The Telegram laments their lack of a dental school. Why do they "need" one? Because the closest one is just too far away -- and you see, it's just not fair that dentists tend to congregate where people are, the Telegram wants more dentists to work where there are no people.
The logical, sane person reading that might be thinking, "But wait -- if you put a dentist where there are not customers and people to actually PAY the dentist, how in the world is the dentist supposed to make a living?" The Telegram editors must have thought that too, for they provided a solution: get government to pay them!
No, really. There's not enough dentists in their small town, so they want the taxpayers of North Carolina to pay them to build a dental school where there's no demand for one, then get the working taxpayers to pay MORE money so they can have dentists getting paid and earning a living where they have no customers -- all run by the state, of course.
Folks, that's almost a textbook definition of socialism. The state decides who works where and decides what they get paid? What's next, the Telegram deciding who gets to be a dentist? I'm sure they'd like that power too -- no socialist refuses more power or money.
