NC to Ban Light Bulbs

lightbulb.jpgI had heard the news on the radio, but I didn't believe it. I've heard the hype from around the planet -- but I thought, "That wouldn't happen here." I told someone about it, and they said, "Oh, that will never pass." Well, the time has come for absolute lunatics (aka Democrats) to do what they do -- ban the light bulb.

Yes, North Carolina Democrats have joined the total insanity that is the church of Algore. And this isn't just made-up stuff. I assure you, this is NOT satire. This IS real. This IS Democrats in the North Carolina General Assembly worshiping at the altar of total environmentalism and joining communist regimes around the world.

This IS mainstream DEMOCRAT Representative Harrison introducing HB 838: "AN ACT to prohibit the sale of general service incandescent lamps in the state." I thought, "That won't happen here." Well, it already has. The bill HAS BEEN FILED in the North Carolina General Assembly.

"Oh, that won't pass." Date: 3/15/07. Action: PASSED 1ST READING. Folks, the damn thing has already passed once. In North Carolina, a bill has to be read and passed 3 times to become law. It's already PASSED ONCE. The Democrats in North Carolina have ALREADY VOTED to ban light bulbs!

Oh, but it's even more stupid than that. To be "banned," it must meet the following criteria:

(1) A medium screw base.

(2) A wattage rating no less than 25 watts and no greater than 150 watts.

(3) A shape that is defined as A‑15, A‑19, A‑21, A‑23, A‑25, PS‑25, PS‑30, BT‑14.5, BT‑15, CP‑19, TB‑19, CA‑22, or equivalent shape by the American National Standard Institute standard for electric lamps C78.20‑2003 approved 30 October 2003.

(4) A bulb finish of frosted, clear, or soft white type.

So, if the base is changed, you can sell it all you want.

Even better -- they claim that the lights burn too hot -- so they're going to ban bulbs that are LESS than 150 watts! Guess what -- they make bulbs that are MORE THAN 150 watts! And when the poor can't buy 60-watt bulbs because they're banned and they can't afford the newer, more expensive, government-approved bulbs, know what they're going to buy and put in their lamps? Yup, 200-watt bulbs! This is really, really beyond stupid! What kind of total moron votes for a bill to ban light bulbs because they burn too hot, but doesn't ban the hottest bulbs of them all?

And note the shape limitation. Manufacturers who want to get past this new government ban simply have to make the bulb a slightly different shape that doesn't comply with ANSI standards. If they won't do it, you can bet I will. That's a gold mine waiting to be tapped there!

What total crapholes. I'm sorry for the language, but with all the problems facing government, to even believe that they are wasting time even thinking about banning the common light bulb really tells you volumes about the Democrats in North Carolina. And keep in mind -- THE BILL ALREADY PASSED ONCE.

2 I can believe that loony Democrats propose stupid stuff like this. But I still can't get over the fact the damn thing already passed one reading.

3 I will agree that incandescents are not the best. They put out a lot of heat, and use way more energy then compact florescent ones, which are what I tend to buy. They also last longer. But, whatever happened to freedom of choice? This is just another case of the Leftards looking to control everything. Three way CFL's are not cheap. Nor are basic CFL's. How soon till they ban other items that they deem bad for global warming as caused by Man? Of all the problems to deal with.... I have come to the conclusion that the whole global warming BS issue is looming large simply to cover up the fact that the Dems do not actually have any real plans that they want to share with people, such as raising taxes and abortion on demand. Nationally, it is a deflection from having no plans for victory in the war on terror and in Iraq, and to cover up them being just as bad ethically as the previous congress was.

4 It's the "in" thing right now. Look how much news coverage it's getting right now. It's all the rage -- even if it's completely made-up. And yes, this bill is supported by lighting manufacturers -- because they know people will be forced to buy the more expensive bulbs. You can bet there will be kickbacks, err...donations from lighting manufacturers to Democrats increasing.
