I Want to Join the Bad Example Clan Because

My Mom always used to say to me, "If everyone else were jumping off a bridge, would you do it, too?" For many years, my answer was the same hang-dog expression, slouching of the shoulders, and shuffling away, mumbling, "No."

Then on day I got smart. After I started answering, "Well gee, if they're all jumping, they must be having fun, so I think I'd need to try it. Mom, you always tell me to try new things, right?" -- she stopped asking me that question.

So, when faced with the opportunity to join the Bad Example Clan, I figured since everyone else is doing it, it must be some kind of fun!

But first, let me tell you about how I found the Bad Example Family. Once upon a time, in a land far away...

oh wait, that's not it...
The first blog I ever discovered was Vox Popoli. On Vox's site, there was this huge list of sites under the heading "The Alliance." From there, I started reading some blogs, completely at random. Eventually I got around to even reading The Alliance's blog.

Somewhere along the line, I'm not sure from which place, I found Jeff at some long-forgotten blog (Au Fait), who wanted to be adopted by Harvey. Harvey even set up a poll to help him decide who to adopt. I recall voting repeatedly for the Inanimate Carbon Rod, but Jeff won, anyway.

By this time, I already had a blog. I think I had about 1 visitor, despite my awesome opening posts about how crappy the election choices were in Charlotte, NC. I'm not sure what I did to get Harvey to actually link to me, I suspect it was my awesome flash movies that were precision-guided humor assignments...

But by that time, I was visiting the Bad Example place regularly, which spawned me visiting people who commented there, which spread me out all over the whole Bad Example family. Now I was never a family member, because I really had a blog before I even found that messed up exciting, fun group, but I did end up getting listed as one of "Bad Example's Annoying Neighbors."

So now, the latest in blogorific entertainment will allow me to officially join the "clan." I'm not really sure this is a good idea, but as I started this post -- since everyone else is doing it, how can I go wrong? As part of the annoying initiation process, I have to do the following:

1) Post an entry on your blog titled, "I Want to Join the Bad Example Clan Because". The content of the entry is left to your discretion. It can be long or short, silly or serious. It's entirely up to you.

Check.

2) Get three members of the Bad Example Family (as listed on the official Bad Example Family Blogroll in my sidebar) to vouch for your character by linking your application post.

Well, I can't very well do that one until I've actually completed this post now, can I? I guess I'll wait and see if I can find some vouchers bloggers who might be nice about this whole silly thing...
