Ogre Gets Mail from Allan LIan

And sometimes the mail is so entertaining, I feel the need to share it with you, my good readers. Here is what I found in my inbox from Allan Lian:

While you were too much of a little girl to allow responses to your post about dukes fixed payment plan i felt i should let you know in a private blog between you and myself....

I work for a call center that enrolls people in a fixed payment plan. Although i don't make any commission nor would i get anything extra for signing people up (as i don't directly work for a utility company). It is people like you that are completely closed off to what benefits such a program could offer. But alas, old ignorant fools like yourself decide its better to decry such a program because A) you fear change B) you find it MUCH easier to bitch about something rather than actually figure out how something may work for you. You make both example A, and B abundantly clear in your uninformed misguided bitching above. Maybe you should go back to churning your own butter like you did in your past as opposed to lashing out at something your obviously to slow to comprehend. OR you could just keep your mouth shut about something you have no interest in. It's not your fault you werent [sic] hugged enough as a child.

Isn't that rich? The post in question can be found here. Now Allan starts out with
While you were too much of a little girl

Sure, that's a good way to start a conversation with someone that you know nothing about. This post was clearly found with an internet search (it's not exactly on the front page of the blog), yet Allan feels the need to call names from the very first line. I shouldn't have even responded to such a juvenile name-calling email, but sometimes they can be entertaining. I guess I could say, Allan, "I know you are, but what am I?" At least then I'd be responding on your level with something you might understand.

Next I am treated with:

to allow responses to your post about dukes fixed payment plan

Again, Allan, you're making yourself look quite the fool. If you look at the post very closely, you might notice that there are already eleven comments posted. So your statement that I didn't allow commenting is factually completely wrong. It is true, however, that comments are closed on the post now. Why? Well, if you looked carefully at those comments that don't exist (at least in your mind) you might notice a date. The date of the last comment is Wednesday, Aug 10, 2005.

Again, since you appear to be rather uneducated, I'll help out. This year is 2006. The last comment was posted in 2005. Since today is August 9th, that means it was an entire YEAR since the last comment was posted. Since you're very unaware of how blogs work, I'll again help you out. Blogs that do not force you to create an account, log in, or enter a security code get spam -- lots and lots of spam. So it's very common for blogs to close comments after a certain amount of time. Feel free to comment on this post -- but realize that in a year (that would be 2007) comments are very likely to be closed. Also, feel free to stop by daily and read posts as I post them and comment on them when they're new!

Let's see, what's next?

I work for a call center that enrolls people in a fixed payment plan.

Well hooray. At least you're employed. Based on your first paragraph, I would have guessed that you were unemployable. Glad to hear that you do actually work.
Although i don't make any commission

I seriously doubt that based on your incredible defense of this scam program. But hey, whatever you say.
It is people like you that are completely closed off to what benefits such a program could offer.

Oh, pray tell, do explain the benefits! I eagerly read on in the email, hoping to hear the benefits. Alas, Allan does not explain them. So, let's go back to the original post -- oh I see -- just like I explained -- the benefits are that I get to pay MORE for my electricity. Sure, the power company gets more money, so THEY benefit. That IS the primary benefit of the program, after all.
But alas, old ignorant fools like yourself decide its better to decry such a program

Gee, I'm sorry. I really should stop taking care of myself. I should just let everyone else tell me what I should do with my money. I'm just old and ignorant and really don't have any right to inform others of scams that cost them money. Excuse me while I go apply to a federal program to get someone to change my diaper.
because A) you fear change

Okay, we're starting to get off the reservation here. I'm not sure how anything in that post implied that I was scared. Then again, since Allan claims I'm "old and ignorant," then perhaps I'm scared but I just don't know it. Yes, it's change -- and I don't like "change" WHEN IT COSTS ME MONEY!
B) you find it MUCH easier to bitch about something rather than actually figure out how something may work for you.

Actually, I did find a way for it to work for me -- but that was in the comments that you apparently missed. I offered to find these people who accept these deals and give them financial advice. See, then I could profit from them, too!
You make both example A, and B abundantly clear in your uninformed misguided bitching above.

I'm sorry that you don't like me pointing out financial scams. Perhaps you have money invested in Duke Power, Amway, or Herbalife. I simply pointed out that it is deceptive advertising and when you calculate the numbers, it would cost you MORE for this "limited time, special deal."
Maybe you should go back to churning your own butter like you did in your past as opposed to lashing out at something your obviously to slow to comprehend.

Again with the insults without any information. Apparently in Allan's world, if someone likes to NOT give Duke Power extra money, they should "churn their own butter." I'm not sure what butter has to do with electricity, but it's Allan's insane ranting, so butter it is. I wonder how much extra cash Allan gives to Duke Power for no reason.

As for comprehending, please do explain what part of this "great deal" I don't comprehend. The point of the post is that IT WILL COST ME MORE MONEY. Please explain how that is not the case (unless, of course, I do as some other commenters suggested and sign up, then waste energy at will).

OR you could just keep your mouth shut about something you have no interest in.

Well gee, Allan, you're right. If I see someone getting ripped off, I should just shut up. What's your view on state controls on interest rates, Allan? Do you think pyramid schemes should be legal because I have no interest in them? You don't like the facts about this information to be made public, apparently (again, suggesting that you do, indeed, make a profit on those who sign up) -- that's fine -- you keep telling people it will save them money, I'll keep giving them the truth: that it WILL cost them money.
It's not your fault you werent [sic] hugged enough as a child.

Ah, yet more insults.

Look, Allan Lian, you like this program that costs people money. That's fine. There's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't even call you names for supporting it. However, it is an absolute, irrefutable fact that the program would cost me money. If you disagree with that one, then you're not dealing with reality, plain and simple.

I like people giving me money, too. However, I'm not going to going to try and sell them on something that's not entirely truthful to get them to give me money. You go ahead and support Duke Power and this plan, I'll continue explaining the details to people.

3 He works in a call center and insults your intelligence? That is beautiful. Is it Friday already?

4 I people that know what they think. That totaly leaves out Allan.

5 I'm not sure about Allan's personal skills, AOW, but he's certainly expressing something here, isn't he? And good point, Tomslick! But no, it's not even silly Friday yet! Thanks for stopping by, everyone.

7 That has to be the most entertaining post I've read in ages! Luckily, I moved my coffee mug back a foot after I read the first couple of lines. Being a Duke customer, I know exactly where you're coming from, Ogre. Alan Lian must have long ago "sold his soul to the Company Store". The most recent "great deal" I've seen from them is similar to the one in your old post, except they hedge their bets: They take a fixed rate out for 11 months, so you can more easily "plan it into your budget", then in the 12th month, they "settle up", collecting the balance of what you owe them that's above what you paid in "fixed rates". Not only do they enjoy higher fiscal profits, but since the offer will have it's greatest response almost immediately, that 12th month will bring them one large, simultaneous infusion of cash.

8 Dang. I guess too many people were doing as suggested in the comments of the previous post -- sign up and use as much energy as possible, then "un" sign up.

9 Don't yah just love these people who come along and leave nasty emails and comments, when they don't know YOU, haven't read your site before in an effort to get to know YOU...who make assumptions and behave like little kids? Well, no, little kids have more sense than Alan. Very entertaining Ogre. LOL. If you get enough of these dumbass emails or comments, you should do a post like this every week..to share with us just how DUMB some people really are.

12 Allan can't seem to post comments, so here is the comment he sent me in email: ok so first of all we will have YOU explain your ignorance...please tell myself and all your friends checking your blog every 4 seconds what formula duke power uses to come to these "fixed bill" amounts? (please no superlatives, or clever comments, just tell us how) since you know so much about how it screws people over. Then tell me if it is so true that it is an "absolute, irrefutable fact" that the program would cost you money, tell me how that is a fact when YOU get to decide how much power you use? isn't that kinda like giving someone a credit card and telling them that no matter what is spent on the card they only have to pay certain set amount? (insert your b.s. rhetoric point avoiding b.s. here)

13 It's not "ignorance" Allan, it's facts. How can I claim the program will cost me money? Simple -- $2,400 is a bigger number than $1,920. And unless I drastically change my usage habits (as suggested by some in the previous post), that's the costs. I don't care how Duke Power arrived at the $2,400 number -- it makes no difference. They will get MORE money than they would otherwise. That's what the numbers show. It may, as you suggest, allow me to use more power if I decide to be wasteful and do thinks like run space heaters in the rooms while leaving the central AC at 60 degrees -- but if I continue my normal usage, I will use $1,920 worth of electricity and will pay $2,400. That costs me money.

14 Ogre - you could have just stated that the burden of proof lies with the accuser. That's the foundation of any sane, rational argument. Only those weak and inarticulate debaters rely on crass assumptions and canard to 'prove' their points.

15 I considered that, but I was trying to be nice.
