Somehow, that just seems to fit all too well. Maybe the cat should be a little fatter and lying down more...

NaNoWriMo
There's still time to join up! 11 days until
National Novel Writing Month begins.
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Come on, join up if you've ever once thought about writing a novel. It's pressure-filled, but it's absolutely loads of fun! If you can write blog entries, you can write a novel. Just start it up and see where it goes. And if you don't have time, that's all the more reason to get it started NOW.
And you can even make donations and help build children's libraries in Vietnam. Oh, and my novel, as I write it, will appear here.

OH, that's half the fun! You just write, write and write! No worries about plot, storyline, or even proofreading! Just write! It's a lot a fun, especially when you get done.

Republican Approval Numbers
*** Update: Big Dog
weighs in, and so does
William Teach.
Just before the election, Republican approval numbers are down. It's the end of the world, according to the liberal media and the national socialist Democrat party. They think that they will take control of Congress in a few weeks. In a way that would be good, but only as long as Bush sharpens his veto pencil. I love it when there's gridlock and NO laws and taxes get passed.
However, the Republicans have a great opportunity to get the country behind them. This could be a perfect "October surprise" and would push Bushs' poll numbers way up. Sure, Democrats would be mad, the media would be fuming, but those groups already hate Republicans and Bush, so there's no point in appeasing them.
Yesterday, two Border Patrol agents were sentenced to jail for having the audacity to attempt to enforce the border of America. Seriously. They went to jail because they chased down an illegal immigrant drug dealer. If Bush wanted a huge Republican victory in a few weeks, he'd make this speech this morning:
My fellow Americans. I have called this press conference today to make an announcement of great import. There has been a miscarriage of justice and I am here to correct that problem. Two good citizens of this country have been wrongly prosecuted by our justice system, and I am here to remedy that.
Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos were working to defend our National border when an illegal alien from Mexico attacked them. When the illegal alien tried to escape prosecution by our judicial system, the agents tried to apprehend him. The agents were then, somehow, arrested and charged with crimes themselves by Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof.
According to Ms. Kanof, Border Patrol agents are not supposed to chase or apprehend illegal aliens who break U.S. law. Seeing as how the U.S. Attorney's office is under my control, Ms. Kanof, you may consider yourself fired. I will not abide by attorneys under my control that refuse to uphold the laws of this country.
In addition, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos are hereby pardoned completely by me. They are good agents who were attempting to enforce our borders and no one who attempts to secure the southern border of this United States will be prosecuted by the justice department on my watch. Instead, I order that these men be offered their jobs back as Border Patrol agents. And from this day forward, I want all border patrol agents to know that they will not be arrested nor stopped in any way from defending this country from a foreign invasion.
Raven
agrees.
Yeah, I know it's not going to happen. I can dream, right? Again, the liberals might go nuts, but they're already nuts. I absolutely guarantee that the approval numbers for Bush and Republicans would go up overnight. And sure, Mexico might be annoyed, but I really, really don't care.
America is lost. We are way down the slope of decline from a once-great American civilization. We have surrendered. We have lost. America is no more.

I live in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. Sticking to my philosophy of always voting for the most Conservative candidate, I will be forced to vote Republican, thought he Independence party candidate has a better chance of winning.
Sadly, I will likely be living in the district represented by the first Muslim Congressman when the elections are finished. Have you heard about this guy? He is a former member of Farakan's Nation of Islam, and has had at least one fund raiser thrown for him by CAIR.

At least you have a choice. My ballot for Congress says "Select One"
[ ] Patrick McHenry
That's all.
And yes, I've heard of the Muslim. It's all part of their plan to take over the country from within. If they can elect enough Muslims, they can force people to accept Sharia law and end the war on terrorist Muslims. He's bad news, and I can't actually believe there's enough people to elect him in that district.
Posted by: Ogre at October 20, 2006 05:52 PM (oifEm)

We shall see. There have been people calling in to the various local Conservative talk radio shows I listen to stating that they have scores of people with every imaginable democratic campaign sign in their yards except this guy. I have noticed a few, but many of the flaming liberals with dozens of signs in their yard are conspicuously missing their Keith Ellison sign.
It's possible that Tammy Lee, the leftist Independence party candidate could win. Some people are suggesting that Alan Fein (the R) withdraws in order to give Lee a better chance of winning, though I think it is too late to take his name off the ballot, so even in the off chance he goes for it, it wouldn't do a lot of good.

I thought the Muslim was a done deal. I didn't think anyone had ANY chance of beating him. That's good to hear that he might not win.

Tax Collections Up: Raise Taxes!
Yes, the receipts for taxes
are up. The people of North Carolina have paid $85 or $90 million MORE than the state anticipated receiving. The state literally has more money than they thought they would have (2 percent more).
So, instead of celebrating, what's the result from the Democrat-controlled North Carolina General Assembly? They plan on raising the state sales tax by a half-cent and raising income taxes next year. How much money does it take to run a state controlled by Democrats? MORE. Always MORE.

Enforce the Law? Go to Jail!
This absolutely stinks. You may remember
reading here about the border patrol agents that were put on trial for, literally, chasing after a felonious drug dealer who had crossed the US-Mexico border illegally. Well, they've been sentenced -- 11 and 12 years in prison for DARING to attempt to enforce the border. What a pile of you-know-what. Every border patrol agent in the country should get up tomorrow and walk off the job.
But they won't. Know why? Because since they will go to jail for actually enforcing the law, they cannot enforce the law. So what will they do? Anything else they want to -- and we will still pay them. Wanted: Border Patrol agents to sit around and do nothing. Government job, benefits, and pay.
Tell me again how I'm supposed to have hope for this country. If we had a leader with any guts, he'd stand up and pardon these two, then fire the people in the border patrol (they work for him) that started this crap. There is no justice in America, and there ARE NO BORDERS. America is indeed gone.

It's amazing that virtually nobody in Congress wants to enforce the borders. They should put up a 2,000 mile fence. Unfortunately, it just shows that the corporations have the politicians in their back pocket. They don't want to get rid of the cheap labor.

Mecklenburg County Commissioners ask permission to ban Freedom of Association
Oh, you didn't read that little headline in the news? It's completely true and 100% accurate. The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners voted
unanimously to ask the North Carolina Legislature if they could have permission to overturn the U.S. Constitution and ban the freedom of association in Mecklenburg. Instead, the ruling council wants permission to decide who is allowed to associate with whom.
Since the council is completely unaware of the laws of the land, here's Article I, Section 12 of the NC Constitution:
The people have a right to assemble together to consult for their common good
And in case anyone cares any more, here's a part of the US Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble,
So no, Mecklenburg County, you absolutely cannot have permission to
ban people from freely associating with one another, ESPECIALLY on private property. If you want that power, head to Cuba or North Korea.
People of Mecklenburg, realize that the vote was unanimous. In other words, there is not ONE County Commissioner who believes that you should have the freedom to associate with those whom you want to. We had freedom once. Clearly we have it no longer.

Marine Joke
I'm not sure if this one is true or not, but it should be. It's got to be my all-time favorite come back line:
It is a portion Of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?
GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers.
GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?
The radio went silent and the interview ended.

I guess I'm the only one who hasn't had any major issues with my Sprint service. One thing I've noticed is that not everybody in the chain gets the same information. It surprises me that you didn't get more accurate information from the official Sprint stores.
Sprint doesn't cancel accounts by email. They want to convince you to stay with them, so you have to talk to an actual person. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I think that's the only way to get the resolution you need.
As far as the equipment goes, it's possible that the stores don't take internet orders back. I would get an RMA number from the person you talk to when you cancel your account so that you can send your phones back.
Sounds like a horrible experience. I guess I've just been lucky that my only major problem with them was a misunderstanding on a rebate.

I have Nextel and can back up the lack of service. I really like standing still and watching the bars on the signal display go from full to "No Service" and back over and over again every second. I didn't deal with an official company store, but had much better service thank goodness. As soon as my contract is up I might consider using Nextel prepay, but only since I use about 5 minutes total every month with the phone and my Dad has one from work. As for the phones, all I can say is they are over priced and even more so at the stores than others.
I have used Cingular and still recommend it from my use. I always had signal and they had good customer service when needed. That could be due to the service being offered through CTC.

I talked to my neighbors here, and they all have AllTel. I think I'll try them next, but thanks for the tip, Arbitrator. If AllTel doesn't work, I'll give Cingular a try!

The phones you need for the best service with Sprint are Sanyo. If you didn't get a Sanyo phone, your service won't be as good.
With the plan you chose, you should have free roaming. So, if you set your phone on automatic, you should get a signal. If you don't, chances are you won't have much luck any other carrier.
Due to the merger with Nextel, Sprint is still trying to update all the old Nextel and 3rd Party dealer stores. It sounds like you went to one of those. I hate those stores with a passion.
If you still need help, send me an email. I have some contacts for you.

Senator Mike DeWine
This week Wictory Wednesday presents
Senator Mike DeWine from Ohio for re-election to the US Senate. He is currently
trailing Democrat challenger Sherrod Brown.
He supports the tax cuts and understands the best way to grow an economy is to bring business out from under the stifling arm of government taxation and regulation. Ultimately ever tax or regulation is paid for by the consumer.
Senator DeWine understands that affordable health care doesn't mean that the government pays for and runs the system. Even Europe is moving away from such economically naïve models. A strong health care system requires that the consumer be in control, not some bureaucrat hundreds or thousands of miles away.
National security has never been more important. While terrorists attacks continue overseas, nothing has been successful in the United States since 9/11 and the Anthrax attacks. Senator DeWine understands that it requires strong intelligence agencies, a military with the necessary tools, and law enforcement who treats the problem as warfare against the citizens of this country, not as some petty criminal gang like the Crips.
Please consider supporting Senator DeWine's re-election.
This has been a production of the Wictory Wednesday blogburst. If you would like to join Wictory Wednesday, please see this post or contact John Bambenek at jcb (dot) blog [at] gmail {dot} com. The following sites are members of the Wictory Wednesday team:

Republicans in the NC Senate?
Once again, Republicans in North Carolina are working hard to get control of the North Carolina Senate. The Democrats have controlled the Senate with an iron fist for over 100 years. The Socialist Democrat
Charlotte Observer claims that the Republicans "face long odds," primarily because of spending. That's not quite true. The real opposition is the Democrats and gerrymandering.
The Democrats have ensured they will retain control of the Senate, barring something short of a pitchfork uprising. The Democrats who drew the district lines selected their constituents to ensure they would retain power. They are honestly not interested in what the people want -- they do not want, nor do they have any desire to represent people -- they want power, plain and simple.
Once again, I will point out recent election results as concrete proof: In 2004, the most recent election for the Senate, 3,118,224 people voted for a Senator. 48.9% voted for Democrats. 49.6% voted for Republicans (46,960 voted Libertarian or other). If it were truly a Democracy, there would be 25 Senators from each party (or 24 D, 25 R and 1 L). However, there are THIRTY Democrat and only 20 Republican.
And if you needed further evidence of the massive disconnect between the North Carolina Senate (D) and the people, the Republicans have a platform that is strongly opposed by the Democrats -- and between 60 and 90 percent of the people of North Carolina support the various Republican points:
Republicans want to allow votes on proposed constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage, toughen eminent domain rules and limit government spending. Poll after poll shows the vast majority of people support those positions and Democrats are strongly opposed to them.
No, in North Carolina there is clearly not government by the people or for the people. It is government by the Democrats for government. Find a way to get Republicans elected (because it's illegal to vote for anyone but Republicans or Democrats in this state), and that will change.

Do you think the redistricting that happened not long ago will also have an impact?
Posted by: michele at October 19, 2006 04:50 AM (chOjH)
2
Redistricting that recently happened ensured that Democrats would retain power. There is NO competition for North Carolina Senate seats. The balance of power now is 30-20. In the 50 races, I haven't checked, but I would guess that maybe one or two will be close. A HUGE shift in power would be if the Republicans gained 3 seats. Yes, the deck is stacked.
And Irina, yes, the people are to blame. But in many cases, they have no choice. For example, in my Senate race, I have literally no choice. I get to vote for the incumbent or no one. Write-ins are not allowed.

Robert Jensen and Men Being Men
Robert Jensen,
writing in the San Francisco Chronicle, says that
Guys should evolve beyond masculinity
The article is a bit long, but the author is also very wrong and way off base in many cases. He starts out with
It's hard to be a man; hard to live up to the demands that come with the dominant conception of masculinity, of the tough guy.

The writer of the article, Jensen, is obviously every butch feminist's idea of what they would like a man to become -- that would play out just fine for them until the going got suddenly tough and they needed him to display his subdued masculine side, then it would be, "You're the man, DO something!"
In Jensen's case I'm afraid he wouldn't be much help -- right in the middle of shaving, in his scramble to remember what a man would do he'd probably cut an artery in his leg and add to the problem...

What an excellent post Ogre. You take Ms. Jensen, oops I meant (not) Mr. Jensen to task in such an effective way. He forgets the very real physiological differences between men and women- the scientific facts that are so obvious to most of....these differences, I believe, are meant to be a part of some bigger picture none of us have much control over. I do know this: Men and women are not equal nor should they be. We are different, thankfully. We compliment one another through our differences though and this is what has kept humnakind alive.

I agree, Raven. We simply are different and will always be. If men and women cease being different, I think that will be the point at which humankind ceases to exist.

I don't want to be like men. LOL...big hairy things that you all are lol!!! Being a woman is not a bad thing and being a real man is not bad either!
People need to stop trying to change what Mother Nature gave us.
I linked to your post here too.

Well, I hate to say it, but the *spit* fwench *spit* do have a saying for this that is actually ***GASP!!*** correct:
VIVE LA DIFFE'RANCE!!! (Yeh, OK, so I had to add the accent there, sorta)
Frankly, any "man" who capitulated to Jensen's vision for modern masculinity isn't worth a plugged nickel. Real women like REAL guys!

Real women are not threatened by real men either.
They respect their guy, they love him and honor him...they worship the ground they walk on. Same with real men- in their feelings towards gals!
Kat it would be interesting to read something about the religious view on this topic...***hint hint***
LOL

Oh, hell, Raven... You just *HAD* to suggest that, didn't you? [banging head against the wall]
You realize I'm TRYING to memorize Romans, chapters 5-8, right?
*sigh*
OK, hon, I'll see what I can do... It won't be up until tomorrow, though (assuming I can gather all my scattered thoughts to post something coherent...)

I think the last part of the post (not the John Wayne part) does hit the religious view quite squarely on the head, if you ask me.

Jensen gives us journalists a bad name. I think we might have a great spot in Gitmo for him.

*sigh* OK, I'm awake. Let me get the Munchkin to school, and I'll see what I can contribute to this conversation...
... Actually, I think I have the beginnings of a framework. God does that to me sometimes; I think it's one of the methods He uses to kick my butt! ;-)
OK, I'll TB to ARS and here (Oh, wait, munu still isn't doing TBs is it?), but keep your eye on CHC about midday.

I had sooo many strong reactions to this post I delayed doing work to respond to this. My first reaction was "Boy, he's trying to go further than feminists in emasculating men."
The more I read the more I reacted and the angrier I got. He wants everyone to forget centuries of biological evolution, social acculturation, and biological realities. In essence he wants men to become feminized metrosexuals.
The next thought was "oh, he's from SF, where everyone tries to top the other person on how far to the left they can go."
Finally, he wants men to become more feminized, then he should just submit to a transgender operation and get his particulars cut off so he can be a little closer to me. Lets see how enlighted he will truly be as a result of walking in my shoes!

Worse, he's not from SF, he was just writing for them. Instead, he's in Texas TEACHING journalism. That should be the scariest part.
And yes, he doesn't like thousands of years of history, so he wants to completely rewrite the world and all of society according to him. And there's a lot of people who agree with him...but there's lots, like me, that will tell him where he can stuff his rewriting of culture.

We Starved, He Called It Paradise
North Korea has been in the news quite a bit lately. They may be trying to start WWIII, or they may just be doing as they usually do, rattling sabers, hoping for a little attention from the world, and, of course, some cash or new trading partners. Of course, China and Russia are on their side, not allowing the U.N. to take any actual actions against them, other than calling Il Jong a "meanie."
But have you ever wondered what it was really like there? Do you have a clue what sort of life the average person lives over there in North Korea? Do you want to know the logical conclusion of the state running all production (as the Democrats seem to honestly desire here in the U.S.)?
A person who has escaped the "paradise" of socialist utopia (the same one Democrats envision in America) has written a book about it. Head on over and read a little about how wonderful socialism really is -- and this is the result that socialism has ever single time it's tried.

That reminds me of my grandfather who told me something an Eastern European said during the WW II: I had nothing and everything was taken by the Russians.

People who have only seen American and (relative) freedom have no idea what goes on in socialist, communist, and military dictatorships.

National Unions support Jim Black
Jim Black, in case you didn't know, is the current Democrat Speaker of the House in North Carolina. He is being investigated by various federal offices and departments for corruption and fraud. Close friends of his have been arrested and found guilty of fraud. He has been found guilty of violating various campaign laws (although since the Board of Elections and the Attorney General are Democrats, he faces no punishment).
He has a "legal defense fund." He is accepting contributions from "political groups," but not lobbyists (especially those lobbyists that have been convicted of fraud). Now he is accepting money from the Teamsters Union for his legal defense. Of course, he's already gotten $30,000 from the taxpayers of North Carolina, so an additional $5,000 from the Teamsters doesn't seem like much, does it?
While allies of Jim Black claim they're not tainted by his numerous power scandals, you are known by the company you keep. Jim Black is now in the pockets of the national Teamsters Unions. Also, as Jeff Taylor notes, if you want to buy some influence in Raleigh and not have anyone know about it, just send money to Jim Black's legal defense fund. It's completely secret, and you can literally donate whatever amount of money you like. Keep that in mind as you vote in North Carolina this year. Democrats claim they will retain the embattled Jim Black as speaker, and he may owe his job to Unions.

Corruption runs VERY deep in politics. I'm telling you, the only way this can be cleaned up is by starting over.

Illegal Aliens and Gang Crime
by IndependentConservative
In case you didnÂ’t know, Nashville is not just the Grand Old Opry. Walking the streets of Nashville youÂ’d think you were in any other city. And just like any other, Nashville is now trying to reconcile the issue of illegal aliens and the gangs many of them are members of.
This was a Sunday front page (below the fold) story in NashvilleÂ’s paper The Tennessean. ItÂ’s a Liberal rag, so even getting this below the fold on the front is a shock.
