I understand the "post-9/11" world, but this is absolutely INSANE. Felonies are serious crimes. You do hard time in a prison for committing a felony. A felony stays with you for the rest of your life. You cannot own a gun in some places. You cannot vote and cannot own land in other places. Felonies are supposed to be for very serious crimes -- not senior pranks.
Those who support the stupid charges claim that because the alarm clocks had duct tape on them, the police thought they were bombs. That's fine, let them think that. Then, as soon as the bomb-sniffing dogs came in and they noticed the clocks were in the shape of butterflies and houses, they should have laughed instead of going nuts.
Should the kids be punished? Sure! Let them wash police cars and fire trucks for a couple weeks. But charge them with felonies, lock them away for years, and ban then from graduation? That's total an utter insanity. And no, it doesn't matter that they might get a "suspended sentence" or other light punishment -- they've been charged with felonies, and that should be reserved for SERIOUS crimes, not just senior pranks. This is just so wrong.
