Massachusetts' New Plan
So, what are the plans for the state of Massachusetts?
Raise taxes and ignore the law. Well, you folks in MA did elect a Democrat, what did you think you were going to get?
Well, you have a choice -- at least so far. You can leave. The most effective way to protest and abusive government, short of armed revolution, is to vote with your feet. If you honestly seek freedom (economic and personal), consider moving just a short distance away -- to New Hampshire. But don't bring your liberal socialism with you.

NC Fishing Piers
Ready for the latest made-up crisis by your socialist pals at the Charlotte Observer? It's "
vanishing fishing piers." And yes, since it's the socialist Observer, the solution is MORE government spending. But taking a closer look shows that once again, the problem (if it indeed exists) IS GOVERNMENT! Government is the CAUSE of the problem, NOT the solution.
Now the premise of the entire complaint is faulty -- that piers disappearing is a bad thing that government must solve. If piers disappear, so what? The Observer whines that people will not be able to get fish for food. I'm sure government will give them piles of food and cash because that's what government does. Instead, let the free market take care of things! If piers cost money, they won't exist. Why is that a bad thing? To say it is implies that commercial businesses LOSING money is a good thing. Well, to socialists, that's likely true.
Beyond that, it's worse! Why are the piers suddenly losing money and closing? Because GOVERNMENT! Government has raised taxes and fees. Government has raised the amount they charge piers for licenses to allow individuals to fish on them. They're shutting down because GOVERNMENT has run them out of business!
Those of you who want to save the piers, don't go to government for the solution -- THEY CAUSED THE PROBLEM.

NC Board of Elections Determines Results
And that's the board of elections (D) determining the results of election, no matter what the voters might have wanted.
This time, a candidate for election was asking for the state board to consider her questions about the election. However, since the person was a Republican, the board of elections (D) had absolutely no desire to hear anything -- they wanted to declare the Democrat the winner despite any evidence that might, well, do anything.
This is the state of elections in North Carolina. Democrats say and do quite literally anything, including openly breaking the law or defying the votes of people. They will retain power in North Carolina, no matter the cost to justice or the political system.
This time they are openly saying that they are not interested in anything that might show crimes were committed during the election -- they don't care, they will appoint Democrats to win any election. The only reason Republicans hold any elected offices is because the Democrats will give a few seats away (as long as they stay in the majority) to make it look like it's not a completely crooked system without any semblance of fairness.

Fair Taxes
by Jonathan of Publius Rendezvous
I came across this article several weeks ago from one of my favorite columnists. Professor Williams has a very succinct way of conveying complicated topics and themes. If you are not a regular reader of his, you should at least check out his regular column at Townhall.
In this piece, Professor Williams tackles the Fair Tax, and as we would hope he describes some of the highlights and benefits that would be reaped upon its passage.

Easley wants MASSIVE tax increases
Governor Easley (who may or may not be running for president or senator in 200

has
given his support to THREE massive tax increases. He supports increasing the state personal income tax by 0.5% (from 7.75% to 8.25%). He also supports increasing the state sales tax by 0.5% to ensure that NC's state sales tax will stay the highest in the southeast.
At the same time, while he open lies claims he wants to "reduce" one tax, that tax is the "earned income tax." But, of course, if you "decrease" that tax, what actually happens is that the people who work are forced to work MORE to give away more cash to those who do not work. So if you work, work harder because in 2007 the state will be taking a LOT more money from you.
Democrats at work, watch your wallet.

Freedom in your Lifetime
Can you even imagine that idea? Wherever you live in the entire world, how free do you really believe you are? Seriously. How much freedom do you really, honestly have? And are you working now to try and change that? Perhaps you've sent money to pro-freedom candidates. Perhaps you've wanted to support Libertarian candidates, but were afraid they wouldn't win. Maybe you're working now to make sure that in 2008 your favorite freedom people will win your local elections. And how's that working out for you?
In most places (NC not included), there's some hope for freedom. You know that if you keep working where you are, little by little you may be able to advance freedom. But how many really believe that you're going to succeed in the next 2, 5, or even 20 years? Take a look at your local elected officials and state legislature. How long is it going to take to change a majority of them to pro-freedom? Is that in your lifetime?
Instead, how would you like to have freedom right now. More freedom than you've ever had before. And how would you like to have hundreds, even thousands, of people living near you that all strongly support freedom, too? Can you imagine a few hundred people working together to increase freedom and reduce government? And right now, in your lifetime?
That's the goal of the Free State Project. Over 400 people have already moved and are already having a HUGE effect on politics. And that's just 400 people. Imagine what a few more hundred would do. And imagine how free you can be when thousands gather, all in the name of freedom. It is possible, and it is possible right now.
They are still gathering signatures on a petition, hoping to get 1,000 people committed right now to move for freedom. Here's what it says:
I will move to New Hampshire by 12/31/2008 where I will work to bring about a society in which governmentÂ’s maximum role is protecting life, liberty, and property but only if 999 other liberty minded individuals will too.
Just imagine 999 others moving with you for freedom. With just 400 people scattered across the state, freedom is already advancing. Just imagine what will happen when that number is tripled, then multiplied by 10.
Consider it a moment, if you will. And if you're thinking that New Hampshire is not for you because you don't like it, three points to further consider:
1. 101 Reasons to Move to NH.
2. What sacrifices are truly worth having actual freedom in your lifetime.
3. That's where freedom really is advancing. If you want freedom, that's where you need to go.
If you would consider it, please see the Free State Project site for more information and do consider signing the First 1000 pledge -- we're trying to get 1,000 people to agree to move by the end of the year (no, you don't have to move in the next two weeks, just agree that you will make every possible attempt to move in 200

The only way New Hampshire will ever be a free state is to burn it down and start over without one of the current residents present. One rotten apple left in the basket will rot the next bushel. Insanity (aka BDS) in uncurable and the state is ate up with it.

We still have majority rule here (despite the Constitional provisions against it). If enough people who want freedom move to one place (NH), they CAN vote in freedom without total destruction. Sure, there will be opposition, but such is the price of freedom.
Posted by: Ogre at December 19, 2006 08:33 PM (oifEm)

Ogre writes more about NH than I do and I live here. WE NEED people to come up here who cherish true freedom- we've been invaded by liberals from MA who got sick of paying income taxes and sales taxes..so they're still liberal as heck and want that nanny state thing.
SO MOVE ON UP HERE. It's not a bad place to live. I wouldn't live anywhere else (except Maine)...

Political Idea
So, I've got an idea for a slight change to the political system in America.
Anyone -- an individual, corporation, non-profit group, or employee of any of the above; if they receive direct cash or direct benefits from the government, including cash, vouchers, grants, tax incentives, etc; automatically loses the right to vote. After all, anyone who receives anything directly from government has a vested interest in taking more, so they should not be able to vote.
Do you think anyone would be left in the country that would be eligible to vote?

Good idea. But there's only one problem.
Those who possess the greatest power to address a societal problem are almost always the same group of people who have the most to lose by actually addressing the problem. Government beneficiaries are an important voting block.
This rule can be applied to almost any problem that lasts any significant length of time. Problems that don't adhere to this rule tend to be solved very quickly.
Posted by: Weapon of Mass Disturbance at December 19, 2006 02:49 PM (j4p/t)

In my plan, that would be your option (I like freedom). If you choose to take the deduction, you give up your vote. If you want to vote, don't take the deduction.
And don't worry, if this were the case, taxes would drop like a rock because the scummy politicians couldn't buy ANY votes with taxpayer cash!

I have been receiving grants for education, as well as (of course) my tax refund every year, so does that count?
Posted by: Smokey at December 19, 2006 04:50 PM (xBtls)

Tax refund doesn't count, as that's an overpayment on your part, not a government expenditure.
The education grant? Yup, you're out.
Posted by: Ogre at December 19, 2006 04:55 PM (oifEm)
7
The school loan thing would depend on the loan really. Because I received student "loans" during school but I had to pay them back, and yes I did pay them back 100% plus interest.
But I would be excluded because I receive unemployment payments ... but does it really count if you are receiving payments from something you paid into all your life?
Posted by: Quality Weenie at December 19, 2006 05:38 PM (BksWB)
8
Loans are different. They would not cause you to lost your voting rights. Grants would. Unemployment payments? If that system were entirely privatized so that the government wasn't getting cash from it, that would be okay. As it stands, the government pays out that cash, so you'd have a very, very strong incentive to vote for politicians who could buy your vote with more cash, so I'd have to say no on that one.
(Hey, it's my dream!)

City of Charlotte Lies Again
For some reason, I'm just not surprised. Are you? It is a government agency, and it's ruled by Democrats, so I guess we should be surprised if they actually told the truth. This time, they're
preparing their whines complaints Christmas List "legislative requests" for the General Assembly. Are you ready?
They want
extra taxes or fees to raise money for road projects, its highest priority
That's an outright lie. Complete and total, blatant lie. Here, let's try and experiment. What is your personal highest priority when it comes to spending money? Think about it a minute, then answer.
Now, is that what you spend the most money on? Then it's simply NOT your highest priority. For most of us, the single largest expense for us is our home. That's what most important to us, so we spend the most money on it. And if you're short on cash, do you skip the house payment or going out?
So, what is the city spending money on? Arenas, stadiums, parks, baseball stadiums, light rail, buses, welfare, and free health care. They seriously have absolutely ZERO interest in roads. They honestly DISLIKE roads! Part of their grand plan is to allow the roads to deteriorate so that you will not use them -- instead you will submit to their soviet-style planning and live in high rises on their grand light rail.
Liars, the lot of them.

People of NC: Hold Your Wallet
Well, that is, if you actually work. If you do not work, rejoice! If you are a slug who lives off the backs of others (you take government cash payouts), celebrate your horribleness. Enjoy being lazy and know that you will be rewarded soon! You see, the government of North Carolina
is preparing to give away even MORE cash to lazy, worthless, non-working people!
Yes, in this year when all predictions and estimates show that the state will have nowhere near enough money the next year due to vast overspending by Democrats, they are really going to give away even MORE money! And where will they get it? The same place Democrats ALWAYS get money to give away and spend: by stealing it from those who actually work and produce (unlike them).
So get ready, North Carolina. There will be an income tax increase, many property tax increases, and sales tax increases. But I guess you get what you vote for, don't you? Keep on voting Democrat if you don't like keeping the money you earn.

Doctors need government watching
So
says the Charlotte Observer. Their latest hit piece demands, wait for it, more money to be spent by government. It's pretty much their standard editorial. I think they have a Word template that looks something like this:
*** Start Template
_____________________ (insert scary thing here) is getting worse! More and more participants in this activity might possible get hurt. In fact, if you even so much as talk to these people, you might get hurt or even killed. Currently, the government is (not/lightly/somewhat) regulating this industry. But (hundreds/thousands/billions) of people could be saved from potential injury and death if there were more regulation. The ___________ (make up new, cool sounding name) commission, formed by Democrats, has suggested that there should be more oversight and regulation for safety.
(Note: leave out all references to freedom of choice and all references to any costs associated with enormous government monitoring of things which free people should be allowed to do).
*** End Template
And it doesn't even have to make sense to make it into print. This complaint is that doctors aren't regulated and therefore people shouldn't trust them. I guess the Observer missed the latest survey on who they trust with ethics and honesty the most -- for Doctors, 69% of people thought they were very highly trusted. Journalists? Only 26% thought they were highly ethical.

A better solution would be to stop allowing hospitals to treat new doctors as a source of cheap labor. Doctors often begin their careers working absurdly long hours for very little money. This creates a situation where the least experienced doctors are required to make complex medical decisions on very little sleep. This is an enormous source of malpractice suits.
Posted by: Weapon of Mass Disturbance at December 17, 2006 03:42 PM (j4p/t)
2
Instead, I'd like to see freedom. Let the doctors and the hospitals do as they like. If the doctors don't want to work long hours, let them find a hospital that offers them that. But that would require freedom and LESS government, so that's not going to happen, is it?

Blonde: Hi, good afternoon, this is Martha, I can't print. Every time I try, it says 'Can't find printer'. I've even lifted the printer and placed it in front of the monitor, but the computer still says he can't find it..
Blonde: I have problems printing in red...
Tech support: Do you have a color printer?
Blonde: Aaaah....................thank you.
Tech support: What's on your monitor now, ma'am?
Blonde: A teddy bear my boyfriend bought for me at the 7-11.
Tech support: How may I help you?
Blonde: I'm writing my first e-mail.
Tech support: OK, and what seems to be the problem?
Blonde: Well, I have the letter 'a' in the address, but how do I get the circle around it?
Tech support: Your password is the small letter "a" as in apple, a capital letter V as n Victor, the number 7.
Blonde: Is that 7 in capital letters?

I work in tech support. One day I got a call from this guy who was trying to install Quicken. He said that he had put the floppy in the disc drive and nothing happened. This was in the days when Quicken was on floppy and you had 7 disc's to load. He had jammed all 7 in one after the other on top of each other and had ruined his floppy drive.

also, why is it that every 3rd caller has their smoke alarm beeping every 30 seconds??? is there a shortage of 9v batteries?

"The green light is flashing."

And my smoke alarm used to beep -- until I ripped the damn thing out of the ceiling because it wouldn't shut up. No it's very quiet.

Thank you very much! And you're in the Triad? I'm not sure that you'll be able to afford a beer after you start paying taxes there, but thanks very much for the offer. If I'm ever headed that way, I'll drop you a line!

yeah near high point, the taxes aren't all that bad, i mean i get about $90 per check taken out for state taxes, but what gets me is the asinine gas taxes (a full 14 cents above SC) and the liquor laws... i mean who ever heard of a state run liquor industry... WTF is that nonsense... but I'm loving the weather, i hear all my Florida friends complaining that its cold when its 60 down there and i just laugh at em
Posted by: chris at December 17, 2006 05:58 PM (rBjHa)

And strangely enough, that is the #1 reason people will put up with this abusive government in NC: the weather! The state runs the liquor industry for one reason -- the same reason they do everything they do in this state: for cash to spend.

well coming from a state where tourism tax was the main income, this is definitely a little different. one thing i haven't figured out is that i get hit with different % sales taxes on different items... its like a 1st grader laid out the tax system
Posted by: chris at December 17, 2006 09:40 PM (rBjHa)

Don't try and figure it out -- it's going to change this year when the Democrats raise taxes by another billion. Current word is that sales taxes will rise by 1/2% to 7.5 and 8 percent, depending on where you live.

I used to do level 1 support in college part time. My favorite is:
User: "when I press the power key nothing happens. [Sound of clicking button] See!"
Me: "Ma'am, have you checked the power cord?"
User: "Ohhhhhh, yeah... the cord was unplugged"

Ah yes, the true classic. It's absolutely amazing how many people never check the power cords!

Bill of Rights Day
Happy Bill of Rights Day! Thanks to a reminder from
Always on Watch, I remembered! Today is a day set aside by the government to remember the Bill of Rights. For more details, check out AOW's link above -- there's also a link there to area celebrations, so check that out.
Unfortunately, I think Bill of Rights day has become more of an day to honor something that has passed, rather than celebrating what we have. Indeed, I'm not saying that this country isn't the freest in the world, just that we lose more and more freedoms every day and very, very few people seem to care.
Another thing that isn't taught any more in government schools -- the government doesn't GRANT rights. They're not capable of it. Instead, the Bill of Rights was intended as a specific list of rights that the government was to never, ever, trample upon. However, today, I think every single one of the original bill of rights has been violated by our government, including all three branches in cooperation.
If you do truly love the Bill of Rights, there is but one possible solution today that will allow YOU to live in a place of freedom. There is a very small, but growing, group of people who honestly love freedom. They want to claim a small area of the country and make it as the founders intended. They don't want socialism or communism as today's governments want. They want open, unrestrained freedom. They want government to do as it should in a free society: as little as possible. Who are they?
They are The Free State Project. And they need you, if you want real freedom, to join them. And if you're really, really serious about freedom, join them in the First 1000 pledge -- trying to find simply 1,000 people who will agree to move and work for freedom in our lifetime -- but only if 999 others will join them.
Celebrate the Bill of Rights -- by restoring those rights to the people where they belong.

The Bill of Rights isn't dead. It's just dying a slow death because the 'rights' have been spread to criminals that slip across the border, and the enemy that will eventually kill millions of Americans.
Liberalism will be the death of the country, and the death will include the same liberals that will not protect America and American citizens.
A United States Congressman called Miami, Fl a third world country. What do the people of Miami do? They prove him 100% correct. I now look at Miami as a worse place for freedom of speach than Iran, Syria and Russia and will never visit the state of Fl again. Wall the state off and drop a nuke inside the wall. I won't miss the state at all.
Thank the liberals (aka democrats) for the destruction of freedom in America.

You speak as if this destruction will happen in the future. I am afraid that it is not the case -- I think the destruction has already happened and that freedom and the Bill of Rights are already gone today. They only apply to those whom the government favors now, instead of all free citizens.

Well, since the vast majority of Americans neither understand exactly what the Bill of Rights says and/or the purpose behind the Amendments, particularly the first 10, I would have to agree with you, Ogre.
And the same people I described pick and choose what they like, and modify them.
Sad, when you think about it.

Why Freedom is Lost Today
Overheard this morning:
I was late today because of all the fog. It's because we don't have lights. We should have lights on all our highways. Why don't they build lights when they build all these roads.
And this is in an area where we might get 3-5 days in an entire year with enough fog to actually affect visibility -- and 100 days with enough rain to make streetlights reflect on the blacktop and make visibility worse.
But yet there are way too many people who honestly believe "They" -- the government, via massive, heavy taxes, should do everything for everyone. That just stinks.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom and responsibility.

Just watch Osama Hussien Obama's first presidential campaign AD and you'll see a big problem. In one ad he proposes spending the entire GNP of the country on entirely give away programs, not just the taxes collected by the feds. The bad thing about the ad is that the mental retards (aka democrats) of the country will believe he can do it and stand around with their hands out for a handout.

And they will think he is wonderful for stealing money from one person and giving it to them.

Who does Government Love?
It's Friday, so I thought I'd have some funnies. Then I read the cartoon and the text that follows (that I received in email from
VW Bug and was disappointed at the true content. Ah well, the truth is painful sometimes:

5 million of our older Americans have not signed up yet for their
Medicare, Part D, drug plan------they are old and confused.
We are NOT going to grant them an extension.
However, 12 million illegal aliens are in our country and we are
going to allow them to stay, protest, procreate, receive support
monies, attend schools, avoid paying income taxes, have our
teachers take 300 hours of ESL(English as a Second Language)
training at our expense, etc.
WE MUST REALLY DISLIKE OUR OLD PEOPLE......
OR WE MUST REALLY LOVE TACOS!!!
Don't forget to pay your taxes......
12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!

I like tacos.
LOL!!!
There is a sad truth to this though. Our elderly are treated far worse than illegals- who have their hands held at every corner. It sucks. It really does.

NC Seeks Billions to Give Away
The NC Legislature is already working on a $1 billion tax raise for 2007. Since the legislature is ruled by corrupt leftist Democrats, they will likely pass a tax increase of more than $1 billion next year. But they've just now
discovered that they really need an additional $24 billion to cover "future health care expenses for retired state employees."
What another load of crap. WHY are there hundreds of thousands of state employees? Why do they get ANYTHING when they retire, much less full health benefits? Sorry, state employees, your jobs should NOT be better than the private sector. In a free country, the state would not EVER compete with the private sector. It's just wrong.
But no, North Carolina is run by Democrats. They have absolutely no problem taking more and more and more from anyone who works and give it to someone who does not. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.
