$179,000 for "Shellfish pollution monitoring" -- from the taxpayer, of course. While legislators are claiming to have cut the budget "to the bone," they're spending tax money to map shellfish water surveys. How much bread could "the poor" buy with $179,000? How much of the $2 Billion tax increase this year was wasted on such programs?
If you dare to get your water from a private well on your own property, the "victory" achieved this year was that you might not be able to drink your own damn water if the state decides it's not "safe" enough for you. They put in new standards, with additional spending for testing and compliance for private drinking wells. Sorry, no freedom for you.
The legislature passed a ban on throwing away trash, calling it a moratorium on landfills. There's no word on whether you should just empty your trash containers on the front lawn of the legislature, or whether you should dump in in the legislative chambers themselves.
They also claimed victory when the legislature, by fiat, declared all school children safer -- because they limited arsenic in treated wood. The fact that this had nothing to do with actual safety, except actually making the wood products LESS safe because they cannot be treated for exposure, is not mentioned.
Oh, and the legislature passed numerous "studies" that will spend piles of cash because they literally have unlimited cash to spend.
So as your freedom decreases and your taxes increase; while there is zero change in the environment, feel free to thank the North Carolina "Conservation" Network. The only thing they are apparently interested in conserving is their own jobs and government spending on themselves.
