Eminent Domain in NC
Eminent Domain Amendment NOT discussed at yesterday's Rules Committee's meeting...
The House Rules Committee -- the one in which House Bill 878 (eminent domain amendment) is stuck -- met May 1. We have verified that HB 878 was NOT discussed at the meeting. Further, the committee's next meeting date is not yet set.
History of HB 878 (Eminent Domain Amendment)
On March 15, a bipartisan bill to protect our private property from unjust seizure by governments was introduced in the N.C. House. Four days later this bill, HB 878, was referred to the Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House. It is still stuck in that committee.
House Bill 878 has a total of 96 sponsors and co-sponsors. This means that 80% of House members have signed onto this legislation. 80% of House members have sponsored HB 878 -- and yet the legislative leadership has not brought it to the floor for a vote. The bill was not discussed at the Rules Committee's May 1 meeting.

Eminent Domain to take private property for use by other than "government needs", such as Highways, and government buildings will no longer be allowed.
NO taking of your property to build a KMart, Costco, or any other business will not be allowed if you elect Don Cordell for President in 2008. We must stop this stealing of your property so some other business can bring in more tax for the city/county/state/government will cease.
An auto repair business for 30 years in Monrovia, CA was told it was being taken to build Condo's, with railroad tracks right behind the property, and a cemetery across the street. Just the place for families to live. I fought that, don't know the results.
Homeowners in Norwood, OH were ordered to leave their property so the city could allow a Mall to be built by a private contractor, I wrote to officials to register my objections. The home owner finally won in court, only to find $50,000 damage to their home. The mayor of Norwood showed them, you can't fight city hall or you will suffer.
This nonsense is going on all over America, stop this, elect Don Cordell for President in 2008, and I'll protect your private property.

Good ideas, Don!
But unfortunately, we cannot vote for you here in NC -- the Democrats will not permit us to. And I'm not sure the federal government actually has the power to rule on private property issues like takings, either (despite that whole pesky Constitution thing).
Thanks for stopping along!

Maybe you can't vote for me in NC "now", but I do have NC ancestors, starting in Perquimans, and Pasquotank Co's starting in 1690's, those early Quakers, then many of my ancestors came to Guilford Co, starting in 1772. My GGG grandfather was married in the Deep River Monthly Meeting in Guilford Co, in 1798, then all these families moved to Indiana, as the objected to Slavery. But I'm proud of my NC heritage, and history.
If I am elected President I'll stop these self appointed judges from changing the will of the people. Not only that, I'll demand the Supreme Court make 9:0 decisions. If these are the smartest Lawyers in the country, and they can't agree 100% something is wrong with the law. Lets save America for the citizens.

I like that idea -- but getting those 9 to all agree? That's not very likely, if you ask me. Actually, I'm not sure there's ANYTHING that all 9 of those people would agree with. Heck, I bet they wouldn't agree on Saddam's guilt!
I'd absolutely LOVE to see you elected president, however unlikely that would be!
