Sue Myrick at the NCCLC Dinner

suemyrick1.jpgAfter Senator Allen finished speaking, he left. Then those who had not gotten dinner yet were served. This made for rather odd tables because those at our table figured we were just out of luck and we were eating the bread and our desserts. But, we got food finally and were treated to the honor of hearing Sue Myrick, Congresswoman from the 9th district of North Carolina speak.

Sue Myrick was more focused on North Carolina. She has been in politics for many years now, but she somehow manages to (most of the time) remember that she's there to represent voters. Heck, I know her chief of staff, Hal, and he's been with her for 12 years now. That's impressive.

Sue was not running for president, so she didn't need to impress the people at the conference. She was focused. She had ONE topic, and I think she knew it was one that a lot of people at the conference were interested in: illegal immigration.
Congresswoman Myrick started out by stating what seems so obvious to conservatives, but absolutely baffles those on the left:

Illegal immigration is just that: ILLEGAL

As you might imagine by now, that drew quite the applause. She also gave some concrete examples of how illegal immigration is costing us a lot of money. She was talking with someone from a nursing home and when they were done talking, the woman thanked the Congresswoman for her stand on illegal immigration. Sue was confused and asked why.

The woman explained that at her one facility, she had 5 illegal immigrations who were basically vegetables due to actions and choices of their own. It was costing the taxpayers of North Carolina $100,000 per year for the medical care of those people.

Did you know that in California, YOUR tax dollars are used to teach in 83 different languages?

Sue Myrick also believed that we need to secure the border. However, she described ideas that she supports to secure it. She supported and worked for the bill that would put the military on the border, hire a LOT more agents, and build a 700-mile fence.

She told the truth -- that the Senate's version of the bill was a guest worker program, and that version will never make it through the House if she has anything to say about it (Note: This also drew a lot of applause and the Senator had long ago left, so he did not hear this part).

I am very much against Amnesty.

She also supports a law that will say that if you're caught DUI and you're not a citizen, you are deported -- no extra chances, no help, you're gone.

She wants an immigration court in North Carolina -- since 60% of the cases filed in the Atlanta court are from North Carolina. She wants an immigration office in North Carolina. She wants a federal detention center in North Carolina so the local system is not so clogged with illegals.

She also sponsored a bill called

The 10K Run for the Border Act

(Note: This one REALLY got a lot of applause, even before she explained it!)

This would increase the fine for hiring illegals from $250 to $10,000 per illegal knowingly hired. (Note: Again, HUGE applause). Then, it would sent 80% of that fine collected (from the company who hired the illegal) to THE ARRESTING AGENCY! Imagine that! It's like a bounty on finding companies who hire illegals! (Note: Again, HUGE applause).

She also support the "True ID Act." This law would stop all federal highway funds for any state that doesn't stop giving away driver's licenses. And yes, this would stop funds to North Carolina if governor Easley doesn't fix the screwed up laws.

We've got to wake up. We've got to see what's happening

The night was ended with a VERY moving singing of "God Bless America," again sung by Debra (whose last name I did not get). Thank you, Debra, that was really wonderful.
