NC Legislature Done for the Year

Last week the North Carolina General Assembly finished their business for the year. That is, of course, unless they decide to hold a sudden, secret meeting to pass any legislation that needs to be passed secretly, as they did last year to slip the lottery through. The General Assembly is dominated and controlled by Democrats. They hold a majority in both chambers and if you dare disagree with them, you will be shunned, ignored, and attacked by them.

So, what accomplishments did the Democrats in the Legislature complete in this short, election year? Well, they started the session with $2 BILLION more of taxpayer money than they were supposed to have. In other words, the economy was so good in spite of the Democrats and their crushing of freedom, that we paid over $2 BILLION more than they expected.

So, what did they do? Hello? They're Democrats -- what do you THINK they did? They spent it. They spent every single dime of it. But oh, that wasn't enough, no! They also raised taxes on income and sales! They created brand-new taxes on things that had never been taxed before. They transferred money from the lottery to supplant previous expenditures from the general fund. They considered adding toll roads -- because they didn't spend any of that $2 Billion fixing the horrible roads we've got in North Carolina.

So, if you like higher taxes, more government, bigger government, less freedom, less control, more spending on education with zero results, and crappy roads, support your Democrat incumbent in the legislature at election time this fall -- that is, if you even have a choice on your ballot -- most districts do not.
