Too Many Posts?

So, I'll ask you folks, my good readers, for input on a question I have.

I know many people blog different ways and for different reasons. I just realized that I've gone over 1,000 posts on this blog, and that's only since moving to mu.nu -- about 7 months. I'm not really sure if that's a lot or a little -- and I'll leave calculating the averages to other math folks.

I used to have a schedule of featured items each day -- Homespun bloggers, Christian Views, etc. However, most of those have gone away. So I try to make 4-6 posts a day. I always start out the morning with NC politics and government -- because that's where I am, and I want to give others information about that subject.

The rest of the day is a grab bag. But I try to get some varied topics up and always try for at least one silly post a day -- if you can't laugh, what's the point?

So the question is -- do you think there's too many posts here each day? I know the real answer is to do whatever I want because it's my blog, but I'm wondering -- are there so many posts that you, the good reader, cannot read them all?

I try to post them throughout the day, so each time you visit (as long as it's been a couple hours), there will be new content. Fresh and new, right? But is that too much? Do you come and read everything since the last time you read? Do you look for my "regular" topics?

What do you think?

1 You post enough to keep me entertained and that can be hard.

2 I usually try to make 3 posts a day m-f. If there is a really long one, then I may only do two, if they are all relatively short, I may do more. How many times I come here depends on what my day is like, not when or how much you post. It is dictated by my time. If I only have time to hit you once, then I come once and read back to the last time I was here, if I come here multiple times then I may re-read comments if there are no new posts I care to read. Yes, I admit I don't read every post.

3 I think you are doing good at this volume. I can't say I read every post. I read the ones that interest me most. I do see a lot of similarities in the NC and PA govts. I may not pay special attention to the details of the NC posts, but it does give me things to look for here in PA. I don't think you post too much. It would be worse if you posted too little. I check out some blogs by some good people, but they post maybe only 3 articles a week (if that). Althought the material is very good, the comments section is dead. In my humble opinion, your biggest asset is the non PC stories you opine on that the MSM won't touch. I check on those the most and to see if there are replies to my goofy assed comments. Keep on keeping on. You are kicking some ass here.

4 I try to read just about everything you write!

5 YOU know the answer I have. No amount of posts are too many; you do post on a regular basis and that helps many people I think...I like how you organize it too...certain things for different times of the day and then, certain things for each day. A MODEL BLOGGER you are Ogre.

6 You're doing a lot better than I am. I have two recurring posts every day (since switching from Chambers to Spurgeon), but have a hard time finding time to post on other things. I don't get the time to read through all your posts. I look over the headlines and maybe the first few sentences in the RSS reader. I usually don't get much further in the North Carolina politics posts because I'm not from NC (and Minnesota has it's own problems). I give every post a chance though. Between you, Vox Day, Flannel Avenger, Shanktified, and The Blogger Blaster, I can't find the time to read everything, but I enjoy what I can read. That said, I say keep it up or do more if you can. I may skip a few posts that don't ring my bell, but others will read, and some may skip the posts I like to read. To each his own. Posting on what YOU are interested in is what blogging is about.

7 Thanks for all the kind words, folks! You are certainly validating what I thought I was doing. I try to keep enough posts on enough varied topics that most who stop by will find something that will please them. And I'm not really trying to be everything to everyone, my interests are just that varied! And don't forget -- if you ever want to see just the summaries of that day, over there on the left, at the top, there's a link to "Today's Posts." Just click that and the list of posts from today will show up with the one-line or so summary about it!

8 You should write however many times it takes to say what you want said. Don't worry about who's reading them - it's worth it if it starts one person thinking.

9 And that is one thing I do want to do here -- get people thinking.

10 For those of us who get a minimal number of visitors a day to our sites, it's moot. If you wanted to post pictures of the inside of a llama's nostril on your site, you could get away with it. Why? Everything else here is really smart. I say, continue what you're doing.

11 Thanks, Stevin -- for the complement and the idea. I did just get 2 new camera lens and need to try them out...and they're serious ZOOM lenses...now to find a llama...

15 Ogre, my friend... I know the feeling - evaluating yourself, whether or not your posts are good, whether or not they're pleasing everybody in your core readership, whether you post too often or too little, blah, blah, blah. Sometimes you've just gotta step back and take a look at what you've got and how you got there. In other words, you've got one of the TOP BLOGS IN THE WORLD, BUB! lol. Do I agree with everything you write, or even read everything you write? Obviously NOT. But why do I come here despite some of the differences in the way you and I see things? Because you are a great writer, you have a great blog, and you aren't just a standard "party-line hack" for the Republican Party who mirrors what all the other "righty bloggers" are posting about and from that same point of view. Ya rawk, dood. And one_day I fully intend to down some beers with ya ;-) Blog ON, and keep on keepin' on. You're doing great, bro!

16 Thank you both! Angel, I do apologize, my reading of other blogs is WAY down this month and last month. I'm working extra hours at work at a location with no internet access, so my goofing off time is rather limited. I should be back to reading much more often next month. And GTL, indeed, we have GOT to have that beer together!

17 I don't know about too many posts, but then again I average around 5 a day or so on my own blog. Write for yourself and the people will come.
