That's just the thing--most conservatives don't embrace the free market because they're enamored with it--they embrace it because it works. Many liberals on the other hand, have an emotional investment in their quasi-socialist beliefs--besides, they're intentions are good: isn't that all that counts? Those of us who operate in the real world know better.

Good point -- to the left, government and politics are ruled by emotions, rather than facts and reality. And results are measured by feelings, instead of, well, results!
So if you oppose them, you are mean and not just wrong. How can you argue with that?

Yeah, and that's something else that makes honest political debate difficult--the lefty assumption of bad faith on the part of conservatives. I think a lot of conservatives are willing to grant that there are quite a few liberals who mean well. If they'd do us the same favor, we could talk results and consequences without all the silly name-calling, i.e. "Bush=Hitler", etc. I mean, come on...
