Conservatives in NC General Assembly?

What is Conservatives were in control in the North Carolina General Assembly? I'm not talking about Republicans or Democrats here, but conservatives, who might happen to be Republicans or Democrats. Democrats have controlled the General Assembly, well, forever (Republicans have NEVER had control of the Senate and only one had control of the Governorship and the House). So what would be different if people elected conservatives? Chad Hinton writes about this idea in the Summer edition of the Conservative Citizen.

The biggest change would be in the leadership. Jim Black, who has ruled the House with an iron fist, and who may be taken away in handcuffs for breaking the law, would not be in charge. In the Senate, Marc Basnight has controlled that chamber for 14 years. The budget there gets written by about 3 people and everyone else is expected to vote on it. But with a conservative leader, the Senate might have rules that are actually fair, instead of having bills that the Democrats don't like "lost" in committee hearings.

The leadership would also help determine the rules for each chamber. Last year the Democrats in the Senate decided that they could suspend the rules for any period of time they wanted to. They also changed the rules for getting legislation OUT of committees. In addition, conservatives have suggested a rule that would require a waiting period before a budget vote. Currently the budget appears and is expected to be voted on within hours -- giving those who did not write the bill (everyone but the leadership) no possible way to actually READ the bill. Conservatives have suggested that they would require giving legislators enough time to actually READ bills before they vote on them -- what a concept.

Think it's time to vote for conservatives yet?

New Renter!

The renter is about to leave, but not before I get a chance to mention him! This week, Full Metal Photography has been linked to in the upper left corner. Now there's some REALLY great pictures over there, so if you've got a few moments, head on over and take a peek.

There's also a story about a "confrontation" regarding taking photos of allegedly "banned" things. He very eloquently makes the point about freedom of speech and provides advice for other photographers of "sensitive" items.

NC Property Rights

From the NC Property Rights Coalition:

The fight to protect our property rights is not over.

Unfortunately, during this year's short session the legislature refused to hear a proposed constitutional amendment to protect our property from eminent domain abuse. Instead, they passed a law that simply doesn't give us the protection we need.

Rather than allow the people to vote on this important amendment, the legislature sent it to a committee to die.

Instead of giving us constitutional protection that will stand the test of time, they passed a law that can easily be undone by a future legislature.

Make no mistake: North Carolina needs an amendment to the state constitution to ensure that government cannot take our private property for economic development purposes.

This fight is not over; it has only just begun.

We Need Your Help: There are three ways you can help with our ongoing efforts to protect private property rights in North Carolina:
1. Sign Our Petition: If you have not already done so, please sign our petition calling for a state constitutional amendment to protect our property from eminent domain abuse. Click here to sign the petition.
2. Make a Contribution: We need your financial support to ensure that we are able to effectively communicate our message and make a strong stand for private property rights. Every donation, whether $5.00 or $5,000.00, is important. Please click here to make a donation.
3. Tell Five Friends: There is strength in numbers. Please take a few minutes to tell five of your friends about this organization. Encourage them to sign our petition, and encourage them to join our email list. Click here to use our tell-a-friend form.

We need your help to protect the private property of all North Carolinians. Please take the time to help us with this important effort by doing these three simple things.

Sincerely,
Kieran Shanahan
Chairman

Jim Black's Lies

Did you know that Jim Black, Democrat Speaker of the NC House is now saying that everyone's lying about his campaign breaking the law? I wonder if he's claiming the judges that keep finding that his campaign has been breaking the law are liars, too?

Enemies Within

This blog's primary focus is on North Carolina politics and North Carolina government. However, sometimes world and national events really become so important that they require extra coverage. Such is the case as some people are becoming more aware of where and how the enemies of America are showing up.

Vox Day notices where the enemy lies:

The only responsibility of the West is to its native inhabitants, to demand that those non-Westerners who wish to reside in it will live by its standards, by the cultural norms of the West. Likewise, Western leaders have a duty to recognize the enemy as all of those who have declared themselves to be at war with the nations of the West and to give them what they have demanded, regardless of whether they live in Baghdad, Boston or Buckinghamshire.

Bryan also notices:
Jihad is being taught to children every day, right here in America.

Sure, I want peace and happiness, too. However, hiding one's head in the sand is not a recipe for peace. The enemy is here, it only takes for us to notice and do something about it.

Universal Health Care

A number of different people, mostly rabid socialists in the Democrat Party, are complaining that this year the Democrat-led North Carolina General Assembly didn't pass a Constitutional Amendment making health care a universal "right." The folks at KOS are even claiming

Just as with education, health care is a right that all North Carolinians have inherent to their being - it is not a privilege bestowed upon those with the most money.

So let's take a look at what is meant by a "right."

The idea of "rights," when applied to people and government, is that people have something that cannot be taken away. The way the government was set up in America, we have rights that are specifically enumerated that are not granted by government, but instead are not to be taken away by government.

For example, I have a right to freedom of speech. Government cannot take that right away without violating the Constitution. In order for me to express that right, government need do nothing. They are not required to provide me with a megaphone or soap box. I have the right and it infringes on no one for me to exercise that right (if it does infringe on someone else, it's beyond the scope of my exercise of that right).

All the rights secured in the Constitution are the same -- they require nothing of government or of anyone else. I can be secure in my home and no one has to provide me with anything. I can not testify against myself and no one has to DO anything.

However, if health care is found to be a "right," then how is that possible without someone doing something? In order for me to get health care, SOMEONE has to provide it. Even in it's most basic form, some trained person (a doctor) needs to spend their time and effort to attend to my needs. If I have a "right" to that service, then I do not have to pay for it -- it's my right. Therefore, the doctor is required to provide that service -- free of charge. If it's my right, he is not able to NOT provide the service, no matter what I pay.

That's wrong, plain and simple. That requires slavery, whether you want to admit it or not. That's in clear violation of Article I, Section 1 of the NC Constitution that says

We hold it to be self-evident that all persons are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, the enjoyment of the fruits of their own labor, and the pursuit of happiness.

If someone is forced to provide health care, they are not able to enjoy the fruits of their own labor. Then again, in a socialist state, that's all allowed and permitted -- and that is the face of today's Democrat party in North Carolina.

Another Jim Black Conviction

Another nail goes in the coffin of Democrat Speaker of the NC House Jim Black's political "career." Meredith Norris was found guilty of violating the state's lobbying laws. She was, in fact, working for a lottery company while employed by Jim Black.

Of course, Democrat Jim Black has not announced his resignation. Instead, he continues to claim that he didn't do anything wrong. If you believe Mr. Black, he was innocent as the Virgin Mary, yet everyone around him was guilty. And no, I'm not saying it's guilt by association, I'm saying Black was running the whole show, he just won't admit it.

The investigation continues (and note that all these recent convictions have come as a direct result of the investigation of Jim Black, NOT because the other people were being investigated.)

Future Computer

This week's host for The Tarheel Tavern, Another Blue Puzzle Piece, provided a theme:

"the future". That can include predictions, prescriptions, hopes, dreams, near future, far future, middlin' future, back to...etc.

Anxious to not disappoint, I set to work on finding an image that would fit the theme this week. Just searching for "future," however would be just boring. So I tried "Ogre Future." Here is what I found:

Huh? In case you're wondering how in the world OGRE returned that picture, it's because ...muttered the Ogre posted that picture back on January 31, 2005. While this picture is actually a fake, it's still pretty darn funny, if you ask me. Can you imagine tech support?

"Yes, I'm having trouble with this application."
Tech Support: "I'll need you to turn the computer's steering wheel 20 degrees down bubble."

[T]his nation is at war with Islamic fascists.

President George W. Bush

Ah, that's good stuff.

Meanwhile, in London,

Harris Bokhari, a spokesman for the Muslim Association of Britain, said the group was asking mosques to urge worshippers to report any racial attacks.

Sure, go ahead and do that. But you want me to respect you even just a little? How about you moron Muslims URGE WORSHIPPERS NOT TO ATTEMPT TO BLOW UP AIRPLANES? How about you ask worshippers to REPORT any others who are plotting to blow up airplanes?

Yes, I know. That isn't going to happen is it? Once again, it's us or them, whether you want to admit it or not.

We've Got Prizes!

Yesterday I mentioned a News Photo Game. The idea is to send your modified pictures to Reuters and AP and attempt to get them published. Now Murray has offered a prize to anyone who can get a picture published. The key is to get the picture published with the Garden Gnome visible somewhere, somehow.

Once again, if you need help with the basics, Harvey explains how to get started. For more "authenticity," blogless Dr Dan H. provides another suggestion:

Just a hint to make the photoshopped photos more believable: take the exif information from a picture taken by a digital camera (example below) and add this to the faked image you send in.

Reuters might, just might have staffers looking for exif data that says "photoshop" by now, so it is perhaps wise to give them something plausibly real to look at.

Or than again, maybe not...

EXIF data:

"News" Photo Game

By now nearly everyone has seen at least one example of staging or photoshopping the pictures from the Middle East (If not, go here). It's propaganda, plain and simple. But I think one BIG thing has been missing from these propaganda pictures:

Garden_GnomeI.gif

I think it's time the Garden gnome joins the battle. Here's the rules: Take any alleged "real" photograph from one of the propaganda news agencies and then add the gnome. Feel free to use the one above, or grab your own.

If you're having trouble figuring out how, exactly, to make such pictures, Harvey has a step-by-step guide.

Here's a sample that I'll send in:

carwreck1.jpg

Then, when you're done, send it in to Reuters or AP and claim you're an "independent photojournalist" who just snapped this shot. I wonder how many will get published.

Hezbullah and Peace

I know there are some, like Robert P of North Carolina who like to deny that terrorists want Americans dead, but I, and many others, know the truth.

marinesbeiruit.jpg

Some may forget, but I do not.

Look, liberals, you don't like me fighting terrorists. You don't want me spending tax money killing people who want me dead. Well I don't want you spending tax money on welfare, food stamps, and "public" education. When you stop spending my money on crap I don't like, I'll stop supporting spending money on defending our country.

I only hope "The Reckoning" is right when he says that

If we do have to surrender to the Muslims, it will be the hippie liberals who get slaughtered first. All the rest of us hate-mongering, gun totin' conservatives will be too busy defending our families while the hippies are being picked off one by one while they're riding their bikes and picking daisies in the pasture.

Many liberals believe that terrorists are nice people. They honestly believe that all people are good and if we'd just be nice, they'd be nice in return. They believe that since people are good, only society is evil, and therefore incorrect society is what causes evil in people. Therefore, fix society and everyone will be happy. Sorry, they're wrong.

In addition, Robert P seems to think that it is "hatred" to state facts. Sorry, Robert P, facts are not emotional. They neither hate nor love, they just are. It is factual that the Muslims have been fighting non-Muslims for hundreds of years. It's factual that their own religious book requires them to kill non-believers. It is factual that their own religion requires them to take over the world.

Claiming "right-wing hatred" over exposing the facts that you don't like is simply wrong. I don't like the fact that there are so many registered Democrats in North Carolina who vote for socialists. That doesn't make the Board of Elections (where I got that information) "full of hate."

MUSLIM TERRORISTS WANT US DEAD. THEY WILL NOT STOP UNTIL WE ARE DEAD OR WE SURRENDER. We are faced with a choice: kill them or live in dhimmitude. There is no "singing a song" peaceful other option.

Democrats Meet Reality

This year, the Democrat-led North Carolina General Assembly passed a new law to prevent people from freeing making contract for labor. They claimed that it would only help people and would not harm anyone. They call this interference with freedom and liberty a "minimum wage law." Once again, reality crushes Democrat spin.

However, Chicago passed a law making minimum wage $13 an hour (only for certain, evil companies), and now companies are running away from Chicago. Lowes is the latest company to stop development, refusing to sign leases for two large stores they had planned in the Chicago area.

In addition, 20 Wal-Mart stores and at least 2 Target stores have stopped plans to build new stores AND CREATE MORE JOBS in the Chicago area, all of them saying that is was because of the $13 minimum wage law. That's AT LEAST 24 stores that have now been driven out of Chicago because of the minimum wage law. How many thousands of jobs were destroyed by that law?

Sure, some smaller businesses may move in (because the law unfairly only applies to "certain" companies) -- but they can't move into those large locations where these big stores were going to show up -- instead those lots will remain empty. Once again, the hard truth of reality trumps the emotions of Democrats.

Bengals Phone Line

Is it me, or is it rather odd that these two stories appear one after another on the ESPN NFL website?

1. Bengals fans can call a number to report "bad behavior."

2. Five Bengals have been arrested in the past 3 months.

I'm wondering if fans are going to be calling on one another or to report Bengals players...
