1775-2007
It was good while it lasted. Too bad it's over.
Every great country must come to an end. In man's history, the average age of a great civilization is about 200 years. America made it a bit longer, but now it's time has come as well.
Now I don't mean to say that overnight the place will suddenly cease to exist. However, the America that was created over 200 years ago is completely gone now. It's been on a decline for some time, and this really is it. I remember well the celebrations of 1976 (though I was quite young) -- and I would be willing to be there will be no celebration in 2076. The country has died.
I do not write this lightly, nor without great thought. I do not write this with joy or sarcasm. I write this, fervently believing that it is true, despite the rejections and declarations of many.
There were brief rays of hope that paused the decline of freedom and liberty. Ronald Reagan, from 1980-1988 worked hard and tirelessly to stop oppression and really gave hope to a lot of people. He renewed faith in America and in it's people. But that was just an upward blip on the steady decline of the country. Under the leadership of Newt Gingrich, there was another upward tick for just a short time in 1994. This blip was smaller than the 80s, and shorter. But with the passage of global amnesty, the decline is complete. There is no hope for America.
Now I'm not saying I'm hopeless. I'm not feeling personally bad. But there is no hope for America today. America was built on a strong Christian work ethic. America was a great country once. It was built on rugged individualism -- people worked hard and knew hard work would be rewarded. America was truly a shining light on a hill -- a beacon of freedom around the world. America defeated Communism. America defeated Hitler and Nazi Germany when they wanted to rule the world. America had a real identity, and the whole world knew it. But that is to be no more.
America was founded as a Representative Republic. It was a nation of laws. It was a government "for the people" and "by the people." But it is no longer. The vast majority of Americans are strongly opposed to the actions of the Senate -- but the Senators simply don't care. The Senate is an elite group that does not care about people, only about themselves and expanding their personal government. Laws used to apply to everyone equally. No longer. A close look at the bill that passed the Senate shows that the government will apply laws as they see fit to whomever and whenever the current government office holders decide. Justice is no longer blind.
America was based on freedom. People were free to associate with one another. People were free to worship as they saw fit. People were free to elect representatives -- and remove them when they saw fit. But this is no longer the case. Government, through unelected bureaucrats, micromanages every single aspect of everyone's life. Go ahead, try and associate with people who the government doesn't like -- you can and will be arrested. You will be declared a "domestic terrorist" if you dare disagree with the government. And if you mention the Bible and attempt to tell people about your religion at the wrong time, you will be arrested and charged with a hate crime. Just try and elect someone else if you don't like it -- here in North Carolina, you can only be elected if the current officeholders permit you to be. There are no free and fair elections.
America used to be the biggest economic engine in the world. That engine was based on the free market and free enterprise. No longer is this the case. Go ahead, try and do anything related to economics without asking government permission. Create something in your garage and attempt to trade it to someone else who wants it -- if you do, you will be breaking "the law." Government today, and more so with the current "immigration" bill, picks the winners and losers economically. Government gives taxpayer money to businesses they like and withholds it from businesses they don't. Government regulations are used to protect big money donor businesses from competition from start-ups.
America had a national identity. Everyone in the world knew that. Americans worked hard. Americans spoke English. Americans had unalienable rights that government could not take away. Americans were different and unique. No longer is that the case. With this bill, as many as 150 million new "citizens" will be created, citizens that care nothing for the rich history of the country called "The United States of America." This will completely and forever alter the landscape and culture of this country.
America was indeed a great country. It gave freedom and capitalism a chance -- and it worked for a short time. But today it's gone. There is no economic freedom. There is no representation. There is only oppressive government that is continuing to get more oppressive. I am sure many will disagree with me. A majority of people will continue going about their life, not knowing anything has changed -- and not caring. As long as little Johnny gets to soccer practice on time, all is well in the world.
Some will notice and will continue to fight. That is good. However, these fighters really are now Don Quixotes. It has ended. Good, right, and freedom simply cannot win by staying within the bounds of the current system. I know, for I have battled long and hard to fix the system. It's not going to happen. Freedom will no longer appear in this country -- not as long as the current system of government reins.
America is dead. It will just take people some time to notice.
I started this blog years ago with the hope of advancing freedom. I honestly believed that I could help promote freedom inside the current system. I really believed that the current system was broken, but that it could be fixed. I thought I could work within the system and help repair it. I was wrong.
This system of government is literally beyond repair. Go ahead, continue working within the system -- but do not expect to actually make a difference. America the free simply does not exist any more, no matter how you might feel. That will likely offend some people. I'm sorry that the truth offends you.
I'm not giving up -- far from it. I am, however, very tired. I'm tired of fighting around every turn. I'm tired of battling every single day to try and convince people to allow me to have my own freedom. I'm so tired of trying to get people elected that simply become part of the system. I'm tired of beating my head against the wall, knowing that while I might get one small victory for freedom; ten other losses happened at the same time. I am giving up on the current system. Freedom simply cannot win any more.
I will continue to fight for freedom -- but only from outside the system. It does no good to attempt to obey laws when they will be applied only arbitrarily. Of what value is it to play by the rules when the rules can and are changed on the whim of an unelected government bureaucrat who is only concerned with power and control and "doing their job?" What benefit is there to voting for the lesser of two evils when one choice is 100% anti-freedom and the other option is 98% anti-freedom?
America, you were indeed a great country. You had rich traditions, a wonderful culture, and truly showed the world that freedom is a great thing. I can only hope that in my lifetime a place will arise where freedom will once again be welcome. However, the last time the battle for freedom took about 25,000 lives -- about 1% of the population. 1% of the current population of the United States is 3,000,000.
I would like to say that it hasn't reached that point, but it already has. The only question remaining is how long people will continue to reject freedom. Once people decide they want freedom again, unfortunately, it will only be regained with bloodshed.
America, Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. R.I.P.
