Ban this, Ban that, Ban Cellphones in NC.

Another moron, oops, I mean "esteemed college professor" has demanded that the legislature of North Carolina ban cell phone use in the car because it's "not safe."

Dr. Dave Kaber found that talking on the cellular phone lowered their math scores by as much as 20 percent -- evidence that he maintains proves they are distracting.

Yes folks, that's your tax dollars at work -- helping to pay the salaries of people who test things that everyone else on the planet knows is completely obvious.

This "doctor" supported legislation last year that would fine drivers $100 for talking on the phone (no estimates on the net income to the state for that one). But the legislation died in a committee. There's no word on when the ban and fine will be expanded to include French Fries.

1 It's illegal to talk on a cell phone in Chicago... another example of home rule in action.

2 It's for the children, you know.

3 I would think it would be rather dangerous to take a math test while talking on a phone and driving a motor vehicle. But, what do I know.

4 Well, it looks like the legislature of North Carolina agreed. In committee is a the most disgraceful death a bill can die. People really can be quite rude with their cell phone, I get very annoyed sometimes.

5 Have you ever actually TRIED it, Teach?

6 yup. Usually involves counting how many cars go throught the red lights Of course, I have several Bluetooth headsets, so talking and driving is usually not a big deal.

7 Ah, but according to this fellow, using wireless has no effect on the poor driving done by people on the phone, so you should be banned from the roads, too.

8 Well if a wireless is just as bad how about talking to the person who is shotgun?

9 Right, MindFlame. Right after we ban the French Fry eating, we'll get on the banning of children and passengers in vehicles because, well, that's just dangerous.
