Tuesday evening the Mooresville Board of Commissioners refused to allow a man to build on his own property. Why? Because his plans did not "fit the adjoining neighborhood." Apparently the neighbors complained because the building he wanted to build would be too tall and would not look nice.

Hey idiots, if you don't want something built on a piece of land, YOU BUY THE DAMN LAND. It's not yours!

This building (which would have potentially brought in millions in tax dollars) was prevented from being built because someone else didn't like it's APPEARANCE -- not because it would emit noxious gases, not because it would impact traffic, not because the city couldn't run services to it, but ONLY because the neighbors didn't like it's outward appearance. The only reason there are supposed to be zoning laws is to prevent nuisances -- not appearances.

If I were the owner of the land who tried to build the hotel, my next move would be to start petitioning the town to condemn the land of all the homeowners who opposed him. All he'd have to do is get one of the oligarchy on his side and he could build his hotel on THEIR land, not his. What a screwed up country this has become.
