The Jenna Six

Can anyone explain what the heck is going on in Jena today? Here's the facts as I have been able to find them:

1. Some kids put up a few tiny nooses on a tree.

No crime was committed, according to the law, and the students who put up the nooses were punished and suspended for two days.

2. "Racial" tensions flared and there were fights and burnings (wait, was Mohammed offended?).

One student punched another student and was charged with battery and was suspended.

3. In apparent "retaliation," a group of 6 kids ganged up on, beat up, and stomped on another kid. Those 6 were charged with battery. One of those 6 had a prior criminal record and was charged as an adult.

I'm really not quite sure what everyone's complaining about.

1 Im not 100% on this Ogre but i think the issue was some of the 6 kids were charged with attempted murder which seemed extreme. Also, I think people felt the penalty for the nooses was to easy. Which honestly I agree with, nooses have some pretty serious implications. I believe that the nooses were in retaliation to a group of black kids sitting under the tree at lunch, which had previously been understood as a place for white kids only.

2 But according to the law there was nothing the noose hangers could be charged with. You may not like the law but it is the law. The noose hangers should have obviously been expelled but the proper response to what happened should not have been a 6 on 1 beating.

3 I'm not fully up on this, either, but, from what I heard, said tree was for anyone, black or white, but someone decided to be an a**hole and put those nooses up there. Which, while plain nasty, is not against the law. From there it escalated to where 6 kids beat the ever loving crap out of another, stomping his head and stuff when he was down. By La. State law, if someone is charged with attempted murder, they are to be tried, by law, mind you, as an adult. Sounds a lot different when we drop the races out of it, doesn't it? Instead, somehow the same old race baiters are making it seem as if the 6 black guys, some with criminal records already, who nearly killed a white guy, are the good guys, and the white kid, who was nearly killed, is the bad guy. Jesse Jackson logic.

5 Reverse the races of the attackers and the victim and tell me what sort of response this incident would have garnered. That will put the motivations of the "protestors" into sharp relief.

6 Indeed -- there was no law broken with the nooses. The DA looked and could not find any legal violation. It's sort of hard to charge someone with a crime that doesn't exist. And Brain, at first, the kids were charged with attempted murder, but it was later reduced to battery. As for the "whites only" tree -- there really isn't such a place in America today, legally.
