Values Voter Debate

There was a debate last night -- did you notice? All Republican candidates for president were invited. Not everyone showed up. Well, it was put on by values voters -- so those who disagreed with their positions, for the most part, didn't show up. Absent, but invited, were: all Democrat candidates and Rudy McRomny-Thompson.

Many questions did circle around Christian values. They asked questions that would have been quite tough for many of those people to answer. I watched part of the debate, but my internet connection got funny towards the second half, so I missed parts.

In short, basically all the candidates agreed with just about all the positions of the Values Voters group. The one exception was Ron Paul -- who was solid and outstanding. Mr. Paul was incredibly consistent -- he supported freedom at all times. When asked who would use government to correct behavior like prostitution, all agreed they would except Paul. When asked about expanding government to do, well, anything, most agreed -- except Paul.

And when it came to the discussion about the Iraq war, everyone agreed that the US needed to stay "until victory is won" -- except Ron Paul. At the same time, Mr. Paul agreed with all the positions of the values voters. Keep that in mind: Ron Paul agreed with all the values of the Christian Values Voters. And Ron Paul can beat Hillary Clinton.

A new entrant was in the race and appeared at this debate -- Alan Keyes. Wow. This guy can talk. I absolutely love to listen to him speak about issues that he's passionate about. I have a couple recordings of his speeches from back in 2000. I even managed to vote for him back in 2000 in the presidential primary (I still have the T-Shirt!) He is powerful and passionate -- I really don't understand why he has so much trouble getting votes. And Keyes really understands the war on terror:

The Islamic fascists are evil, and it is right to defend ourselves against them. But we do not fight them because they are Islamic, or even because they are fascists. We fight them because, by their practice of terror, they prove themselves to be people who have no regard for the fundamental tenets of decent conscience that we believe must be respected when human beings deal with one another, even in war.

If you missed that debate, you did miss some really exciting candidates. Now if we can just find a way to ensure that Rudy McRomney-Thompson don't get elected, things could really improve...

Update: Stop the ACLU isn't so inclined to favor Ron Paul after this debate.

Atkinson to Seek Legislator Votes

June Atkinson, elected to the position of Superintendent of Public Instruction by the Democrat North Carolina Legislature (in direct opposition to the voters of North Carolina) says she will seek another term in the alleged elected position. There's no word on whether she will only campaign in Raleigh for votes from legislators, or if she plans on seeking a majority of votes from citizens of North Carolina.

For those who do not recall, the North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction was one of the last races settled in the 2004 election. After 9 months of legal wrangling, the North Carolina Supreme Court determined that Republican Bill Fletcher received more votes from the people of North Carolina than June Atkinson. However, the Democrat-led Legislature then passed a law that allowed them to select anyone they wanted for any elective office, no matter who the people voted for -- and they, of course, selected the Democrat.

So June is running again. As long as the gerrymandered Democrat-led legislature is on her side, why does she need even one vote from citizens?

Football Announcers

Someone who knows someone PLEASE talk to the NFL announcers. I know many are former players, and many have been hit in the head a lot. But someone has GOT to get them to stop with this line that I hear EVERY week:

Gee, Bob, that defense just can't take this any more. Look how tired they are. They've been out on the field too long, so they're getting tired.

Hey clueless talking heads -- the offensive players they're playing against have been on the field the EXACT SAME amount of time, down to the second! If the defense is tired from being on the field 19 minutes and 3 seconds, why isn't the offense, who has been on the field the exact same 19 minutes and 3 seconds tired, too?

Oh, they just sound like total idiots when they say that.

Arrested for Walking

The other week I posted a list of things you can carry that may get you arrested in America. It appears that I need to make another list, this time one of a list of things that you can do to get you arrested. And no, it wouldn't need to include criminal activities. Just walking down the road is grounds for arrest these days, apparently.

Picture this: If you were walking down a road, minding your own business, and I tried to give you a piece of paper, what would you do? You hadn't broken the law. You were in no danger. You were not dangerous to anyone else. Let's say that you decide to continue walking. Next, 4 of my friends grab you and drag you to the ground. Then we shove you in a car and take you away to a place and hold you there, not allowing you to leave. We search you and take some of your things, including a video camera. After about 6 hours, we throw you out in the street where we are (not where we grabbed you). Keep in mind -- you committed no crime. In fact, I don't even claim you committed any crime. So, is there anything wrong with that scene?

According to the federal government, no -- that's perfectly okay. Well, it's okay as long as I'm federal agent U.S. Marshal Steve Monier, that is.

You see, Lauren Canario was arrested because she failed to obey his orders to not walk on a certain road. Once again, there was nothing illegal -- no one was in danger of anything. The road was safe. But Steve Monier decided he didn't want Lauren to use the road (other people were allowed to use the road, but Steve Monier doesn't personally like Lauren, apparently). Steve Monier also stole Lauren's video camera. Once again, she was charged with NO CRIME -- but they're keeping the camera because they want to.

Welcome to today's America where government federal agents have total control and are accountable to no one.

Hillary Care II, Revenge of the Spurned

Well, Hillary has joined Edwards in support of jailing more people who disagree with them. I wish I were an artist -- here's what I'd draw:

Picture a table with two piles of steaming dog doo on it. To the right of the table stands a worn, tired, hard-working taxpayer. Behind him is a large government goon with a shotgun pointed at his back. The goon is saying, "Pick one now, or else!" At the top is a banner: HillaryCare 2008.

That's an accurate picture of what will happen if Hillary gets elected. She has now said that she will use the force of government to make you buy insurance, even if you don't want it. And if you don't, apparently, you'll either be killed or jailed. Welcome to Hillary's America.

Perhaps the only way America can avoid this forced health care will be with Ron Paul. Could Paul be the only possible candidate who can beat Hillary?

NC Democrats: More Corporate Welfare is Good

It's finally settled. North Carolina Democrats LOVE giving away money to businesses. Yes, Democrats in North Carolina ARE the party of "Big Business." Democrats in the North Carolina General Assembly want to take MORE from people who work in order to give MORE to businesses who do, well, whatever they want.

I previously mentioned that Governor Easley had vetoed a $40 million cash present from the General Assembly to Goodyear. Apparently either Goodyear had bribed enough Democrat politicians, or the Democrats just decided that their royal favor would fall on Goodyear this year. Either way, it was a present for the company for doing nothing. Governor Easley vetoed that bill.

At the time, I and other Republicans pointed out the various things that could have been done with that $40 million (including repairing roads since the road budget was exactly $40 million short this year). Then the legislature went into special session because the Democrats were SO mad at Easley for stopping their cash present. There were debates and dicussions about how much Democrats could spend and cash presents. There were dreamy discussions about how the money could best be spent.

But in the end, the North Carolina Democrats do as North Carolina Democrats do -- they voted to spend EVEN MORE! A quick review:

The Democrats in the General Assembly voted to give Goodyear a cash present of $40 million.
Governor Easley vetoed that as "too much."
The Democrats met in special session and voted to spend $60 million on cash presents to Goodyear AND Bridgestone!
Governor Easley (D) approves.

Democrats LOVE spending your money -- and they would rather give it to private businesses they like than build and repair roads.

Democrats, BDS, and Iraq

Why does the last few months of Democrats talking feel like an Abbot and Costello skit?

Bush: We need to finish this war.

Democrats: We vote to go to war.

Bush: Excellent, let's kill those who want to kill us.

Democrats: No war! Withdraw the troops!

Bush: What?

Democrats: War is bad. No war! Withdraw the troops!

Bush: But you just voted to go to war.

Democrats: That's before we knew you wanted to go to war. Withdraw the troops!

Bush: But...

Democrats: Withdraw, withdraw, withdraw!

Bush: Okay, fine. Let's withdraw the troops.

Democrats: No wait, withdrawing the troops isn't what we want.

Bush: But you just said...

Democrats: No withdrawl! No withdrawl! No war!

Bush: Do you even listen to yourselves?

Children, Government, and Trains

Wow. "Out of the mouths of babes."

The big discussion these days in Charlotte is light rail. The city wants to continue spending more than $8 Billion to build a train set. They, obviously, need enormous piles of tax money to do that. There's an issue on the ballot this fall to reduce a sales tax -- primary because that sales tax was put in place to build a $1 billion train system, but the money hasn't been used for building trains. So today I glance over at the cheerleader for big government, the Charlotte Observer, who occasionally publishes comments from children on issues. Usually they're just uninformed comments, but today's were interesting. They were asked about the trains.

Predictably, the Observer published various opinions, in this case 6 supporting the government trains, 4 opposed. But what's really interesting is WHO supports the trains:

A few samples from the supporters:

The light rail benefits anyone who has to go to uptown.

Sorry, not true.
While aiding in protection of the environment, it provides all citizens an opportunity for a safer and, probably, less stressful commute.

Nope, that's not true, either.
The light rail will reduce the number of cars on the roads, and attract riders because it will be a lot faster than riding in a car.

Wrong and wrong.
Hopefully, voters will take long term growth into account, and realize that implementing the transit system may be the solution Charlotte needs to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

Completely and totally incorrect, proven repeatedly with facts.

A few quotes from those opposed:

The Charlotte light rail system is a great example of an unnecessary, yet huge, expenditure.

Exactly right.
We already have environment-friendly buses. Therefore, we would be wasting money by adding yet another method of public transportation.

Imagine that! Good insight.
If we continue to build the tracks and people don't use them it will be a useless way to spend the taxpayers' money.

Some independent thought there, huh?

Oh, the most interesting part? Those who repeat ideas that are simply completely, factually WRONG are all government (public) school students. Those who show independent thought and point out the true facts are all private school students or home schooled.

Yet more evidence that government schools are just plain wrong.

Taxpayer Bill

taxpayerbill.jpg

I just don't understand why so few others feel this way. It's simply true -- but I guess as long as little Johnny gets to soccer practice on time -- and as long as government lets me keep enough to buy McDonald's, everything is just okay. Either that, or it's just too hard to fight these bastards who want you to work to give them money.

Who's Your Daddy?

Russ Mittermeier is feeling bad. You see, according to him, his closest relatives are dying, and he wants your help. Send cash, please. Oh, and it's okay with Russ if you point guns at people and take their cash to give to him. He really wants to help his relatives.

What's happening to his relatives? Oh, the Ebola virus is killing them. How is he going to save them? Well, he doesn't know, but he appears quite sure that if you send enough money (just keep giving him cash, he'll tell you when he's got enough), that he'll be able to save them. After all, how could you sit there and do nothing while his very family dies all around him?

Who are Russ' closest family and relatives? Oh, they're apes. Not people, apes. Gorillas. That's who Russ wants to save with your money. I'm guessing that Russ had a rough childhood if he honestly believes that his closest relatives are gorillas. Hey Russ, how about you use any money YOU earn to save the animals and leave me alone!

Iran Attacks U.S.

Breaking News (not really): Iran attacks America again. 11 Americans were wounded and 1 was killed. Hey Democrats, is anyone counting all the deaths and injuries caused by Iranians in Iraq? I didn't think so.

I think for every Iranian missile or bomb fragment found or fired in Iraq, America should drop one 2000-lb bomb in Iran. I bet the madman leader of Iran either stops or his people stop him.

Your Mom Did Bad Things

So when a woman goes to prison for, say, robbing a bank and shooting a teller, do we let her go because she has kids? What if a mom is caught breaking into a house and stealing jewelry? Do we pardon her completely just because she has children? Heck, in most cases, doesn't someone get punished MORE if they commit crimes while they have children?

So why does the left love Saul Arellano? Someone needs to take this kid aside (it would be social services, if they were even remotely interested in helping, well, anyone other than themselves) and explain to him:

Saul, I'm very sorry to tell you this, but your mom did some bad things. She broke the law. She took things that didn't belong to her. She hid from the police. And she said that she will continue to refuse to obey the law. So she's being punished. As soon as she agrees to stop breaking the law, she will be able to return to you. But as long as she won't obey the law, she's going to be punished.

Because that's the truth. This kid is so much of a pawn it's not funny. He's being taught by the left to hate America. Great job, Democrats.

Keep in mind his mother is very clear: if she doesn't agree with a law, she is simply not going to obey it -- ever. I have no problem with that position at all. In fact, I do that very thing each and every day. But it's shameful to use a child like this to advance your political cause.

Designated Driver?

You cannot drive drunk, right? There's few left today that would argue that you can drive drunk (I'm not saying there aren't those who are doing it still). However, this is pretty much the worst crime possible. If you're convicted of DUI, there is nothing worse you can do. You will be punished worse than just about anything else. You get massive fines (more than for just about any crime). You will get hundreds of hours (or more) of "community service." And you'll be fired from your job. You'll be looked down on by your community forever. Not for drinking, but for getting caught with a DUI.

People mostly fear this action because of the punishments, NOT because of the fact it's wrong. Therefore, people will do just about anything to avoid getting caught -- including getting underage designated drivers. This man learned well from government -- instead of risking the serious penalties for DUI, instead he took the risk of "reckless endangerment" -- a MUCH less serious crime! He still got 15 days in jail for letting his 11-year old drive, but that's a LOT less than if he had been driving.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this?

Can anyone explain any real crime here? Who was endangered? Who was hurt? Who was at risk of being hurt? I'm sorry, but I can't find a victim here. The only thing close to a "crime" was that a driver with THREE YEARS of experience driving made a wrong turn. And that's 15 days in jail. Have YOU ever made a wrong turn while driving? Do you think you should go to jail for 15 days for it?

It's not dangerous for an 11-year old to drive a car in Alaska -- especially when he's got three years of experience! Anyone want to bet if he can pass the driving test? Why should there be an arbitrary age for children driving?

Newest Dangerous Items

Ah, to be an "American" today. Of course, yes, I realize, there is no longer any such this as "America" or an "American Citizen" -- at least according to the courts and the legislatures of this once-great country, but still. The phrase "Only in America" still seems to apply.

There's a few of things you need to be warned about. There's a few new things that the police consider dangerous weapons. Be aware if you're found carrying any of these new things around, you are highly likely to be thrown in jail without any recourse. Sure, you might get a "trial" some day, but it will be one where the jurors don't know their powers and if you DARE to tell them their powers, the supreme God of the land (the judge) will throw you in jail again. Anyway, on to the latest dangerous things:

New Dangerous Item #1: Salt. If you are found with any quantity of this substance, especially if you spill ANY amount near a policeman, it may cost you $1000 and a night in jail. Oh, and that's not including any punishments that the judges might hand down. So BEWARE! Police in Union City, GA are taking this threat seriously. Do not carry or spill salt near policemen there or be prepared to spend the night in jail.

New Dangerous Item #2: Toy Plastic and Cardboard-Tube Guns -- especially ones that have "BAZOOKA" printed on them in big, cartoon, yellow letters. That's extra-scary. If you are found with one of these large piece of plastic in public, waving it about and pointing it at the sky, you're in trouble. And if you shoot it into the air with silly blue plastic "bullets" and let kids play with the toy, you will be arrested for being dangerous. I suppose if you broke it in half and poked someone with a pointy edge, you could put your eye out.

Dangerous Item #3: Iodine. Yes, that brown stuff that your mother used to put on your cuts is now, according to the DEA, just as bad a heroin. So if you've got a few capsules around that you use to purify water when you camp so you're not killed by microbes, you better consider what's more important to you -- purifying your water so you don't die; or having DEA agents break down your door and throw you in jail for "drug trafficking."

You know, normally I've always been pro-police. But crap like this really makes me dislike the police. Sure, go ahead and claim it's just a few of them -- sure doesn't look that way to me any more.

Government Takes Babies

How would you feel if you were pregnant (or if your wife were) and the government sent you a letter telling you that they'll meet you in the delivery room because they're going to take your baby from you before you even get to see it? That's what happened to Fran Lyon of Northumberland, England. She has been informed that her child will be taken by social services and put in foster care -- it is likely she will never be allowed to even hold her child. Why? Because government says so.

Seriously.

The government talked to a government employee. Then some government people had a meeting. A government employed doctor, without ever seeing or talking to Fran Lyon declared that the baby should be taken from her because Fran was "dangerous" -- even though Fran has never harmed another person in her entire life. The government bureaucrats agreed and voted to take her child away the moment it was born.

The message is VERY clear: do as government says. Government knows all. If you're not government, you shut up or you will be destroyed. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.
