Ban Fat People

It's only logical, at least for Calabasas, CA.

In case you missed it, this is the city that has banned smoking outdoors. Since there is literally zero health or safety reason for banning it outside, the city managed to argue that smoking should be banned "to protect children from bad influences – seeing adults smoking."

That logic is based on the theory that smoking is a bad habit and should not be done by anyone because you're too stupid to know that it's bad for you. The exact same logic can be applied to food. If you eat too much, that's bad for you, and you're too dumb to know that or to NOT eat too much. Therefore we should ban the appearance of fat people in public (based on an idea from Dr. Walter Williams.

Ok, so let's set the banning rules. If there's going to be a law, we're going to have to codify it, aren't we? Let's start the discussion now, so we can get the correct law in place. Should be ban based on BMI index? Should physical appearance be based on height/weight measures? Perhaps there should be a simple list of 5 or 10 "fat items" and then if any person meets the criteria of, say, 5 of the 10 items, they are considered "fat," a bad influence on children, and are not permitted in public. How about a list:

1. Exposed rolls of fat between the pants and shirt or top in excess of 2 inches.
2. Any amount of skin protruding beyond the edge of tightly wrapped clothing in excess of 2 inches.
3. Anyone considered officially "fat" by the official government agency of fat, the CDC.
4. Anyone that has a BMI index exceeding 25.0.
5. Anyone who measures more around than tall.
6. Anyone who cannot wrap a towel all the way around their waist, but can hold the towel in place with their fat.
7. Anyone who eats McDonalds French Fries and Big Macs.
8. Anyone who eats movie popcorn butter.
9. Anyone who eats more than the USRDA of 2,000 calories per day.
10. Anyone whose ankle bones cannot be visibly seen from a distance of ten feet because they're obscured by fat.

So, will that do it? That's what the "Center for Science and the Public Interest" would like to see. After all, they are "proud about finding something wrong with practically everything."

1 I was going to type a long comment but it's hard to type while picking my nose. I think some folks have disgusting habits that I wouldn't want kids to see. Just a moment I have to scratch my...

2 That's it, someone call the appearance police and get him out of public sight!

3 I am personaly waiting for the days from "Escape from New York/LA." When everything considered bad or "unholy" is banned from the US, like salt, red meat, women (unless married), and sugar. Ah, bland food, it will be like the middle ages again.

4 The "Center for Science and the Public Interest" would honestly like to see that. But hey, can I still have my giant Turkey leg?

Posted by: Ogre at March 23, 2006 03:35 PM (/k+l4)

5 If you move to Florida, certainly. That is all they sell down there! What is with them and turkey.

Posted by: Arbitratorofall at March 23, 2006 03:36 PM (5+Jvh)

6 No, you're confused. It's the GOVERNMENT of Florida that is the turkeys. I want the giant Turkey legs from the Renaissance Festival to eat...

7 When I was in Florida some five years ago that is all that was sold by vendors (mainly in Universal Studios). I mean a turkey leg that was as big as my head. Not to brag or insult myself (depends on your humor I guess) but I have a large head.

8 Yup, those are the ones I want! Never saw them in Fl, but I haven't been there in a few years.

9 A lot of things should be banned before smoking outside. #1. The five dollar a gallon perfume worn (evidently to avoid taking a bath) by the fat women of the world. Oop's, is that infringing on someone's rights, or an insult to fat women? LMAO at the stupidity of the people of Ca. Lived in the state several years and hope to never cross the inbound border of the state again. I suspect that more and more people and industry will abandon the communist/queer state soon. One of their (LA)trained firemen just went to work here and there's isn't enough of anything there to get him to go back.

10 I've been saying since the 1980s that the San Andreas fault needs to be mined so we can let CA float on off towards it's natural home, China.

11 Yaa, those legs are the things at the theme parks lately. Not sure why... If I'm too fat does that mean I can't wear a speedo? Like the ones I saw in Key West. ;-) Wonder if that would fit into your 2" rule?

Posted by: vw bug at March 23, 2006 04:45 PM (zqfW3)

12 I guess that could be another rule -- if the clothes you are wearing are completely obscured from view by your rolls...

13 Noooo! Remembering past, at beach, a women wearing a two piece bikini and you could only see the bottom part from behind (claws at eyes in disgust). Now if you will excuse me I have to shower and scrub my hands with bleach.

16 People who are in government aren't happy unless they're doing something.

18 Thanks for the ping, I'm not seeing why it's not working. Maybe the trackback spam filter is grabbing it for some reason.
