Voter's Speakeasy?

PROJECT VOTE SMART BLOG NOW LIVE

OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE VOTERÂ’S SPEAKEASY

Great Divide Ranch, MT—In a day and age where voters are being bombarded by distortions of political information at an alarming rate, Project Vote Smart is proud to announce the latest addition to the Voter’s Self-Defense System: “The Voter’s Speakeasy.”

The VoterÂ’s Speakeasy (http://www.votesmart.org/blog) is a blog that will serve as a forum for discussion of political information contained within the database that the Project has compiled over the past sixteen years. This information will include voting records, speeches, campaign finance information and interest group ratings among other topics. It will serve to provide historical context that is necessary to understand the importance of the events of today.

All too often in politics, the message that is most easily understood is the message that is remembered by the voter. That is why mudslinging between politicians is so successful. The issues that our country faces are more complex than this. It is our hope at Project Vote Smart that we will be able to make these issues clearer for the voting public, so they will be able to drown out the non-sense that comes out of political campaigns today.

Project Vote Smart hopes that The VoterÂ’s Speakeasy will serve as another resource to members of the media. It will join the ranks of other components of the ReporterÂ’s Resource Center such as The ReporterÂ’s Source Book, the VoterÂ’s Self-Defense Manual and our VoterÂ’s Hotline (1-888-VOTE-SMART).

Project Vote Smart is a national research organization founded by national leaders such as Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, John McCain and Geraldine Ferraro. It is funded entirely through foundation grants and the individual contributions of 45,000 members.
