Episcopal Political Position

In case you're interested in your organized religion's position on political issues -- the Episcopal Diocese of central NC has gone on record as wanting to ban the death penalty.

This is not a post about the death penalty -- I think that it's good to know that if you're participating in organized religion, you should know what they're doing with your weekly offering plate donations.

1 The Catholics are considering taking the same stand. Right now they occasionally oppose the death penalty and think it should be use only in certain cases. You know, it is impossible for religious believers to stand up for what they believe in and remain totally apolitical. (though for what it is worth the Episcopals have a bad record of standing for anything, I think of them as Catholics who want a divorce)

2 Yes, I agree that it's utterly impossible to have solid religious beliefs and not have it show up as political beliefs. There's nothing at all wrong with that. I just like people to know where their church stands because many churches don't advertise their political positions.
