Government Subpoenas Taxpayers?

Interesting. Do you suppose that if you, as a taxpaying member of government, want to know where you tax dollars go, that you should be able to find out? How about if your agent, an elected government official, wants records regarding the expenditure of taxpayer dollars -- should they be able to get them? Further, what if that government agent is an AUDITOR, whose job it is to track government spending?

According to the attorney of one state representative Mary McAllister, Democrat from Fayetteville -- NO. Well, she doesn't want anyone seeing the records of HER special "nonprofit" -- that happens to give her a salary of $115,000 -- which was all taxpayer money.

In case you're having trouble connecting the dots, I'll spell it out for you. Lifetime House Representatives spend tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars campaigning for a job that pays less than $40,000. They they set up "non profits" around the state. Since the representatives set them up, the representatives are often listed as "board members" or "advisers." The non profits pay these top officials hundreds of thousands of dollars. And where do the non-profits get their money? From the legislature.

This concept used to be called money laundering, and it used to be illegal -- but I guess it's only illegal for those of us who are not the anointed legislative lords of North Carolina.
