Yes, North Carolina Democrats have joined the total insanity that is the church of Algore. And this isn't just made-up stuff. I assure you, this is NOT satire. This IS real. This IS Democrats in the North Carolina General Assembly worshiping at the altar of total environmentalism and joining communist regimes around the world.
This IS mainstream DEMOCRAT Representative Harrison introducing HB 838: "AN ACT to prohibit the sale of general service incandescent lamps in the state." I thought, "That won't happen here." Well, it already has. The bill HAS BEEN FILED in the North Carolina General Assembly.
"Oh, that won't pass." Date: 3/15/07. Action: PASSED 1ST READING. Folks, the damn thing has already passed once. In North Carolina, a bill has to be read and passed 3 times to become law. It's already PASSED ONCE. The Democrats in North Carolina have ALREADY VOTED to ban light bulbs!
Oh, but it's even more stupid than that. To be "banned," it must meet the following criteria:
(1) A medium screw base.(2) A wattage rating no less than 25 watts and no greater than 150 watts.
(3) A shape that is defined as A‑15, A‑19, A‑21, A‑23, A‑25, PS‑25, PS‑30, BT‑14.5, BT‑15, CP‑19, TB‑19, CA‑22, or equivalent shape by the American National Standard Institute standard for electric lamps C78.20‑2003 approved 30 October 2003.
(4) A bulb finish of frosted, clear, or soft white type.
So, if the base is changed, you can sell it all you want.
Even better -- they claim that the lights burn too hot -- so they're going to ban bulbs that are LESS than 150 watts! Guess what -- they make bulbs that are MORE THAN 150 watts! And when the poor can't buy 60-watt bulbs because they're banned and they can't afford the newer, more expensive, government-approved bulbs, know what they're going to buy and put in their lamps? Yup, 200-watt bulbs! This is really, really beyond stupid! What kind of total moron votes for a bill to ban light bulbs because they burn too hot, but doesn't ban the hottest bulbs of them all?
And note the shape limitation. Manufacturers who want to get past this new government ban simply have to make the bulb a slightly different shape that doesn't comply with ANSI standards. If they won't do it, you can bet I will. That's a gold mine waiting to be tapped there!
What total crapholes. I'm sorry for the language, but with all the problems facing government, to even believe that they are wasting time even thinking about banning the common light bulb really tells you volumes about the Democrats in North Carolina. And keep in mind -- THE BILL ALREADY PASSED ONCE.
