All Politicians Stink (except Dems)
At least according to Bob Geary,
Indy Week, a supposed "independent" newspaper in Durham, NC. I imagine that anyone who disagrees with the total socialist line in Durham might be considered an independent -- Durham is rather proud of it's nickname of "Berkeley of the East."
In his article, Mr. Geary claims that the only reason that Democrats keep winning in North Carolina is because the Republicans have bad ideas. At first, he does mention that nationally, the Democrats have no ideas at all. Then he complains that the North Carolina Republican ideas are bad -- but the Democrat ideas are okay.
He complains that the Republicans don't support raising prices on houses in Wake county by at least $3,000 each so the government can have more money. He complains that the Republicans actually want to reduce spending by government, thinly veiling in the old "How are they going to pay for that?" rhetoric.
He likes increases in gas taxes because he thinks it's only a little bit. He's glad the Democrats got a lottery in place so that poor people might have a chance. He outlines one of the smoke and mirrors games that the Democrats play to shift tax money from the county to the state and back again -- and has no problem with that one -- whose net result will be an increase of $1 to $2 billion in increased revenues to the state.
Mr. Geary may write for an alleged "independent" newspaper and try to appear to be a moderate stuck in the middle, but he clearly support the Democrat platform of more: more taxes, more government, more control. The only reason you can't see the Republican plans, Mr. Geary, is because you don't want to.

"He's glad the Democrats got a lottery in place so that poor people might have a chance."
That's an incomplete sentence. The rest of the thought should have read, "...to pay extra taxes to the government." The lottery is, as many have called it, a tax on stupidity.

Yeah, as opposed to the Republicans, who have really been slimmin' down the ol' guvmint over the past couple years, haven't they.
Hey, is that a plank in your eye?

TF - indeed, the lottery is a tax on stupidity. I should support that...
And Scarshaped -- I was specficially referring to North Carolina, as does the author I refer to -- the Republicans have NEVER been control in North Carolina -- literally EVER. This state has never once in it's entire history ever had a completely Republican government.
None of the current problems or issues facing the North Carolina government can be blamed on Republicans, beacuse they've had no say in how the government operates or what they do. Zero.

I'm just saying, be careful what you wish for, because you just might get an insolvent militaristic police state.

Gee, that's what the Democrats are building in North Carolina...and yes, the Republicans in Washington. I wasn't providing my answer here, I was just pointing out that the author of the opinion piece was trying to blame Republicans for something that they could not do. He could have just as easily, and with as much sense, blamed the nazi party and the libertarian party in North Carolina for North Carolina's troubles -- even though both those parties are illegal in NC.
