Whites Only

Have you seen the barbershop sign for "Whites Only?"

whites.jpgIt's out in front of Herbert Leger's barbershop in Lafayette, LA. And someone saw it and was "appalled."

When asked about it, Herbert explained the obvious -- "I don't have the training, I don't have the experience, I don't have the knowledge and the technique used in cutting black people's hair."

In fact, "when a customer walks in he can't help, he sends him to his barber friend across the street." I wonder how long before the NAACP demands that Herbert cut black people's hair (badly).

When the NAACP finally realizes (6 months and 2 "rallys" later) that Herb doesn't know HOW to cut black people's hair, I'm sure the ACLU will get involved to ensure taxpayers pay to teach Herb how to cut black hair.

3 I somehow knew that Don King was going to get into this discussion... And Contagion, did you like the backwards "s" on the sign?

4 He doesn't want his customers to leave looking worse than when they came in, and that's bad how? If he were doing it for racist reasons, as is implied, he wouldn't be referring them to a friend.

5 It's competely honest, but there's some people who are just "horrified" by the sign itself.

6 Perhaps a simple Please would make things better?

7 Looking at the condition of that sign, I'm not sure that he's got enough more letters to spell "Please..."

8 Back in my hippy days, I was refused service by a barber because he said he "didn't know how to cut long hair". Fair enough.

9 Did you scream "racist" and sue them? I'm sure the ACLU would have helped you.
