Now, it's clear and obvious why the students would favor the bonds. They have been told for years that they need more. They have been told for years that they deserve more. And they've never studied economics, so they don't realize that in order for government to SPEND that $970 million, government MUST TAKE that money away from people who earn it. That's simple, basic economics, and they either don't understand that, or, as is the case with the majority of the voters who supported it: they just don't care.
The numbers I would really love to see (and I'm sure they'd never, in a million years, be published) would show what percentage of people who pay more than $1,000 a year in income taxes voted to support the bonds. I'd like to know how many people who are on welfare voted for the bonds.
There's a reason that landowners used to be the only ones who could vote -- it was their money that was being spent. If you're receiving cash from the government, you shouldn't have any right to vote -- because you're voting to take money from someone else and give it to you.
