I have always loved his films. It seems that all the really great actors are either dead or long ago retired.

I think movies went the way of music -- it used to be that it took time, talent, and effort to get recorded, or to make a movie. However, these things were so popular that now it takes almost no time, clearly no talent, and almost no effort -- so everyone who wants to has a music video, tape, or movie.
It is sad, because people like John Wayne were certainly one in a generation, if not one in a century.
