it. With Trent Lott as disconected to main street as he is, blaming "Talk Radio" - the republicans and Conservative politicians who favor this bill have crossed into Theater of The Absurd, from which they will never return.
It "Talk Radio" represents every day, common sense logic - and I believe it does - (just like the United Arab Emirates port deal - which people voiced their outrage via Limbaugh, Hannity, et al) - then there really is no difference with the Amnesty bill. That said, after examing the UAE ports deal, there wasn't much objectionable to it, but Conservative Talk Radio (except Rush - who favored it) did whoop it up into a frenzy that was not accurate. The Amenesty sham is a completely different creature than the UAE ports deal.
The cartoon says it all, and I am very disappointed with Bush on his continued support of this, as well as the Billionaire Club Senate.
.....
and now, back to our regularly scheduled Eric The Fish, already in progress.

Indeed, this issue has really gone way beyond comprehension. The reason it died last time was because the VAST majority of people hated it! Only billionaires actually believe that just throwing more money at the problem makes it better. We need to throw out the entire Senate and start over.

el Presidente Bush
When I voted for Bush, it was mostly a vote against alGore. However, the idea of more dead terrorists and lower taxes certainly helped my decision. Now, however, I'm completely done with the man. His non-stop promotion of total amnesty for all illegals is bad enough, but now he's
completely outdone himself. Bush now wants to free CONVICTED child murderers who have committed crimes so severe as to merit the death penalty. These evil bastards have killed children and other and been processed through the entire US justice system and have been found guilty.
However, Bush wants them freed because they were illegal alien invaders and they might not have been offered a chance to speak with their Mexican consular after they were arrested. Yes, because these miserable, horrible, evil murderers (convicted in many courts of law) weren't asked, "Gee, Senior, would you like a free pass out of the country?" then Bush is trying to set them free.
Bush actually is supporting Mexico and illegal alien invaders over innocent citizens and children of America.
The state of Texas told Bush what he could do with his demands to set the criminal bastards free. Bush has now gone to the US Supreme Court to attempt to get them to enforce his presidential power. If the court rules against him, I wonder if he'll pardon these evil, deadly criminals. If the court rules for him, I hope the state of Texas tells the Supreme Court where they can stick it.
Either way, Bush is way, way out of line and completely out of control. Well, it is quite often said that "Power Corrupts." No kidding.

China is quickly becoming the new landlord of American private property through extensive use of cheap prisoner labor. The genius of Bush's amnesty plan is it does the same favor for the billionaire CEO's in America but his plan avoids the high costs of paying for prison guards. Give the guy some credit for boosting corporate profits, man! All our stock portfolios will grow without bounds and America will live happily ever after.

Right now the Nixon administration would be an improvement.
Besides, presidential elections are won and lost based on 30-second TV commercials that evoke emotional responses, not thoughtful reflection on what any candidate actually proposes...
Do you think the average American is going to bother to read anything substantive on either Hillary or Rudy's web page?
Posted by: el Gringo del CheapLabor at June 21, 2007 11:42 PM (wyUSq)

Incredible, but true -- Nixon would be better right now.
And it is indeed unfortunate that the majority of voters simply will not know anything about the candidate they vote for other than the letter after their name, R or D. Very sad.

A Real Debate
So, are you as unimpressed with the recent "debates" with 10 people? Does it seem wrong to you that these debates always have certain candidates that get most of the questions and do most of the talking? I don't know about you, but I'd love to see a REAL debate -- a discussion where two people take up contrary positions and they discuss the merits of their positions.
How about a debate between Rudy and Ron? That's Giuliani and Paul, for those who were wondering. I'd love to see those two, who obviously have very different opinions on the current war in Iraq, talk and discuss, without others. If you'd like to also, head on over to that site (linked above) and sign the petition. I know, it's an internet petition, but still -- wouldn't that be a great debate (no matter which side you're on)?

Charlotte Crime Rate
Crime in Charlotte
increased by 3.5% this past year -- while statewide the crime levels only increased by 0.6%. Could that have anything to do with the recent 274% increase in the foreign-born population in and near Charlotte? Hmmm?
But don't worry, government will do it's job here. As pointed out in the article, the mayor of Charlotte went to Raleigh in February (on a "road trip") to ask for more money. No, they didn't take any of the money for the choo-choo away, they just asked for more. $1 billion for the train, but $0 for law enforcement. That's the Charlotte way. And don't you DARE question them. If you do, you're a "naysayer" and just trying to cause trouble -- because that 3.5% increase in crime wasn't from people causing trouble, somehow.
Yes, Charlotte government has it's priorities in order:
#1: Build a train set.
#2: Spend more money on stuff.
#3: Make sure the train gets built.
#4: Raise fees and house values so you can get more money and claim you're not raising taxes.
#5: Make sure the train set looks nice, no matter what it costs.
#4,390: If the people complain a LOT, ask Raleigh to handle the crime issues because government has more important things to do.

Happy Flag Day!
Today is Flag Day! Did you know? Is your flag flying? If it's not dark yet, get your flag out there and fly it! Mine has been up all day. Of course, I normally have one flying...but today it's up there all by itself (instead of with a second flag, as is usually the case). Celebrate and fly that flag!

Freedom vs. Multiculturalism
I observe politics a lot. I understand a lot about how people of different political stripes think. Sure, there are many times that I see things that don't make sense -- but I can often eventually determine why certain types of people support certain positions, even if I disagree with them. But sometimes, when a group contradict themselves, I just don't get it.
For example, I understand Democrats. Heck, most today admit they don't like freedom, and most of their positions are anti-freedom, so they're consistent. They dislike the military, so they dislike war. They dislike freedom, so they support socialized medicine. In general, they honestly believe in utopia if the right people are in charge. Now I don't agree with all that insanity, but I understand it. But the one I don't understand is the "People cannot be illegal" signs.
When Democrats and Socialists take this position, it makes logical sense. But when libertarians, who claim to like liberty, take this position, I'm rather confused.
You see, freedom is what America used to be. 50-100 years ago if you wanted to know anything about freedom, you simply looked at America. This was the ONE place in the world where you could really find freedom. I love freedom. Freedom has been declining a lot in America over the last century, yet it's still the most free place in the world. But those who support open borders are actively working to destroy freedom!
Stay with me -- In order to have freedom in the world today, you need the America of the last century. America was based on freedom -- "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave." America was built upon personal responsibility and rugged individualism. Freedom was ingrained in every citizen from their birth. When the world wars appeared, Americans didn't hesitate to fight for freedom around the globe -- the Marine Corps Hymn even says, "First to fight for right and freedom." Freedom and American culture were synonymous.
Then came multiculturalism. This radical departure from the last 200 years was a new philosophy that claimed that every other culture on the planet was just as valid, just as good as the American culture. Whether you were from a third-world terrorist country, or a cannibal from the jungles of South America, your ideas and culture were just as good as America -- as good as freedom. Multiculturalism demanded that Americans accept all other cultures, no matter their values.
So today, those who support open borders and unlimited migration are saying that the socialist system that has made Mexico a third-world country is just as good as freedom. Those who cry out "No Human is Illegal" are saying that freedom is no better than socialism. If we cannot agree that the unique American culture of the past 200 years based on freedom is not better than living in a monarchy or tyrannical dictatorship, then America is indeed lost.
To those who would call yourself "pro-open borders" and pro-liberty or pro-freedom at the same time, I would suggest you're contradicting yourself -- and one of your positions is going to lose. It is looking like the position that's going to lose is the freedom-based, uniquely American position.

America's Multiculturalism used to be called the "melting pot", no?
What makes America unique is that our multi-cultures co-exist and are assimilated into the American way of life.
When you visit other countries they have ONE culture (Japan, China, Africa, Latin America) and tourists stand out. Here in America we can eat in Japanese, Chinese, Ethiopian, Mexican, Middle Eastern restaurants and nobody knows if you are an American-born Muslim serving in the National Guard or if you are a Middle-Eastern Muslim visiting the USA.

The balance of individual freedom and the individual's responsibility to the nation was something the Founders took great care to address. When it gets out of whack (i.e. illegal immigration), we experience problems. WRT the firings of the attorneys, it seems to me that's neither here nor there. It's actually pretty standard practice for the attny gen'l of an administration to do a "clean sweep" of the existing US attorneys and replace them with new ones...Gonzales only sacked 8. The fact that he can't come up with good reasons may make him an idiot, but certainly not unethical or a criminal.

Bull Run Yankee, you're exactly right on the melting pot -- people used to come to America to JOIN America and become part of it. Now immigrants bring their own culture with them even when it opposes American culture. Did you know that the crappy government education system no longer teaches the "melting pot" theory? Instead they teach that it's a "tossed salad" -- so other cultures can join WITHOUT assimilating. I say if your non-American culture is so good, go back to where you came from and have your culture!
And indeed, Nathan, personal responsibility used to be a big thing -- but it's simply not allowed any more. Government will not allow me to take responsibility for myself, they insist on taking that away from me -- and that's just plain wrong.

Ogre, did you know there is a difference between first generation and later generation immigrants?
For example, first generation Italian immigrants brand new to New York City during late 1800's moved into the same tenement building as others from the same village that was their home in Italy. Why do you think they did that?
Well, they didn't speak English, so they could learn their way around NYC quicker by speaking Italian with their friends from the old country. They could find jobs with some help from their Italian friends who introduced them to their bosses where they worked. And they could trust their friends from the old country because they are all beginning a new life in America, but their families in the old country may have known each other for generations.
They immediately recognized that English-speaking people advanced farther and more rapidly. Even Latino immigrants today know that English-speaking guys are chosen first by the American driving the car to pick them up and take them to the work-site, and the English-speaking Latinos always get the better jobs than the Spanish-only-speaking day workers get.
Second-generation immigrants are educated alongside American children and by the time they finish their education they speak English as well or better than their local classmates, and they definitely want to be "cool" by American standards. They are assimilated into American culture, except they have a much stronger work ethic than their American friends.

Nathan, it has been customary for in-coming presidents to replace all the politically-appointed District Attorneys with new, qualified people who agree on most issues with the new president's policy. Perhaps you didn't know that this was the first time in U.S. history that U.S. Attorneys were fired while in the middle of a term where all were actively involved in prosecuting several cases. It is generally thought unwise to change prosecutors during an active trial because the prosecution's case will certainly lose some continuity during the transition and will have to try to re-establish credibility with the trial judge and jury. The in-progress trials are put at risk when a prosecuting U.S. Attorney is replaced.
This was not a "clean sweep" as you suggest. It was a deliberate, calculated effort to replace just eight specific Republicans who for some still unknown reasons weren't "Republican enough" to satisfy the political ambitions of George Bush.
During a Congressional Investigation Attorney General Gonzalez made several conflicting statements, sometimes saying he was "intimately involved" in the firings of eight U.S. Attorneys and other times saying he had very little direct knowledge of the eight dismissals. Responsibility for deciding which U.S. Attorneys to fire was never established, and stated reasons switched between "performance-related issues" and "political expediency" and were never resolved or communicated to the interested parties.
It's not that AG Gonzalez couldn't give a good reason for firing any one of the U.S. District Attorneys, it's that he gave two or more different reasons for firing a District Attorney and some people call that lying to Congress. Of course we should expect complete honesty from the highest-ranking law enforcement officer in our government.
Posted by: Bull Run Yankee at June 16, 2007 08:59 AM (9OdDd)
10
That's how second-generation immigrants USED TO behave. They're not any more. Multiculturalism encourages immigrants to retain their own language and culture -- and forces government and Americans to adapt and learn their language. That's wrong.
Posted by: Ogre at June 16, 2007 12:06 PM (XQnlX)
11
Well, like I said, it looks as if Gonzales didn't have particularly good reasons for firing those attorneys, and whoever was directly responsible, it seems clear that Gonzales is doing a lousy job of running Justice.
I'd like to see him go, and I wish Bush would show him the door, but the fact remains that Gonzales has the right to fire who he wishes (however ill-advised it might be), and the same goes for Bush.
Nothing criminal was done, which is why I believe that Congress's time could be better spent. Do we really need hearings to determine that Gonzales is an idiot?
Posted by: Nathan Tabor at June 16, 2007 05:19 PM (uV2Xy)

Jessica's Law in NC
"JessicaÂ’s Law Now North Carolina" is trying to be positive and cautiously optimistic, in hopes that the Judiciary II Sub-Committee will do the right thing by moving forward with HB 933, the Jessica Lunsford Act, at their 10:00 am. meeting Thursday, June 14, 2007.
Representative Tim Moore (R- Cleveland) has been fighting to get HB 933 heard before a sub-committee. This has been due to Representative Chairman Dan Blue dragging his feet about the bill.
Still, it has been over three years and our lawmakers have not done anything but act busy as this bill and others languished in committee. For the sake of our children, North Carolina needs to get tough on Sex Offenders and pass JessicaÂ’s Law before it is too late. The more delays, the more children fall through the cracks.
This past year, a coalition formed taking a non-political stand, because it was the division of politics that was holding up this bill. The coalition called, “Jessica’s Law Now North Carolina” was a response to the apathetic lawmakers, who were dithering about Jessica’s Law, rather than making a solid difference toward protecting our children. Jessica’s Law Now North Carolina issued warrants for Judiciary II Committee, Sub- Committee, and Speaker of the House well as other members of North Carolina House. It was for people to call our representatives on both sides and urge them to do right thing and pass HB 933, the Jessica Lunsford Act.
On Tuesday, April 24, 2007 the Judiciary II Committee met, led by Representative Dan Blue (D-Wake County) and he sent HB 933, the Jessica Lunsford Act to a sub-committee. The reason given was this eleven paged bill was too long to read; and various committee members had trouble with it. This was a way the bill could be taken apart and weakened or worse get buried, once again.
The next day was Legislation Day and Mark Lunsford was present for a press conference to urge lawmakers, to pass a bill for stronger laws against sex offenders. Mark Lunsford is the father of Jessica Lunsford who was raped and murdered. In the memory of Mark LunsfordÂ’s daughter Jessica, a law had been introduced to enforce stricter laws pertaining to sex offenders called it was called, JessicaÂ’s Law.
"We should all work together to make sure that Jessica's Law is passed in all fifty states. There are presently 15 states that have not yet passed any form of Jessica's Law, it saddens me to think that my home state of Tennessee and North Carolina where I grew up is included in the list of states that have not passed Jessica's Law. I do not know why, but I intend to find out." God Bless, Charlie Daniels
Since Charlie Daniels made this statement, laws have become stricter in Tennessee for sex offenders. Tennessee now has a version of Jessica's Law. North Carolina is one of the 11 states that has not step up to the plate for Jessica's Law and our representatives are inconclusive, as to what they are doing to make this law a reality.
"JessicaÂ’s Law Now North Carolina" will not rest till North Carolina has passed JessicaÂ’s Law.

Broadcast the Truth of Christ into Iran
Since taking power, Iran's president, Mahmud Ahmadi-nejad, has made some remarkable statements which have garnered the attention of the world's media and the concern of the world's governments. Just look at some of what Ahmadi-nejad has claimed:

- The Holocaust is a "myth" and never really happened.
- "We don't shy away from declaring that Islam is ready to rule the world."
- Iran's "culture of martyrdom-seeking" is the country's best guarantee of national security.
- In an open letter to President George Bush, Ahmadi-nejad invited Bush to become a Muslim; then later said in an interview, "Those who refuse to accept an invitation to good will (to follow Islam) will not have a good ending or fate."
President Ahmadi-nejad follows a radical sect of Shi'a Islam that is awaiting the return of the "12th Imam," or the "Mahdi," a figure Shi'a Muslims believe will return to earth and usher in a time of peace and justice...after Islam has taken over domination of the world. When he was mayor of Tehran, Ahmadi-nejad advocated widening the roads in order to accommodate the Mahdi's triumphant entry into the city.
Iran's people are constantly hearing the messages of the Mahdi's return; but with the help of VOM readers, they are also hearing messages about another return: the return of Jesus Christ. CLICK HERE to learn how you can help.

NC Rep Harrison Wants Higher Energy Prices
Representative Pricey Harrison (D)
wants higher prices. Apparently Miss Harrison, a retired attorney really thinks that the people of North Carolina aren't paying enough for their electricity. In her commentary, she doesn't say if she thinks that gas prices are high enough to make her happy or not. But she says that prices for electricity and natural gas simply aren't high enough, so she's working to increase the price (not the tax) that people will have to pay to use them -- to make more jobs.
She starts out by complaining:
North Carolina ranks in the top four states in the country for increases in carbon dioxide emissions. CO2 emissions in our state increased at twice the national rate from 1990 to 2004. Emissions from our coal-fired power plants, which increased 52 percent during that time, account for almost half our state's total.
Of course that MIGHT be because North Carolina gained 633,929 residents between 2000 and 2005 -- the sixth largest increase in the country. Do you think that all these new residents might need to actually use electricity? Apparently Miss Harrison thinks they are using too much, so she wants to raise the prices up so people will not be able to afford electricity.
So, what, exactly, would she do to stop people from using so much evil electricity? She has introduced House Bill 77. This bill would REQUIRE that any facility that generated electricity generate a specific, random, percentage from "renewable sources" -- no matter the cost. And no, they're no allowed to use nuclear, either. This bill would require that by 2021 20% of the total electric power sold in the state be generated from her specific, preferred methods -- no matter the cost, no matter what other ways to generate electricity may be discovered in the coming years.
She argues that nuclear is no good because too many smart people would be highly paid to run those plants -- but if North Carolina can build dozens of solar and wind power plants (no matter if they work or not) -- then North Carolina can have lots of dumb people employed.
Throughout her entire argument and the entire bill, there is no mention of cost to the consumer. The power companies will be forced to spend large amounts of money on inefficient methods and will be forced to pass on those massive costs to the consumer.
Indeed, this bill will have the desired effect Miss Harrison wants -- it will reduce the amount of CO2 emissions and the amount of dependency on foreign sources of energy -- by forcing more of the poor in North Carolina to turn back the clock 100 years and live without electricity.

I think that we need to check which legislature-supported "non-profits" she is on the board of to find out why while she might pay more, it won't cost her a dime more.

Want to Change the World?
Well then, just
buy it. That's what I've been telling people for years. If you want to preserve some area of wetland or forest, just buy the damn thing. Oh, and I mean that YOU should buy it, NOT government using my money.
The story linked above is about Douglas Tompkins and his buying of over half a million acres in Argentina because he wanted to save the wildlife, the wetlands, and the soil. Nicely done, Mr. Tompkins. What an excellent way to put your money where your mouth is.
Of course, he's opposed by members of the left who believe that no person should own anything and that everything should be owned and controlled by the state. I'm thinking that we'll never learn, no matter how many times in human history we repeat it, that socialism fails every single time it's tried. The closest socialism has ever come to working is in a limited form, like we have in the country formerly known as the United States.
Socialism works here because people have the illusion of freedom and really think that they own things. As long as the people are deluded, American socialism will continue to work.
But again, what a great job by Mr. Tompkins. More people who have money and are just whining to use MY money should stand up and start spending that money to preserve what they want to preserve.

A Terrorist By Any Other Name
I have been closely following the actions of the government in Plainsfield, NH. At issue is one Ed Brown, "fugitive."
I mentioned last week the federal government moving in with tanks to surround Mr. Brown. After the events, the government claims they were only serving a warrant on an abandoned property. Of course all logic, common sense, and eye witnesses all contradict that lie. The feds were going to kill Ed Brown, they just got spotted.
This recent activity has spawed an opinion piece by Larken Rose. I will reprint the article in it's entirety here:
The belief in "authority" drastically warps the way most people view reality. Oddly, people like to think the belief is a civilizing influence, when the exact opposite is true: the most heinous evils because generally accepted as legitimate and good when done by a perceived "authority." Most people are utterly incapable of viewing the world without their authority-colored glasses dramatically twisting what they see. The belief in "government," man-made "law," and "authority" in general, make most people unable to see the literal truth of what is going on.
For years now the government and the media have been condemning the evils of "terrorists." Who are they talking about? Well, if you use the government's definition, a "terrorist" is one who uses violence, or the threat of violence, to achieve a political end.
As many of you have heard by now, a collection of several vehicles, apparently including an armed vehicle, filled with heavily armed state and federal "law enforcement" personnel, was seen yesterday heading towards the New Hampshire home of Ed and Elaine Brown.
As I understand it, those "authorities" have now laid seige to the place, and cut the phone lines, but it sounds like there has been no raid and no arrest as of yet. (Incidentally, I'm just getting this from various internet posts, so don't expect me to have any special inside info.) In one newspaper article, one of the "law enforcement" personnel said that they had no intention whatsoever of having a violent conflict with the Browns. Yeah, sure. I guess they brought along the armored vehicle to do some fun off-roading in their spare time.
Can anyone tell me, with a straight face, that the government is NOT using violence, or the threat of violence, to achieve a
political end? Mr. and Mrs. Brown did not assault anyone, or rob anyone, or defraud anyone. Their "sin" was to not pay the federal terrorists their "protection" money, which (as far as I can tell) the Browns had good reason to believe they didn't even "legally" owe.
But whether a terrorist passes a "law" before committing his
violence makes no difference to whether his actions are righteous or justified. Unfortunately, it does make a huge difference to whether people PERCEIVE the actions as justified. If not for the belief in "authority," any moron could see that the Browns are now surrounded by a gang of terrorists. But when the terrorism is "legal" (whatever that means), the vast majority of people suddenly see the VICTIM as the bad guy, and the perpetrators as noble "law enforcers."
There is one up-side to the current thuggery being used against the Browns: it is happening in the open. Normally the terrorism perpetrated by American "authorities" is only implied, which helps people not think of it as terrorism. EVERY demand by government is backed by the ability and willingness to use force, including deadly force. Because most people comply long before such a threat ever becomes blatant, we rarely see the true nature of the beast. Only when people like the Browns refuse to comply with the veiled
threats dressed up as "requests" do we get to see the NON-veiled threats, which show the true nature of the American terrorists.
If you want a taste of what lies behind the euphemism of American "law enforcement," go rent "Waco: Rules of Engagement." These people are murderers and terrorists. Behind their uniforms and pretended legitimacy, they are despicable, power-happy, authority-worshiping fascists, who will not hesitate to injure, torture, or kill their fellow man if the "government" myth tells them to.
I very much hope that the Browns have a better end result than the Branch Davidians did. One advantage they have is that a lot more people are paying attention to what is really going on up there (though it sounds like the terrorists, who like their sins to be done in secret, have cut their phone lines).
It was only a few short years ago that I considered myself to be a supporter of "law enforcement." After a few first-hand experiences (a lot more tame than what the Browns are going through) showed me who and what these people really are, I am proud to say that I will forever be an enemy of the state, as any decent person should be. You cannot be pro-government and anti-terrorism. The two are one in the same.

I don't know, that seems like a pretty extreme view of the world. Take a look at Gaza and the West Bank to see what the world would look like in the absence of this kind of authority.
I have to say that I've read a lot about the Branch Davidians and Waco and I'm still not that sympathetic to them. Also, I just don't see what happened there being played out in any general sense.
This kind of sophist logic is the same thing you see on blackprof.com where racist events at some tiny high school in Louisiana are generalized to the entire nation while Major League Baseball's reverence towards Jackie Robinson is ignored.
Going from individual examples to general statements about the larger population requires statistical analysis. The hypothesis in the article you quote, just like the paranoia over at blackprof, utterly disintegrates under statistical tests.

I didn't look that deeply into the article. Mostly, I thought it was an interesting comparison between terrorists opposed by government and government acting as terrorists.
I believe in Waco, as in Ruby Ridge, and now in New Hampshire -- no person had harmed any other person but the government initiated force and directly killed people who were non-violent.

NiFong on Trial
Mike Nifong, famous for supporting false and unproven allegations against white Duke Lacrosse players so Nifong could get re-elected in a majority black district, goes
on trial today. Unfortunately, it's only for violating alleged ethics rules for the state bar association (lawyers have ethics rules?)
Mike Nifong is a district attorney. In North Carolina, this is an elected position. Yes, he's a Democrat. To tell you how far above the common man this person thinks, how about this quote from his lawyer:
Public opinion is not going to weigh in on how the proceeding develops and will not weigh in on the ultimate decision by the bar. Our purpose is not to sway public opinion but to present his case to the State Bar.
In other words,
This case does not concern you peons, so shut up. This is a private club here, us lawyers who are above the law. We don't care what the people think, except when it's election time, and then we only care when we can't gerrymander the election results in our favor. Now go away while we big people talk now.
Welcome to Democrat-led government in North Carolina.

IntroComp Interactive Fiction
Hey, do you write IF? Actually, I'm guessing most of my good readers don't even know what I'm talking about when I refer to "IF." No, it's not "if," the word you use to precede a comparison to make a decision. It's I.F. as in "interactive fiction." Still no clue, huh?
Well, while Wikipedia is quite often a total cesspool, when it comes to specific, non-political issues, they do sometimes have good information:
Interactive fiction, often abbreviated IF, describes software simulating environments in which players use text commands to control characters and influence the environment. Works in this form can be understood as literary narratives and as computer games. In common usage, the word refers to text adventures, a type of adventure game with text-based input and output.
Yeah, it's a text-based computer game. The most classic and grandfather of all of these is "Adventure." XYZZY? Remember that one? I sure do.
Well, all that done now, the reason I'm talking about all this is that I just found out there's to be another Interactive Fiction Competition. It's really neat stuff and actually VERY simple to create -- check out TADS if you want a simple way to make your own text adventure game -- and then you can join in the competition!

No, no, that's not it. With THIS type of interactive fiction, the author writes the entire story with clues and puzzles while the readers of the fiction actually try and figure out the fiction by playing a game!

Gas Prices: Blame Bush!
Every time gas prices go up, it's Bush's fault and "Big Oil" making too much money. As you may or may not have noticed,
prices are dropping a lot recently. I noticed it because in my area, prices dropped below $3.00 for the first time in a number of weeks.
So I'm not waiting for the parties and celebrations. Where is the praise for this great president who brought down the oil prices? Can I get an "amen" from whatever church Hillary is pandering to this week? After all, thanks to Bush and "Big Oil," more people can afford both dog food AND medicine because Bush made gas prices lower.
I'm waiting...

You don't have a clue about the petro-dollar-cycle, do you, Mr. Jones?
The Arabs took $252 billion in 2005 for OPEC's oil and put back $311 billion by purchasing U.S. Treasury bills.
It's one heck of a deal for this Administration. All the goodies, from nuclear subs to tax cuts to war in Mesopotamia, appear to be "free" to the taxpayer. It's all just put on the tab, the national debt, including the interest on it.
The cash money needed to pay the government contractors is first collected from U.S. consumers via the hidden oil tax for which Mr. Bush takes no blame.
Because of Mr. Bush's deficits, U.S. federal government interest payments for 2002 through 2011 will total about $2.4 trillion. That's interest payments only.
If we had to pay only the debts Bill Clinton left us, the interest payout would have been just a fourth of that, $622 billion.
Mr. Bush's interest payments themselves are on the tab as well, rolled into the national debt.
Anyway, petro-dollars are "taxes" collected from consumers at the gas pump, sent to the Middle East, and then they flow back into the U.S. as government debt so that W. Bush has the cash to pay the incredible profit-making machine Erik Prince runs in North Carolina called BlackWaterUSA.
Now do you see how higher gas prices are effectively a Bush Administration tax increase on Americans? Don't expect gas prices to fall very much while Bush continues to militate his way in the Middle East.
After all, BlackWaterUSA doesn't accept government credit cards and there are an estimated 100,000 private mercenary soldiers serving as "coalition partners" in Iraq.
Note: The expression "petro-dollar-cycle" was coined by Greg Palast at gregpalast.com

Check out

Average price of gas was $1.51/gallon when Bush took office and now it is $3.12/gallon.
After the price doubles for the duration of the Iraq War you want to have a celebration parade because the price drops a nickel for the past one week?
$2.4 trillion in debt interest payments alone and you want to celebrate a 5-cent blip in the price of gasoline?
Well, I guess 5 is bigger than 2.4 ...

Well, uh, yeah, i guess so... i'm a techie nerd and not very good at reading between the lines.
i thought you were being sarcastic, like me :-)
so what are you really saying about gas prices and H.C. pandering??
do you have a different theory about the connection Greg Palast makes between gas prices and foreign ownership of U.S. debt?
could our government continue its mind-boggling spending spree without foreign financing?

Okay, here was my point:
Every time gas prices go up, the media, Democrats, and others with Bush Derangement Syndrome always yell and scream that it's Bush and the evil Republicans' fault that prices have risen. However, for some reason, when prices drop, they NEVER claim that it's Bush and the evil Republicans' fault. It seems that prices fall based on market pressure, but only rise when Bush demands them to. I was pointing out the usual hypocrisy of the left.

Thanks. Now i don't feel so dumb. I got the connection between blaming Bush when prices go up but no commentary when prices drop. But i jumped into my own theory on gas prices without acknowledging the point you were making. well, i didn't create the "petro-dollars cycle" theory; i just read it and it seems logical to me.
i was hoping to get a take from somebody else if they see a flaw in the "petro-dollars cycle" theory (where cash is extracted from taxpayers at the gas pump and deposited into the U.S. treasury by Middle East royal families so the federal government has tons of cash money to SPEND _without_ raising taxes -- nice trick, huh?)
i know the left has its usual biases and wonder if the "no new taxes" bias of the right blinds them from seeing other ways the government takes money from the governed to pay the bills for those who run the government (not necessarily our president and members of congress).
i enjoy your wit and irony -- it's very refreshing to read someone making a political point without bitterness and disrespect for the other side. Greg Palast is an entertaining writer like you, too, except he's an investigative reporter for BBC, so i guess that makes him a "lefty".

Of course I have what I've been told is a "strange" view of the government. I believe that ANY time they get more money, that's a tax increase -- and I don't care what they call it or how they get the money!

I'll read up on that "petro-dollar" and see what I can find, thanks for sending the link along.

I was just trying to find a connection between increased gas prices and increased government spending. Maybe it's not a direct cause & effect; maybe gas price increases are just an enabler that makes increased government spending possible. (After all, Eric Price demands cash on the barrel head, not T-bills, as payment for his private military forces.)
Then again, it may be "innocent fraud" as described in John Kenneth Galbraith's 60-page 2004 book titled "The Economics of Innocent Fraud." Not every absurd reality is caused by deliberate, corrupt stealing from taxpayer; some can be explained by blind acceptance of "conventional wisdom" such as beauracracy exists only in government and never in corporate management and that "market forces" will always do right for everybody...

Of course realize that when government raises the taxes on gasoline (as Democrats are trying to do both in the NC Legislature and the US Congress), then they HAVE more money to spend, too!
Posted by: Ogre at June 22, 2007 01:33 PM (oifEm)
11
Perhaps you are missing my point. The government HAS more money to spend WITHOUT raising taxes.
The $250 billion cash money gasoline consumers send to OPEC royal families comes back into the hands of government when the royals buy $300 billion of U.S. T-bills. $300 billion is spent and Bush did not raise anyone's taxes.
The question is -- where else is the government going to get that kind of money to spend?
Posted by: T-bill Saudi at June 22, 2007 02:28 PM (wyUSq)
12
Indeed they do -- but they continue to raise the taxes anyway!
It is quite interesting that you point out how the cash is laundered through the Saudi families. It sure would explain why we're so friendly with that country and why Congress refuses to allow oil companies to build more refineries or drill for oil in America...

Chuck Norris for President!
I think our next president needs to be someone with courage and guts. I think it needs to be someone who is really confident about his positions and won't just straddle the fence on issues to get more votes. I think Chuck Norris could fit that bill, don't you? Here's some of his
campaign promises. He would:
Require members of Congress to work out on the Total Gym 15 minutes each day – or else they can't vote on anything.
Have you seen many of those Congressmen? There's going to be a lot of people NOT voting if this rule is put into place. Of course, there might be a lot of passing out and heart attacks, too...
Give a presidential pardon to Â… no one, ever. Baretta was right in the '70s, "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time. Don't do it!"
Heh, heh. See? Confidence and leadership!
Require Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to personally pay for national, comprehensive medical coverage for every American (or meet me in the Rose Garden).
That ought to shut up the limousine liberals who want everyone ELSE to pay for everything. Well, probably not, but still...
Convey my plan for world peace to the United Nations: taking the governor of California with me on our "kick butt and ask questions later" USO world tour.
Well, if we can't get out of the UN, we can at least make them officially useless.
Replace Letterman, Leno or Conan once monthly, since stand-up comedy is what most governmental officials do anyway.
Unfortunately, he's not really running -- but then again, most of the people who are best qualified are too smart to want to run. Go on,
read the rest!

Amnesty Will Survive!
President Bush says:
I believe we can get it done.
Yes, Bush really believes that he can work with the anti-American Senators on capital hill to force amnesty through the Senate, despite a vast majority of Americans who simply do not want amnesty for illegal alien invaders.
Remember, Harry Reid, John McCain, Ted Kennedy (and other Democrats) all are looking forward to cramming amnesty down our throats, whether you want it or not.
I didn't believe the news reports for a minute that claimed this bill was dead for the year. This bill isn't dead until the Senators leave Washington for the year.
Why am I so opposed to the bill? Because I like America the way it is. I like the unique American culture -- what's left of it -- and I think it should be preserved. I think we have too many people in this country now that don't know anything about the America culture, nor do they want to know about it. This continued influx of illegals is nothing but bad news for the country that used to be known as America.
As I've mentioned, I think America is dead -- at least the unique country that was founded upon freedom and hard work. This amnesty bill is just the last nail in the coffin. If that last nail can be kept out, there's at least a tiny glimmer of hope for America. Unfortunately, I still believe the bill is a done deal, it's only a matter of when.

The only "Ogre" worth mentioning is the singer for the great _Canadian_ band Skinny Puppy. Yep, those heroin-fuelled Godless Canucks done beat you to the name. Why don't you call yourself something else, like "Right-Wingnut?"

Oh, and I forgot to add: Canada's fought your country in wars twice, and we won both times. Neato little fact for ya. Now, of course, we don't bother with a military: we let you spend all your tax money to protect us while we spend our "funny money" (which will be worth more than yours by the end of 2007, thanks to your idiot President and his war) on more worthwhile things, like universal health care. After all, you poor hillbillies have got to protect us: what choice do you have? ;-) But at least Canadians aren't trying to enter your country illegally at the border like the Mexicans: I'd say it's Canada that has to worry about keeping your increasingly disaffected Blue-Staters out! You don't want the Mexicans -- we don't want YOU!

This great country is under attack from many different angles.I love my country ,does that mean I am a right wing nut too?It sounds like some are just jeolous and hate this country.Alot of people hate themselves ,hate their lives,so they project their hate politically so they can feel good about themselves.Very misguided.

Indeed, Peter, this skinny puppy fellow seems rather angry at, well, something. I'm not sure if he's angry because I happen to have the nickname of Ogre, or if because Canadians are spending billions on healthcare. Or maybe they're just mad that some Americans cross the Canadian border legally.
Perhaps we should tell him that Canada is about to be assimilated in the North American Union along with the country formerly known as the United States of America AND Mexico...
Thanks for stopping along, both of you!
