School Safety

The White is doing it. The North Carolina governor is jumping on board. Everyone wants to know what is to be done about school violence.

Here's an idea -- let's ban weapons in schools. That way those evil people who are committing these crimes will obey the law and not attack anyone in the schools. It's a perfect system! Everyone knows that criminals who are willing to murder people and kill themselves ALWAYS obey the law when they do so, right?

Morons.

I predict they will come up with plans for "stiffer penalties" for those who bring weapons to schools. They'll need more money, of course, to implement these ideas. NC might decide that they need an extra billion or five to put metal detectors in every school. Maybe they'll hire one extra policeman to peek into cars in the parking lots. And, after spending more money than most people will ever see in their entire lives, nothing will change.

If you want a serious change, stop creating an area where crime is encouraged. Stop creating a zone where criminals know there's not one thing even resembling a weapon. Stop disarming law-abiding people who might be able to stop these crimes. Get rid of the moronic federal "gun-free school zone" laws that I routinely violate. Allow people who AREN'T killing others to defend themselves and others.

Or, you could take the simple approach and simply get government the hell out of the education business. Remember the massive investigation of the mining industry when a few people died? There's no one to investigate the government when they have a monopoly on an industry (education).
