How Representative is CAIR?

CAIR regularly claims to speak for all Muslims in America -- over 8 million of them, depending on who you ask. They claim vast political power and use their claims of 8 million Muslims to bully local, state, and federal governments into doing their bidding. They use their claims when they are offended to claim that 8 million people are offended. But how many Muslims really actually support CAIR?

FrontPage magazine outlines the various factual arguments that support the idea that there are instead only 1-2 million Muslims in America, not 8+ million. CAIR doesn't care. They need to claim large numbers, so they can bully governments and businesses.

Even more telling, look at the numbers when it comes to those who actually support CAIR:

# An inspection of CAIR’s most recent publicly available IRS Form 990 (2004) shows for that year they received $119,029 in membership dues for that year (line 3). But at $25 per membership (the current rate is $35), that would mean that in 2004, CAIR only had 4,761 dues-paying members – less than 5,000 members out of 8 million Muslims in America. This would mean that CAIR only represents 1 out of every 1,680 Muslims. Even if a lower 6 million Muslim population figure were assumed, CAIR would still only be able to claim representation for 1 out of every 1,260 Muslims for that year.

Less than 5,000 members. Using CAIR's own numbers, they only represent 0.0595% of American Muslims. CAIR represents the views of just 0.0015% of all Americans. Remember that next time you read a CAIR news release. They really don't matter.

1 the problem arises when you figure that those 4,761 (or most certainly some of that number) are willing to be violent toward the rest. these people are not to be trusted, and i would suspect that a much greater % of the Muslim population within the US are people willing to use violence to accomplish their goals. The poll in Canada last week showed about 13% of their Muslim population as willing to justify violence for political purposes... 13% of 2 million is roughly 250,000 people... and if the population is 8million Muslims, that means fully 1 million people... and i suspect that 13% is a low number for the US

2 13% may be a low number for the US, but 8 million is clearly a HIGH number for the US. Of course given that there might be still 1 million, 13% is still a large portion.

5 There is only about 1.2 million muslims in the America at last count, CAIR wishes there is 8 million.

6 Indeed, Raven, they WANT you to think there's many, many more members than there really are. And Angel, you're right. If the government would understand how FEW people they really represent, maybe the government would stand up to these terrorists. Amed, are you sure? I think next week, according to CAIR, there will be 8.5 or 9 million...

8 Yeah, if you're waiting for the Million Muslim Man March against terror, you are going to be waiting a VERY long time. As for the Saudis, I just mentioned that there were Muslims in America. I didn't mention what country they were a citizen of...

12 In certain towns, I'm sure you can be jailed for that one. At least it didn't have the "n-word" included -- then you'd be fined and jailed.
