Don't Understand Spanish? You're Fired

And this time, it's in America, not in England (where you get arrested for not understanding a foreign language). This time it was Steve Lyons, from Fox Sports, who was fired for saying,

I don't understand him, and I don't want to sit too close to him now.

This was in response to manager Lou Pinella's saying that Thomas needed to get "en fuego" because he was "frio." So, if you work for Fox Sports, you either learn Spanish or you are FIRED for "racially insensitive comments."

Great job, morons. Is there a non-Mulsim country that speaks English still? I'd like to move there. And although it won't make any difference, you can be sure I'll not be watching any more coverage of Fox Sports of baseball -- and I really like baseball.

1 Right. Now, go to any other country that speaks a language other than English and demand they speak English to you, or that their traffic signs be bilingual -- let me know how far you get. Hint: Not far. The great social experiment is alive and well in the USA, thanks primarily to idiots, and while we go about our ways being socially enlightened, the barbarians are at the gates.

2 Oh, they're not at the gate -- they're inside sitting on the couch, drinking a beer.

3 Heh. I remember a neat little bar over the water in Homestead, back about 25 years ago, where a friend and I were drinking, and watching the owner come out of the back to run some Latinos out of the bar for addressing his bartender in Spanish (like everyone else present, the bartender was a gringo). His solemn and colorfully descriptive message was, essentially, "This is America, we speak English here!"

4 He'd be arrested today for doing that -- that's a so-called "hate crime" any more.

5 Oh, they're not at the gate -- they're inside sitting on the couch, drinking a beer. Culture and language are linked. Ask any linguist.

6 Always have been, always will be. No culture has survived without a national identity which includes a unified language.

8 It's hard to have hope for this country today, that's for sure.

9 I can't understand what he meant by "don't want to sit too close" actually there was always a lot of what he said that I found really stupid or incomprehensible, but still stupidity and not knowing a foreign language is not a valid reason to fire a guy. Because if he goes, then that Barberi chick needs to go too, 'cause she's a whole lot dummer than he is.

10 Apparently not knowing a foreign language IS a valid reason to fire someone. And again, in England, it's a hate crime and you can LITERALLY be arrested because you don't know a foreign language. But we all know why Barberi was hired, and it was not for her sports knowledge.
