They are claiming they are meeting to "discuss ways to get a handle on North Carolina's transportation spending backlog." In reality, they're discussing how they want to spend your money. Seriously. They're not going to this meeting with the attitude of, "How can we Constitutionally serve the people of the state." They're going into it with the attitude of "We are the Supreme Rulers, what would We like to do today?"
Democrats have ruled North Carolina with an Iron Fist for over 100 years. That's not hyperbole, this state has literally been ruled by one party: Democrats. Now they're claiming they don't have enough money for roads -- but somehow they've managed to spend nearly $20 billion this year -- but couldn't find a measly $65 million for this year's roads. To put that in terms the working man can understand (which the Democrats do not): if you earn $40,000 per year, that would be like trying to find $130 to repair your car.
The only reason Democrats are selling this the way they are is to raise money. They are claiming they need "tens of billions" of dollars for roads. Of course, they don't tell you that the reason they need this money is because they've already spent the tens of billions that was raised FOR ROADS on museums and corporate welfare. And no, they will never, ever consider reducing ANYTHING in government (they are Democrats), so the only solution will be more money. The only issue remaining in the minds of the Democrats is whether they will raise income taxes, sales taxes, or use other smoke and mirrors to get more cash.
This is the clear result of one-party rule in North Carolina for a century. Perhaps it's time for a change.
