Evil Corporations and Trees

I thought all corporations were evil. I know I've read in various newspaper outlets and through education journals and websites that corporations are what's wrong with this country. I'm sure I've read environmental sites that describe corporations as the worst thing created on this earth since time began.

We're told that it's ok to regulate corporations because only with severe regulation can we control them and their evilness. We are told that we should sue corporations because they have lots of money, all of it ill-begotten.

And we're told most of all that corporations don't ever care about the environment at all. If we don't control corporations, they will strip the planet bare of everything but solid rock, so sayeth the environmentalists.

I find it very interesting the letter I got this week from Coca-Cola Corporation:

As a shareowner in The Coca-Cola Company, you currently receive your shareowner materials in the mail. Now, you can elect to receive your annual report on Form 10K and proxy electronically... As a thank you for helping the environment, The Coca-Cola Company will plant a tree on your behalf through America Forests, a leading U.S. conservation organization.

There's those evil corporations at it again, trying to reduce tree destructions by cutting down on use of paper, AND planting trees. Yup, end of the world these corporations are...

1 Corporations (private enterprizes) are the greatest threat to socialists. If the masses believe they are capable of achieving personal success without the guidance of the "enlightened leftist overseers", then what purpose does the left have for existence?

2 Successful corporations are the result of enormous risks taken by some people, which then pay off, rewarding them with great wealth. Socialists can't fathom a system where someone can be rewarded for successful decisions and actions made in the past. In fact, they don't even believe in giving people what the actually earn.

3 Well put, Hank AND Scriptor -- you're both RIGHT on.

4 I always wonder why left leaning people can not understand that I am a right wing environmentalist. It just blows their mind and why should it? I can not think of a better example of environmental derogation than China or the Soviet Union and they were communist. The answer to saving the environment is responsibility and accountability, not government control of the economy.

5 The answer is NEVER government.
