Hurricane Recovery -- Want to Help?

As my regular readers know, I'm supporting Samaritan's Purse these days while trying to help those who are victims of the hurricane. I've been in contact with some folks at the organization to ask how people can help if they want to help in person, rather than just send money.

Here's what they're looking for now, if you want to help physically:

We are looking for volunteer teams of up to 15 people (age 18 and above) who are able to do manual labor in repairing homes, clearing trees, putting plastic on roofs, cleaning out homes that have been flooded, etc. If your team has tools, that would be wonderful, if not, we can supply the tools.

We are asking for teams, if possible, to come for a minimum of 3 days, but we are flexible if that length of time is not possible. Each team is responsible for getting to the disaster site that you would be assigned to, which would be either Mobile, AL or Biloxi, MS,. Once you are there, shelter (primitive) will be provided as well as meals.

You will need to bring your own bedding (air mattress, sleeping bag, cot, etc.), and your own towels, and personal effects. If you can put a team together, please let us know and we will send you a survey form to fill out and send back to us before we can schedule your team. If you aren't able to put a team together, we will be happy to add you to our "individual" volunteer list and possibly use you at a later date. We are currently using already existing teams
as our first responders.

So, if you're interested in helping in person, they'd like your help. Go here to signup.

1 Great find! I won't be able to go, but I hope a lot of people do.

2 And if you want to, you could even help organize a team to send, even if you can't go.
