Eating to Live, Rather than Living to Eat
Indeed.
Why do you eat? Do you eat because you can? Do you eat because it's "mealtime?" Or do you eat because you're hungry and need food to survive? I certainly do, at times, find myself eating just because I can. Why did I order that 22oz Porterhouse? Because I can.
More often, I don't, however. I know people who feel the need to eat at regular intervals -- not me. I almost never actually get hungry. I've gone as many as 3 days without eating, and still never got hungry (we were really lost in a BIG forest) -- even when we found our way out and to food, we weren't hungry, we just wanted to taste food.
Just think about it next time you're out for a bite. Do you really NEED to finish that super-sized portion? Are you eating just to eat, or are you eating to survive?
